As we went to their internal scale to weigh the last of our load, the gentleman (I'm being civil, here) operating the scale greeted us warmly enough. What followed, though, blew my damn mind. In the course of making conversation, he asked what I've come to call "filtering questions", driving towards a) if we're from the area (yes), b) how long we've been here (since birth), and c) exactly where in the area we're from, first with the county, then the town. He tossed out suggestions for some of the more racially diverse communities in our area, but when told we're from a more rural community, visually relaxed, then felt the need to tell us how "Mexicans" (said somewhat under his breath) have ruined the city wide yard sale in our hometown "with their cheap Chinese crap". When I refuted this, he began to scoff, then redirected the conversation towards guns, how much he loves them ("I love my guns!"... "How else are you gonna shoot somebody?"), and the fact that he's shot people before, because "they deserved it", and tried to justify his casual attitude about the entire thing with what seemed, to me, to be a half-hearted self-defense plea. In this area, I don't expect this review to make much difference. That said, if you'd rather not sell your scrap to what seem to be gun-toting racists, I'd stay away. As for the payout? Seemed like market value or thereabouts to me, pretty fair.

The girls in the office are on point as well . It is nice to see the same people and a smiling face when its 104 outside, raining, and snowing. What makes it great is that it is my one stop recycling center. They offer bins for cardboard, plastic, aluminum, and glass. Plus the Goodwill drop off truck is right there. Perfect! Places to recycle are not abundant on the West side, so I'm really glad to have found it! My only complaint; they are only open until 5:00 on week days and I can never stop in after work. Even 6:00 would be reasonable for me to get there with plenty of time! Plus they have limited hours on Sunday, so you really need to get in on Saturday if at all possible. Now that I've gone green, I just can't go back! :)

When I gave it to her the label she indicated there would be no charge. I think she and the owner would have taken my money and probably received payment twice. Owner was present at the time and it seemed to me that she supportive of what her employee did. I've used their services 3 times this past year and do not plan on hoing back. Horrible customer service! Shame on them for trying to take advantage of a senior citizen.

Since my building does not offer recycling services (we're still in the South and way behind the…read morecurve sometimes), I have to either hire someone or haul it myself. I prefer this center since it's somewhat of a nice drive, fairly easy to access, open 24/7/365(6), and located directly next to a park if I want some green space time, too, thereby making my trip efficient. It's usually cleanish, but in my last few visits the place looks more like a dumping ground; specifically the cardboard bins. They are stuffed and overflowing to the point where folks just pile their cardboard on the ground next to the containers. (Unless it's me who wants to find every tiny space in the bins to shove the cardboard into.) Perhaps this is due to the increase in ship-to-home? Regardless, it's a problem that I've not yet seen a resolution to. I've actually been delaying hauling my recyclables knowing that the holidays have likely only added to the frustration of bin availability. Since this center is located in the back corner of the lot for McGavock High School, there is ample parking for unloading recyclables. However, turning into the lot from the road can be a bit tight. It's just a weird turn for some odd reason. Also, when the buses are running for the school year, keep an eye out for them as they will come flying into this lot for overnight parking. Since I last took photos, there are updated signs to instruct what can and cannot be placed into the bins. I recently noticed on the Nashville.gov website that the recyclables list has changed. I was sad to learn that some of the plastic containers that are 100% recyclable the city can no longer take only because they do not have a buyer for those specific items. I also learned some of my paper pieces were too small, so now when I scrub my mail I make sure to take care to leave the paper in larger pieces so they're recyclable. Anyway, the list is very well assembled and incredibly detailed. What's the point in recycling if we don't do it correctly? Go check it out.
