Scott's Garage

I recently had my BMW 1-Series serviced at a garage in Bangor, the follow up report suggested that…read morethe engine had " Excessive play in the timing change", although no symptoms or diagnostics supported this report. But this could be catastrophic, if the timing chain jumps on the cogs or the actually brakes while the engine is at high revs. The garage gave me an estimated cost to replace the chain to be over £500.00. I was obviously concerned, but because I had doubts about this report I decided to get a second opinion from Johnny at Scott's Garage. Johnny took the time to do a thorough inspection of the engine, run complete computer diagnostic report, and a test drive. His conclusion was the timing chain appears to be serviceable and of no concern at this time. Johnny a competent and experienced engineer, who at short notice gave me his valuable time and honest opinion. What more do you want from your garage? I will certainly be using Scott's Garage at Dundonald for all my car repairs and servicing requirements in the future. Thank you. John Dawber Bangor Co.Down.
I'm going to sound like a complete Daddy's girl today (which isn't too far wrong to be honest...),…read morebut my dad has been impressed with Johnathan Scott since going to him with car problems three or four years ago. And he's never looked back... Scott's Garage was initially based on the Ballyregan Road, which was handy enough for us being less than ten minutes down the road. My dad took both his car and my mum's for MOT prep, for repair when he had a couple of accidents, and just general look-overs. Johnathan would always give my dad a lift home before starting work on the car, which was really lovely of him, and meant by dad didn't have to use public transport (it's been a while), or get a lift. Last year (I think...these years start to roll into one after a while), Johnathan opened up a new garage in Carrowreagh Business Park, allowing him to expand his business, and still provide the same great service. My dad has never had a complaint about him, he works incredibly hard, and offers his services are incredibly decent prices. What more could you want?!

A big place, spread across 2 sides of the main road between Newry and Bessbrook, selling second hand cars as well as brand new. But it is the first class service that makes me recommend them here at Morrows, easy going and will give you a fair deal on a part exchange, and offer a good warranty with 2nd hand stuff. They found me a wee skoda citigo, which was perfect, ticked all the boxes. And they did it with a friendliness that wasn't over bearing, like it usually is in car dealers, and they seemed to really care, even going so far as to give me a free can of carpet cleaner, making me feel like I wasn't just another customer. I only wished I'd went here sooner, the other places I visited were far too pressurising. I highly recommend this place, great customer service!
I'd forgotten just how good, and genuinely friendly, locally owned business can be and our tendency…read morein recent years has been to opt for national chain stores to buy stuff especially paint, tools etc particularly from a price point. I did a review recently where a local store wanted twice the price for metallic paint that I needed and the brand the local guy offered was inferior too (it was £33 against £60 for 2.5 litres) so that's quite a price difference - so went went with the National chain. I do like to keep it local but the price difference here was just a turn off/rip-off and this local store has - to put it kindly - a reputation for maximising their profits. This time round I needed two specialist small tyres and of course I went to a local tyre depot. Now they didn't have the specialist tyres in stock and on checking they could get them in within a few days. The man serving me asked if I tried this place. I wouldn't have thought of it at all. So he rang over for me and they had exactly what I needed and better still their deal included the rims as well as the tyres for the price of the tyres in the tyre depot. When I turned up here I applied their hand sanitiser and joined the Wu Flu queue; within 10 minutes I was leaving with my new made in Vietnam wheels and when I paid I got an additional discount without even asking.

I like the company too. This is their latest and digital contraption at near £300. This new one gave problems from the start, but as I bought it on the Eve of travel I took it along. The first sign of trouble was that it wouldn't recognise being connected to the internet. This one has free lifetime maps so I was trying to refresh for the journey. When I arrived in Halford's I had to wait several minutes for someone to come to the check out. The young lady that came to me got it straight away as I explained it sometimes would go off itself and maybe on again itself or not go off when I tried to switch hit off - I had to hold the off button nearly a minute. Sometimes the guy would speak, sometimes not, sometimes loud, sometimes quiet. Sometimes the screen would go blue and say it couldn't locate the satellite signal despite it having worked on the same road a few hours before. Or put another way: infuriating. So she rang Garmin and inside a minute got a replacement approved. It took her longer to find the replacement than it took Garmin to agree replacement - and that why I like the company. Great attitude. Like Apple in the early days.
Clarke Brothers isn't really an Auto Factors, they're actually a Clutch Specialist, so when my…read moreSWMBO burnt out the clutch on her ancient jalopy, I was sent to Clarkes as they were they only place who didn't answer her enquiry with "A what?" They are basically a two man operation, there's Gerry, who is a walking encyclopedia of all things clutch related, and Paul, who looks like he should be ripping the guts out of a Harley in LA somewhere instead of working in a clutch shop in Belfast. In any case they were able to supply a clutch to fit and were very reasonable about it. My second visit was an emergency when my father left his car into his local mechanic and the clutch supplied by the mechanic was wrong, just what he needed on a Saturday morning, of course the clutch was an oddball item that wasn't in stock, fortunately my hairy namesake took one look at it, told me to "Bugger off for an hour" and when I returned he had refurbished the clutch like new. In short, it's one of those businesses that's a throwback to a previous age, two blokes who know what they are talking about and will take the time for a bit of banter and to make sure you're happy.

There is space to park the car outside, which is very important for somewhere so close to the centre of Belfast. The staff are wonderfully polite and friendly, which in the macho world of car parts and repairs is a real plus! They provide installation and all other relevant advice, and are very helpful!
