I asked, what are you going to be doing different, and they said nothing and that I'll only have to come in twice a month for the next 9 months for 15 minutes of work. like that's a bonus! I went to this location to see what is going on with the pain I am having. I had 1 xray and a conversation with a MONEY GRABBING OWNER! Here is it Monday after and they took $75.00 out of my account without authorization and for something that is covered by my insurance. I was told by the Owner that my insurance covers xray and when I called about the withdraw I was told it was for xray. I demanded my money back and was told someone would call me back. WATCH YOUR ACCOUNT PEOPLE! I have filed a complaint with Medicade and the State of Michigan on this issue, they need investigated! I will follow up if they return my money. read more

Update on review Been fighting with this office to refund the money they kept. (Which should have been refunded automatically when I stopped going there) apparently they cut me a check and sent it in the mail. Never got it! I continuously had to call and try and get my money. after going in last week they promised they'd cut me a check on the spot and they'd call me Saturday. Received free first visit/consultation coupon in mail ( there was disclaimer in small print that if I had insurance I'd have to pay copay. First visit no adjustment, just X-rays. Second visit told I had to pay $70 for first visit, based on my insurance. Takes to room where I'm told diagnosis at it will take over 30 visits at 3 a week, I can get a nominal discount if I pay up front- I say no. Them I'm told I need to commit to this 3x a week treatment, I tell them I'm not comfortable committing to this and would prefer to pay as you go. Then they tell me if I don't commit they cant treat me. So my free coupon has so far cost me $70 and who knows how much they are going to charge me for today when I still didn't get a treatment. Went in for a massage & initial chiropractic evaluation. Stephanie was my massage therapist & I was so impressed with her knowledge & skill. She totally picked out the areas that were bothering me & gave them attention to relieve the muscle tensions. I'll be planning to go back monthly for regular massages. The office is very high energy. All of the staff are very friendly & helpful. Everyone seems to sincerely enjoy their work. The primary Doctor, Dr. Amanda Apfelblat, was who I had my initial appointment with. I have some twist to my spine that they're working to correct with adjustments & traction. Dr. Apfelblat is a ball of positive energy! She explained the x-ray findings in detail, and then went over the treatment plan. We're into 2 weeks (of 5) and I can feel the adjustments moving the spine back into alignment. I went for my new patient appointment this morning, waited over 20 minutes to be taken back to a room, after getting there 10 minutes early to fill out paperwork. Dr. was thorough with exam but their policy is to take 7 xrays. I've never heard of a patient needing 7 xrays. They also do not do adjustments on your first visit. That's the point of going to a chiropractor but I guess they do things differently. Appointment times are slim pickings. Good luck getting a time that fits your schedule! This office took advantage of me at my lowest point. A bone in my lower back had turned oddly and that back pain led to excruciating pain in my left hip all the way to my knee. They had me coming in three times a week, seeing different doctors every time, but they all did the exact same process. After a month of this, I still couldn't stand for more than 20 minutes at a time, and I had to tell them to start using drop weight treatment during my adjustments. Only after they began doing that did my hip begin to improve. I was on short term disability during all of this, and Dr. Nelson lied to me saying that I had to come in every day that they were open in order to continue to qualify for my FMLA. I naively believed him at first but when I did call to check they told me that was not the case at all. His lies coerced me into making over 15 appointments which, since my deductible was yet to be exhausted, cost $54 each. Then, once I knew I could return to work, I cancelled all but the last appointment so as to get the return to work stuff finalized, Dr. Nelson refused to speak with me. Wonder why? Also, never in the 2 months that I was there nearly every day did I meet the famous Dr. Apfelblat whose commercials at our local theater have made something of a local celebrity. She sure wanted my money though. The moment I stopped coming in they began taking me for over $200 a week despite my request to make a more reasonable payment plan. Only after taking over $400 without permission which they refused to refund did they agree to stop making automatic deductions from the account on file. These people are charlatans and just give the same "adjustments" to everyone by rote, regardless of their ailment. They also charge extra for the traction which they usher everyone into by default without mentioning it costs extra. read more

The staff here are amazing. Beautiful people all around. Such great energy in this office. I really look forward to my visits here as I feel amazing afterwards. After just a few visits my lower back pain has vanished and I feel so much better all around. Range of motion in my neck has also greatly improved. I have been going here for a few months since my girlfriend recommended it. Dr. Amanda Apfelblat, is the head doctor. She is gentle, energetic, and knowledgeable. When I met her, I noticed something. She was super nice. Like, hug at the end of appointment nice. Like, this doc is gonna maybe try to sell me some magic back beans, nice! I came to the conclusion though that she is just down right, well, a nice doc! I've never gotten any up-sell speeches from any staff. Though Dr. Apfelblat is the head doctor, by no means are the other doctors less qualified! In fact, they are all great. They listen to my needs and always make me feel better. Usually each appointment for an adjustment only takes a few minutes. My mother timed 7 minutes from me walking in the building to leaving. Some days are a bit busier, but not often. The office staff are fast with scheduling and flexible with payments. (Sallie Mae, you could learn a thing from them!) Oh and VERY important to mention, the place is accessible for wheelchairs. The doors and clinics maybe a little narrow for power chairs, but manual ones are cool for sure and they offer electronic chiropractic tables if you have trouble getting on regular exam tables, like me. They also offer wonderful massage. The rooms and hallways there are manual chair accessible but, the massage table are not electronically powered to tilt. Just normal, non-magical tables. I know one other reviewer had issues with the staff and that shocked the hell out of me because everyone there has treated me like I have been coming there for years! read more

I have been going to see Dr. Apfelblat at Michigan Chiropractic Specialist for about 3 years. I first went for severe hip pain. It was painful to sit, stand, and sleep. Since getting my adjustments, that severe pain has never returned. Everyone is friendly and I love that Dr. Apfelblat remembers detail about your personal life and always gives you a hug by at the end of the visit. Set up a new patient appointment the appointment was at 3:00pm and I got there at 2.50 to fill out new paperwork got done in ten minutes and then waited, and waited and waited. 8 people can and left two of them their appointment weren't till later yet still went in front of me. Decided to leave after waiting 50mins no thanks you my time is worth more. They signed me up for 24 visits and wanted me to pre-pay up front for all my co-pays, that's even with :excellent" health insurance to the tune of $820.00! To their credit they did refund my money. I have been going to this office for about 8 months. It is efficiently and professionally run. You are greeted with a warm smile and a hello by the whole staff. Your wait to see the doctor is always short (never been more then 15 minutes). The relief I get from the treatment great. As far as a massage all I can say is awesome. I came to this office with long term back issues. Unfortunately the Dr. or should I say not the owner Amanda with whom my appt. was made but rather an assistant of hers. He didn't listen when I explained to him why my specific case wasn't being improved but worsened with each adjustment.... However this review is not being written because I think Chiropractics is a joke...it is being written because of my AWFUL experience with there customer service from there office manager Rachel. Her lack of professionalism was just one of the many reasons I will choose to NEVER recommend this "business" to a friend. A real business would care about keeping there clients happy. The only positive I can attribute to Michigan Chiropractic Specialists is a friendly staff, albeit facetious. While the staff and doctors are friendly, this is more like a fast food joint than a doctor's office. They schedule multiple people at a single time slot and spend a mere 5minutes or less with each. For some that may be great, but I prefer doctors who care about my health, not my money. Also, expect to see MANY different doctors or even have one of them train while you're there- while the staff stayed the same, doctors seemed to have a high turnover rate. If you're concerned about your health, I wouldn't choose Michigan Chiropractor Specialists. For example: I came in one day with a bad kink in my neck (I probably slept funny) and I informed Dr. Apfelblat (specifically). She proceeded to perform her normal adjustment and send me to cervical traction (to essentially stretch my neck joints). I left in pain and woke up in more pain. When I called, they took this as an opportunity to get me back into the office more frequently (when she instigated the problem!!) It wasn't until I saw one of the MCS doctors other than Dr. A that I learned there was another way to adjust my neck that would cause less trauma and that I could refrain from traction while healing. The staff STRONGLY urges you to pay for your first two months of services (or in my case co-pays) upfront. (Around $560 for me) When I came to Dr. Apfelblat for chiropractic services I was informed I needed adjustment and traction FOUR times a WEEK so my body could adjust. After that month I was reduced to 3 times a week. I'm in my mid twenties with minor scoliosis, but nothing major. I've spoken with friends since who've been to highly regarded Chiropractors who they saw twice a week initially and once a week, or less, after. I was paying $80 a week for copays (that's $320 first month and $60/$240 after) until I ran out of allotted visits after two months! Not surprising as I likely could have visited once a week for a whole YEAR at that rate. How nice of them to offer me a reduced rate of $30 a visit when they'd previously received $20 from me and another $120 from my insurance. $360/month for voluntary chiropractic services is no bargain. Not only that, but I had to stop going when my father lost his job (as I'm unemployed) and we could no longer afford services. I informed the staff this upon leaving. I expected the monthly bills I received, considering I was now being charged $360 a month and the $560 I originally paid had long been exhausted. What I don't expect was the $5.00 late payment fee I was charged each month. I have never paid a late fee to a legitimate doctor's office. NEVER. On top of that, I was never informed that this would be a charge I would encounter. Needless to say, I plan on making a more thorough report to the BBB or whoever this "Doctor's" office I responsible to. You've been warned. read more

I hate this place 1st when you go they know your in pain and treat you great! Ha after a few sessions, they treat you differently I am still in pain after having to stop going because some person I never met came in and without a word started working on me she hurt me so bad I started crying like a baby, I wanted my mommy and I'm a grown woman! The recipientiness ne are so nice and offer you treats but with that being all well and all. I'm upset with the actual care. You met Dr.aplablast and her staff but you don't get good service. Then after you tell them your situation financial that is, all that wonderful treatment walks out the door with the great service! They're all about money! I had to file bankruptcy because they sued me for 300 dollars and added all these fees and ran the bill up to almost 700.00 and won cause they all work together the court system and them! They repo my raggedy little van on Friday evening after everything closes and lie and say you can get it back just make payment arrangements now my bill is over 3000.00 I'm like Whoa money hungry and yet I'm still in pain and now without a vehicle to get my kids to school and to top it off they claimed my can was abandoned on the side of the rode now I probably owe even more money! I went here in the past and had a good experience. I recently returned and it was completely different. My initial consultation started out with one chiropractor and switched to another after x-rays with no explanation. The initial chiropractor questioned if I could even stand up for X-rays I was in so much pain but I said I would get through it. Despite knowing I was in pain., they had a trainee watching (never asked for my permission) and took an extremely long time. After a different doctor came in to go over my X-rays they recommended 12 sessions in four weeks. They wanted me to pay all 12 co-pays up front. When I refused, the office person became very rude. They eventually agreed to charge it as I received the treatment when I stated I would contact my insurance company. On my way out, in front of the waiting room, Dr. Apfelbat (who owns the clinic) confronted me. Despite my having received treatment there with no issues in the past she stated "it is a red flag when a patient threatens to call an insurance company." I felt verbally attacked. I will never return. I have filed a complaint with my insurance company who agreed that a doctor absolutely should not charge for treatment you have not yet received. read more

An individual is nothing more than billable body parts here at this practice; like the diagram that one would see at a butcher shop of a pig or a cow and the different cuts of meat. I have been receiving chiropractic care for years now, I know the benefits of good chiropractic care and I am so glad that this was not my first introduction to chiropractic care because I might be like all the other chiropractor haters out there. I have been treated in Texas and Utah and never experienced anything like what I did today. First of all they wanted my bank card information written down on paper to keep on file. Really, what idiot would consent to that and is that even legal? Maybe in Michigan it is, I don't know but really, write down your card #, the 3 digits on back...no. They became frustrated with me when I refused to write it down and said that they would put it directly into the system just in-case I ever no-showed for an appointment they would charge my card $25.00. I am getting ahead of myself, let's go back to when I was told on the phone, before even coming into this office, that I would receive a free initial consult and then a decision would be made between me and the Dr. as to the types of treatment that I might need and I was told that I would pay according to the decision made. I simply needed an adjustment, I had a pinched nerve in my lower back and was in extreme pain. I have just moved to Michigan and probably pinched something in the move. Now in the past I would just go in for maintenance adjustments and the chiropractor seeing me would simply "adjust" me (from hip to back to neck, that is an adjustment)...Here they wanted to charge me for each section, from my neck to my lower back and before that, charge for each x-rayed section, so for each section, a different charge (hence the pig and cow analogy) and of course right off the bat don't you know, the area where I was hurting would require 2 x-rays. So they are only treating part of your symptoms, not the whole problem, and charging you for what decent chiropractors just consider part of the visit. I have never, ever, seen chiropractic care handled in this way. I tried to help them to see things from my point of view, how ridiculous this whole process of treatment looked to me by using this example...I go into a department store, pick out a dress, head for the check out but then a sales lady informs me that the sleeves to that dress are going to cost extra if I want to walk out of the store with the whole dress. My experience in the past has been,(as a new patient or after an accident) you go in, x-rays were part of the "free initial consult", after x-rays you sit with the Dr. and you were shown where your problem areas were in your spine, which was evident in the x-ray's. You go over cost, and were then treated with special attention given to the troubled areas. You were fully adjusted (per visit) for one cost unless you needed other types of therapy if your problem areas were really bad. After your body understood how the spine was really supposed to line up then maintenance visits would occur as needed. Not going too far in between maintenance visits was recommended. I left the office without being adjusted, I could not believe what I was hearing in this office and maybe that is how most Chiropractors practice here because one place that I called wanted nearly $200 up front for x-rays before even seeing the doctor; after dropping $200 you are probably going to pay for the "more" that is then presented by the Dr. This way of practicing is truly a disgrace to the field of chiropractic care; this is not a "wellness" type of practice but a greedy bunch of insurance scam artists. read more
