We came here for the winter light festival. I've never been here before and really did not know what to expect. I was a little worried when you first showed up and traffic was backed up onto the road. What I didn't realize is that we were routed through the parking lot to the speedway across the street before even making it over to the speedway. The line moved pretty slow and I just wasn't sure how this was going to work. But once we got to the entrance, It was super easy to pay as a few lanes were open. Once we paid we were able to easily get into line and start driving through the speedway. It was really nice that they were places where you could pull off if you needed to change drivers or you just wanted a break from the congestion. read more

Wicked hot this year but a good race. Not a bad view in the house. Pros: they allow soft sided coolers that fit under the seat to save money so you don't have to get their expensive food and drinks. Available clean restrooms. Medical crew appeared to be responding appropriately and quickly to issues from the heat. Michigan State Police move the traffic well once you reach the roadways. Cons: Parking. Even VIP parking was a mess all letters and numbers parked everywhere and no attendant to ask. On property departure. Horrible. No direction just every man and vehicle for themselves. This mess also blocked the trams so no one was moving. You would think after decades of large events they would have it down perfect. Customer service. Blah. I know it was hot but a lot of the event staff didn't seem happy. No race radio. No I don't want to reserve it online. I want to walk up and rent one like in the past. You can do better MIS. I wish I could write a better review for this place. We had tickets to the NASCAR race that I won from work, and the whole day was much more difficult than it needed to be. The weather was suspect with rain looming, so it was unsure if the race would go on. The communication from race officials was very unclear. When they were deciding, we were outside the gate. We were getting mixed messages at every single gate, getting sent from one place to the next, sometimes on paths we weren't supposed to be on. We missed the beginning of the race and all that fanfare because of the confusion and indecision. The parking is a nightmare. We definitely got our steps in that day with how inefficiently everything was laid out. The worst part was the point of sale system for the stadium vendors. The wait for very VERY simple food was, I am not joking, more than two hours. The line wouldn't move, the attendants were inept on a level I've never seen, and the payment process wasn't working. Part of my group split off, walking more than a mile to an alternate vendor, and by the time we came back the others were nowhere near close to ordering. Horrendous customer service aside, we had a nice time at the race. Lots of work to do for MIS. read more

Have been going to MIS for 30 years. This years experience with the new on line tickets was a nightmare!! No printing of tickets anymore. Do you know how many seniors are unable to do this process - they are the mainstay of this sport. Going to loose a lot of attendance. All info given by calling MIS was wrong. Nothing worked. Said phone lines open 24 - 7. WAS NOT!! Ticket booths were unable to solve problems plus WAY Too far apart. One booth sent you to the other one only to have to wait all over again,. MIS info booths should have been by the ticket area as that was where all the problems and questions were not being answered. HELP areas were not visable. After all these years, this terrible experience may just end our attending another race. JMG read more

I've been here numerous times for NASCAR races, since 2010. I've sat in many different sections, I've experienced a great view from everywhere. Free parking. The fan-zone is huge. Plenty of merchandise and activities. The food is a little expensive but it's delicious. They're very fan friendly here at MIS. Plus, the cars are fast at this track! I love the area. It just wasn't great. Really looked forward to it little bit of rain you can't help but once it rains, you can't get near the concession stand and it was pretty uncomfortable to be there. Besides the campground and the miles away parking the outside didn't seem to have enough action like other tracks. read more

It's my 100th review and at the recommendation of Tom F., I'm going to review something quintessentially American, so what better than Michigan International Speedway? Fast cars with a heavy dose of wrecks, shirtless men, bikini-clad women, cigarettes and beer have made going to MIS a one-of-a-kind experience, particularly during the Nascar Sprint Cup races in June and August. The little town of Brooklyn, Michigan in an area known as the "Irish Hills" sees the influx of nearly 200,000 people who litter roads with empty beer cans and half-eaten hot dogs. Some people, looking to capitalize on empty returnables, set up targets on their front lawns for fans to hit as they drive by leaving and entering the speedway. I have found races to be a perfect way to practice tailgating for the upcoming football season as well. Most fans get out to the raceway early in the morning, set up a radio, some chairs and a grill all the while swigging back beers of the Budweiser or Busch variety. And there's nothing quite like seeing row after row of American trucks, vans and cars lined up in the parking lots. I don't recommend driving a foreign vehicle to the race, especially if you plan on tailgating near thousands of people. Trust me, MIS is a gem. It's a staple of my Michigan summers along with going up North and golfing. Just don't forget the sunscreen, those grandstands get toasty. Even if you don't care for Nascar, you'll never forget a race here. You can even bring a cooler of beer into the speedway. Yes, I repeat, you can BYOB! Soak up America in the form of Nascar at MIS. read more

Made it to the Michigan International Speedway....it is massive. It is located in Brooklyn, Michigan, about an hour outside of Detroit. It took us a little over an hour to get here. Parking is free with a tram to transport you to the race track. Michigan International Speedway is NASCAR's fastest track and it is the love of racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike. Let's Go Daddy!!!!! Come on DANICA..she was 8th for a spell..., but finished 18th. Only a couple of cautions and some minor crashes... Another great win for Jeff....way to go Jeff. MIS is bigger than I remembered it to be. It's a pretty decent track, definitely looks to be a much older one. The parking situation is kind of weird. There are small tables and benches in the middle of the parking lot... in case you need to take a break from walking to the entrance? I guess I shouldn't complain, because after all, it was free. If you come here on a poor weather day, you're just kind of screwed. The fields of grass quickly turn into nasty swampiness, and the gravel paths become a game trying to dodge all the puddles/ponds that have quickly formed. There really isn't anywhere to hide from unexpected hail pelting your face. The bathrooms are nasty. I absolutely despise public restrooms, and it's places like this that remind me why. I've been to heavily trafficked speedways like Fontana's Auto Club Speedway, Indianapolis, Charlotte, and Darlington, and none of them had bathrooms quite as disgusting as this. Food is expensive, but that was kind of expected. 4 bucks for a plain ol' hot dog just doesn't feel right though. read more

Took my husband here today for the extreme experience, look them up on the internet, this company has luxury cars you can choose from and than drive a car around the track 3 times. This company gives you a class, and you can choose to buy the usb that has your ride video on it. It was a great time and this company is so professional, the teachers and the instructor was so nice my husband was able to go 140 in a Lamborghini huracan. read more

MIS is an excellent experience for race fans. The volunteers and workers around the track are cheerful and very helpful. This is my third year at the track and they continue to make improvements to the facilities every year. They have been very sensitive to the economy and offer low price tickets in general admission. Children are free in GA and half off in other seating. read more

We recently went here for a nascar race and it rained quite a bit. I could not believe that as big as mis is that they didn't have a bad weather plan of action other than telling people to exit the stands, and everyone cramming around under the bleachers which were leaking rain. The concession stands I'm sure made out big with three rain delays totaling 3hrs of idle time. When they finally called the race after the fourth delay the trip through the parking lot was brutal, they took zero parking lot precautions and their lot is ill equipped for rain. Your a huge venue you need to have things in order. People were loosing shoes in the parking lot, older people were trying to navigate the puddles and rivers that were all over and then get through the swampy grass, it was brutal and quite embarrassing of a place representing Michigan. If it's sunny this place is great, otherwise, avoid it all costs. read more

We were really looking forward to the race Aug 22. It was a scorching day. The organizers really blew it. They had 40,000+ in attendance and only opened 2 parking lots. The handicap lots filled up and I watched as people with walkers worked their way from the main road to the event. My husband has parkinsons and was also having trouble walking. We asked for a golf cart and they said we would have to wait an hour and that all the handicap spots were full.g We did our best but could only see a few laps. My husband was so overheated we had to go below the stands. I had to et someone to take us to our cars so I could cool him down. The walk to the event was too much! You should have had more options for the handicap since the handicap area was full. We missed all but a few laps and drove all the way from Columbus. What a waste. read more

Having read all the other reviews about this 'wonderful' racetrack I knew I needed to put my own review online. I have been to Atlanta Speedway and Daytona. And MIS is a JOKE!!!!! We left early so the grandkids could spend some time meeting drivers and buying hats....expected to arrive at 12:30 pm..... BUT it took us an hour and a half to travel 2 miles for parking. No parking signs....yes, they had two lanes going south THAT MERGED AT A BUSY INTERSECTION....what a joke. So we arrived at the front entrance at 1:50 pm and proceeded to follow all the other cars to a supposed parking lot. Get to the back of the road and are told by a parking attendant that all the other attendants left so we had to turn around and find other parking. We just pulled into a small grassy area where other pissed off fans were parking....mind you it was at least a mile walk just to get to the front tarmac where the gate is located....it was another 3/4 to our seats. Oh, yes, the trams run all the time but strange thing is they were all full with fans but still stopped to 'pick up' people.....WITH NO SEATS. This will be the last race I attend at MIS....you people suck at your jobs. Food was way too far away....here is a suggestion: visit Daytona and talk to their event planners about parking and transportation. You could have another tram running to the close gates THAT ARE EMPTY...but no, worst race day of my life....thanks MIS....you screwed the pooch multiple times. read more

We took the boys to a race last Saturday. They really really enjoyed it. It was pretty interesting people watching for me. The staff was right on top of some guy smoking in the stands and everyone seemed pretty friendly. I wish they had left some concession areas open after the race. WE WERE STARVING and the only place to go was off the grounds. read more

MIS isn't Daytona, but it produces some fun 3-, 4-, and 5-wide racing. The surrounding Irish Hills provide breathtaking scenery that enhances the experience and helps me forget about anything outside of racing and tailgating when I make my yearly visit there. The crowds have dropped off in the past 6 years with the crappy economy and a wane in the NASCAR fan base, but to counter this, MIS offers the best deal of any NASCAR track on the circuit with $30 General Admission tickets. And since the track staff are friendly, nobody bothers you if you go sit in unoccupied seats higher up in the stands. Last August, I took advantage of promotion through local McDonald's that cut the cost of GA tickets in half, so I got to see a NASCAR Cup race for $15, which is incredible when compared to the $100+ prices for MIS's best seats or any seat at Chicagoland Speedway which start at $60. For Chicago-area fans, MIS is a day trip as long as you don't get too tanked at the race. Parking and traffic flow in and out of the track is pretty easy (this is something else the track has succeeded in improving for fans). I am a big fan of MIS, despite some less-than-thrilling stock car races I've seen there. I think the August race is more intense than the June race because of the looming Chase cut-off at that point in the season. My only and greatest beef with the track is that they dropped their July IndyCar date a few years back, and that was my favorite race of the year. MIS, International Speedway Corporation, and the IndyCar Series need to sit down and come to terms so they can get the IndyCars back on track at MIS, where they have been sorely missed since their last race there in 2007. read more

Alright I am NO Nascar "fan" so to speak... I have never even been to a real nascar speedway but damn this was impressive. As a fam we came to watch Mr. Harmon do the Track Time Racing School. I was in awe... this place is huge!!!! I could not even imagine this place full to the gills or even imagine the traffic to get to the place... (There are all two lane highways leading up to the speedway on every side!!) I bet this would be a very fun venue for concerts or even a good ol Nascar race. Who knows maybe Ill make it down to Brooklyn again for something out of my element read more

Have always loved being a part of such a large experience. It was my first job at 13 years old in the summer we would work very limited hours but good money for a summer job for a 13-year-old. Expect to pay a really high praises but that's just our economy nowadays but MIS is A great race track and inexperience everybody should have it's pretty amazing especially being up in upper suites and looking down! WOW , you really grasp the enormously huge track, but you can also see behind the backstretch where the old Grand Prix track used to be it's an experience everybody should have, I really wish kids by even to eight could get in cheaper or for the trial runs for free read more

Went to2 Nascar races here. The tickets were given to me...never watched a race in my life before that (or since)...lol. Great, big track! THEY LET YOU BRING IN YOUR OWN BEER FOLKS!! 6 Tall boys in a soft sided cooler..yup! We had BBQ pulled pork from a stand there and it was actually good! Maybe because I was drinking in the sun for 6hrs prior?! My only gripe is the traffic...upon leaving the race the cops make ya one way out the parking lot. This track is visually stunning. The area around it is gorgeous. While drivers complain that there isn't much to do, at least it's pretty! The fans that come to the races at MIS are great for the most part (I have rarely come across problems) and are ready to party all day long. It's been about four years since I've been to a race up there, so I'm not sure how traffic is. I personally never found it to be too horrible, but be prepared: you can't always go the direction you want while exiting. Either study the traffic flow map, or know your way around the area. I've always parked in the water tower lot. Parking on the track property is free. The racing at the track isn't always exciting, as it's occasionally plagued by long green flag runs where the leader gets away from everyone, and the last few races I made it to were ended with fuel-mileage strategy (there was that one time I managed a nap., however that's more a testament to my sleeping ability than anything else) but I've always had a good time at MIS. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. You will never forget a weekend here. It's amazing. Everyone is like family here. Complete strangers are friends with other complete strangers. I've been going here every summer for the past seven years. I love everyone here. MIS just puts me in a better mood. I always get a little ancy when I see the sign that says "Michigan Int'l Speedway" and then I get even more ancy when I see the sign on the pedestrian bridge that says "Welcome Race Fans". This is my first review and I just had to do it for MIS. Seriously, even if you don't like NASCAR, you should check this place out. People come up with hilarious things to do for their campsites. I've seen people tie cardboard cut outs of Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Johnson to the back of their trucks and let them drag as they drive. It's hilarious. I highly recommend coming here. Very nice setup and location for NASCAR race!! A little light on having the police direct traffic, we have seen better, so prepare to sit in lines. Grandstands are bleachers, and they do have a rental company at the gate to give you good seating. Like most, you can bring in your own food, drinks, beer, etc as long as it is not glass. Tons of bathrooms, kept up nicely with soap and towels. Beer sold at six bucks for tall beers, including Labatts blue! Onsite made kettle corn was great, plus pizza and bbq nachos. Parking is fine in the grass, but bring chairs to sit and relax after the race while everyone else sits in traffic lines. Great race views, excellent announcing with good loudspeakers, and you can get Close to the action. Only thing they could upgrade is bigger TV screens for the fans. Don't forget your earplugs AND muffs to protect your ears, we we're surprised with how many did not have them. We also liked them letting fans on to the track at the end. Tip, sit at least 12 rows up to see the entire track. read more

Never in my life would I have thought I'd end up at a NASCAR race, but low and behold, here I was in Brighton, MI in a sea of repurposed busses, RV's and tents in the infield. This is one of those experiences that you have to see at least once in your life. The hype around NASCAR is a bit foreign to me, as you watch the cars race around in circles for hours. Not my idea of fun, but the infield party is where it's at. BBQ's, beers, and betting are the norm, and the venue reminded me of a shantytown, where race fans are camped out for days, listening to the constant hum of the cars. There's a mobile trailer where showers are available, as well as a convenient store for snacks and forgotten toiletries. Walking around outside the track is a myriad of souvenir trailers, where fans can get the memorabilia of their fave drivers. For me, the most striking thing was the lack of diversity, although I never felt out of place with my non-white skin. All in all, an eye-opening day of new experiences. read more
