The Dirt Burner's facility is a nice quaint facility. My wife likes going here and the fact they treat her respectfully as a customer.

Kites and Fun Things provide superior service and superior products. I highly recommend them.read more

This is a cute little mom and pop shop that's the only game in town when it comes to stores…read moreexclusively devoted to kites (and windsocks, spinners and possibly a handful of other wind activated amusements I don't know the names for). Some friends of mine started something they dubbed Detroit Kite Club. As you might have guessed this involves people getting together and flying kites. I decided I wanted in and after perusing some kites online I opted to go to a brick and mortar outlet as I was going out to Ann Arbor and saw there was exactly one kite store in metro Detroit. The selection isn't huge. They didn't have the cool skeleton or bat kites I saw online. I did, however, get a fantastic large multicolored owl kite that garners positive comments just about every time I've flown it. (Usually at Metro Beach or Belle Isle.) The lady working there was super nice, too. I lost one of the plastic poles that hold my big technicolor owl together and misplaced my reel of kite string so I had to go back and the same lady cut me a new pole in short time after I showed her the one I needed and she didn't have quite the right length. She even gave me an extra free of charge just in case I lose another. And sold me a better reel than the first one I had - I believe this one is 500 feet. That owl can get way up there on a windy day if I let it all the way out. I haven't flown the owl yet this year. I'm planning on going to the U.P. with two other DKC members next month so maybe I'll bring it. They have a kite that looks like a squid. An owl and a squid hanging out - wacky! The Free Design once sang that Kites are Fun and they are. And this is where you can find fun Kites and fun things.

If you want a special letter/character, they will charge you an additional $5…read more If you a digital proof of the special letter/character they will charge you $25, this is optional. I think that the fee is a bit high but then they do not them in house. I was thinking about ordering some capes for my friends and I and if you buy in bulk of qty 10 the shipping is $14.95 or $19.95 for up to 20 capes. They do offer a discount on orders of 10% or more but its not that much when compared to their sale price. So if you do not nee them right away I would wait for a sale to happen. The "hero" or medium size cape is 30" and the "superhero" or large is 48" The quality of the capes are not that bad but I personally probably would not pay full price for them only because I won't be using them as often. I do like the Velcro option vs the string because it can be such a hazard with kids running around pretending they can fly.

I ordered a cape from this company as a special big brother present for my son. It arrived stuffed into a plastic mailer, so it was totally wrinkled, and there was not one, but two tears/runs in the fabric. Absolutely ridiculous. The quality wasn't great, either. Very thin, so I can see how the fabric wouldn't hold up. I contacted them to return it and first they sent me a mailing label with their former address on it, so it came back to me, and then when I sent it back, they said it was past 30 days and didn't refund me the full amount. Uh, I had a baby?! They knew that -- and they also acknowledged that they had the wrong return address on the first return label. I took my business to a wonderful Etsy seller and couldn't be happier.

Two of the older ladies working started randomly talking about guns and their views on using them…read moreand I didn't think much of it until I was heading towards the front of the store and heard the same lady who was talking about guns say something under her breath. Once I got to the register an item price scanned wrong. I bought it to a younger cashiers attention which she acknowledged was happening all day. She went to correct the issue but gave me a a full refund for the item that scanned wrong in my hands which I thought she wanted me to go back to the self checkout since that is what I used. Instead of taking my confusion and explaining what she was doing she stated I'm not going to let you walk out of here in reference to thinking I was going to take the money and items and leave despite me not showing any interest or movement of doing that. Because of my experience I just asked for a full refund instead of the partial and they got a defensive and told me I received the full refund. Instead of making a bigger scene I left to go to my car to check the receipt and money and went back in because they didn't refund 1 of 2 items. When I came back in the older cashier that was making the comments and was there when I asked for the full refund said oh s**t... I never made a scene, wasn't rude, or anything and yet was treated poorly. I got the full refund and I will not be supporting places that treat people like this.
