I submitted an inquiry on their website Monday 7/7 and got no response, so I called on Tuesday 7/8 and left a message with my email and phone number and also stated I submitted the inquiry online. When I still did not get a response I sent an email on Wednesday 7/9 to the email on the website (RENTALS@SIMPLEADVENTURES.NET) with the inquiry. After all of my attempts I still have yet to receive a return call or email. Needless to say I am disappointed in this company, and they lost out on 5 kayak rentals next weekend!

Well we got there early and once it became our start time, noone was there. I ended up calling them to make sure someone was coming, and I was able to get a hold of a staff member who said they would be there in a couple of minutes. Well that turned into about 15 minutes later. Once the staff member came, they got the kayak on the water, showed us how to get in and gave us life jackets. The actually kayaking was nice and the weather was good that day. Basically two ways you can kayak through a nature area or by some huge lake houses. Both are obviously beautiful choices. So overall, it was a decent adventure but just did not like the fact they were late in getting things started.

If you are renting paddle boards and don't have the correct equipment to make it enjoyable and physically comfortable for all customers then you should not rent them.

Lake Huron sounded cool so we found Happy Dog on the internet/went to their website and read the description that they are at Lakeside Beach in Port Huron on Sundays- this is on their website-- "Staffed on the weekends 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM weather permitting". Well, it was a beautiful day, very little wind, very little waves. But, just to be sure, I called them also- no one answered however there was a message-- the message very clearly described that they are staffed at Lakeside Beach on Sundays including today. So, we drove all the way to Port Huron, paid $20 to get into the park and went up to this trailer that said "Happy Dog Paddle Sports" on the side and there was no one there and all of the stuff was locked up. I went to the park staff and they said "oh, we don't know about that" but they were nice and called their mgmt and also called Happy Dog for us and no one answers and the message still says they are staffed there today. Happy Dog Paddle Sports are liars and ruined my day and wasted my $20 and that is what happened.

The whole experience was super well organized -- from booking to check-in, everything ran smoothly and on time. Huge shoutout to Brad, who led our tour. He struck that perfect balance between being friendly, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. You could tell he genuinely enjoys what he does -- he shared fun bits of Detroit history and local trivia as we paddled, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and included no matter their experience level. A few of us were total beginners, and he made it easy (and fun) to get the hang of it. The route itself was beautiful -- great views of the skyline, calm water, and just enough challenge to keep things interesting. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and light activity, and a really unique way to see the city from a new angle. Detroit River Sports offers several options to accommodate small groups and individuals.They provide all equipment needed for the tour. The guided tour is about 2hours. The staff are fantastic and very informative. I'm not an expert kayaker but was able to easily navigate the waters. The Detroit River is a bit challenging to navigate due to the current, but the guides are there to help if needed. I learned a lot along the way as we stopped periodically to learn some history about Detroit and the homes we encountered on the canals. I had a blast and want to buy my own kayak!

Brian and his staff are fully knowledgeable in the discipline, and will only ever offer solid advice. Service after the sale is the final reason I buy here. BUY LOCAL! My personal tips: spring for the custom length paddle unless you truly need the adjustability. Always get a cover for transporting your board, and, if possible, one for your paddle. You'll need them. Be sure and add a rubber flex fin to your purchase at some point, because paddling Michigan rivers is awesome! Also, a set of locking straps, for peace of mind while you hike, etc.
