Unfortunately, we've frequent the ER quite a few times late into the night, in the past year. Last year I had a respiratory infection that just wouldn't go away and hubby had vertigo (and some other ailments in other separate times). There were a few times it got to the point where we had no where else to turn and ended up in the ER. From admission to discharge, the staff had been very attentive to our needs, explained the condition that we may have, and what follow-ups we need to do as we recover. They also continue to make sure that patients' needs are still being met satisfactory even after discharge. For instance, I was admitted with a moderate respiratory infection and was given a prescription that was fulfilled by the nearby CVS. Turns out, the attending doctor unintentionally wrote me a prescription that was supposed to be used with a nebulizer, so one call to the ER department straightened everything out. Even though I didn't speak with the doctor who treated me, I spoke with one who looked up my records, faxed the proper prescription over to CVS, and even told me that if I am not able to return the already filled prescription to CVS, to bring it to Middlesex and they will reimburse me. That was pretty awesome! Even though our personal experiences had only been with the ER, we have been to Middlesex to visit friends or relatives. The hospital is very clean; and during our visits, our friends/relatives were well cared for and comfortable during their stay. I hate hospitals because they are just depressing to me, but if I had a choice, I would prefer Middlesex. At least everyone is well cared for to the highest standards and staff is very professional, unlike another hospital in another city, where I had food poisioning from eating at Applebee's and ended up not being seen at all (but that's another story...and not even worth mentioning). read more

The staff (nurses, aids, security guards, technicians, etc.) are excellent at this hospital. Unfortunately, their system of patient care by the doctors is a little screwed up. Hospitalists are assigned several floors and also rotate into the emergency room. It literally may take a day before you are seen by a doctor after admission. (unless you are in critical care) Recently rated top 100 hospitals in the country- congrats to the staff. read more

Went to this facility seeking medical attention after I woke up with my foot being completely numb, I was in excruciating pain. When I got to the facility the physician at the time went into the room and asked me what was going on and after I tell him he proceeds to tell me that I am a big person which could be part of why I am having sever back pain and that it should go away. I received an injection and went home. The whole visit was less than 20 minutes. I received a $3,000 bill for this mediocre visit and when I reached out to pay the bill and expressed that I was not able to afford what the total was each month for a payment plan, I was told that it is what it is and that they are not a fast food place where a menu with prices is available to patients. Kimberly whom I spoke with at the billing office then stated that if I don't make the payments that they will send me to collections. It costs $1,400 to just walk in just so that people are aware before going to this place. It is was another $1,400 if you get an injection. It's sad to think that this part of the reason people are turning away from seeking medical attention. This is sad. Worst hospital will never return even if it's life threatening. read more

I came here for surgery...the hospital is immaculately clean, and the room I was in was so comfortable. The staff were unbelievably kind, helpful and pleasant. They really made a painful recovery as easy as possible. I have been to several other hospitals in Connecticut, but Middlesex is far and away the best! read more

My most recent hospitalization for surgery at Middlesex was excellent. The doctors were great, the experience I had in the surgical area was individually tailored to meet my needs. The staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and to make my family informed. The nursing staff was very good and everyone involved treated me respect My next stay at Middlesex hospital for surgery was also great. Dr Lee worked with the staff in the hospital to make the process seamless. My primary care doctor Louise Maloney was also involved. I regrettably had a third hospitalization for pneumonia that was secondary to the operation I had. This time I had to work with a hospitalist. The hospitalist spoke with my primary care doctor and obviously did not Pay much attention to what she had to say. Now that I'm complaining again it has been decided that I need a care plan. The only person that isn't involved in doing the care plan is the patient. Having the patient uninvolved seems like a real problem to me. So much for communication and collaboration to optimize a client successful hospitalization.During this hospitalization they totally dismissed what had been recommended and made the hospital stay a Trumatic experience. I'm not asking for perfection but I am asked him for inclusion in the plan. That makes sense to me. All of that took place around January 11, 2017. I am still waiting for quality assurance to follow through on what they said they were going to do to rectify the situation. Never go to this hospital as an inpatient. If something doesn't go right they take no responsibility and do nothing to fix it. read more

Worst ever. The only thing they seem to do well is take down payment information. Everything else takes forever, no one keeps you updated...sadly I've been here multiple times, each time is worse than the last. Don't give these people your money. Go to New Haven instead. I was taken to the ER department yesterday due to a chronic illness I suffer from that hit an all time high with pain. Everyone that helped were not able to do much which I expected, however everyone was really friendly and kind. They showed genuine concern for me. One of the physicians even stepped away to call his wife for a second opinion and a referral. I have gone to new Britain in the past and every time it was a horrible experience. Happy to know that I have a place I can go to where I will be well taken care of. read more

My two sisters have had a total of three babies here. The staff is great and seem genuinely excited to see the new kiddos.

Great hospital, not a large hospital so you get more attention from the staff. All the Doctor's are great and the support staff is friendly and helpful. Easy in and out. Parking is free. read more

After receiving a call that our son had been admitted to Middlesex Hospital for an emergency appendectomy, my husband and I scrambled to pack up our vacation and head to the hospital, a 5+ hour drive from where we were at that time. After the initial shock of learning that our son had been hospitalized, I called Middlesex and spoke with our son's nurse who explained the situation and the surgery that was planned for our son. She did her best to put my mind at ease, and to answer my many questions. She offered to have the surgeon, Dr Malon, call me when she arrived to the hospital, which Dr Malon did a short time later. Dr Malon reiterated what the nurse had told us previously, and providing us additional details as to what she had planned for our son's surgury. Dr. Malon was straight forward, informative and assured us that our son was doing fine and expected that the surgery would go as planned. When we arrived at Middlesex Hospital, we found that the hospital to be very clean and having a great infectious control program called 'GOJO' which promotes and monitors hand cleaning. Our son was in recovery when we arrived, then moved to CCU where we found his private room to be immaculate, and very comfortable. We were greeted by the attending physician, who assured us that our son was going well and was on the road to a full recovery. The nursing staff in both recovery and CCU were attentive, very competent professionals who showed sincere concern and compassion for our son. Dr Malon checked in on our son and to approve his discharge, which gave us the opportunity to thank her personally for taking such good care of our son. Should have been NO stars but it wasn't an option. Brought my daughter to the ER today and waited in the waiting room for 2 hours - only to NEVER be seen by a doctor! AND.. the staff were rude and not accommodating at all!! Won't be going there again! read more

So far I have mixed emotions about the Cancer treatment and care at Middlesex cancer center. They don't do a good job communicating with the patient and family. We have a Family Doctor, ENT Doctor, Oncologist, radiation therapy doctor, skilled nursing center, case manager, and social worker that does not coordinate effectively with each other that would provide the family with a realistic prognosis and progress of my wife's cancer and treatment. It is a mystery to me as to who is in charge of informing the family. Also, the time it takes to diagnose and provide the proper therapy takes too long and may not be in sync with the advance to a tumor. I don't know if it is a staffing or equipment problem. In either case, this hospital seems to have a very serious management problem. I had a significantly better experience with my cancer at Yale Medical Center and see no reason why Middlesex Hospital can not meet the Yale standard of care. read more

I personally do not like going to emergency room, i have complex health issues that er drs never like to deal with or acknowledge, this has been a long going thing for me. When I was forced to come here, I was slightly relieved, looked clean and empty... Pretty peaceful for what I had going on, started out decent enough. Great staff to start, and some lovely nurses, my dr was a nightmare. She didn't listen to anything I said, she witnessed me convulsing, she witnessed my muscle spasms, and ignored my constant attempts at trying to explain what has been happening. This has been a build up of issues. I spent hours there, got attitude, missed the one helpful thing she ordered, my MRI, due to the poor time management and attitude of one of my nurses. I heard the team in MRI repeatedly ask her to hurry up with transfer, and she gave them, and ME attitude, and proceeded to take her time and leave again. I was repeatedly offered Xanax, despite mentioning my family history, and the fact that I was not anxious, but stressed. I suffer from anxiety attacks, I know what they are ( the next morning I suffered them the entire day actually,after what I went through in the er, I couldn't get myself back together. It was so stressful). I've gone to two ERs in Bridgeport in the past that were surprisingly way more patient friendly. She was rude. Cold. And didn't acknowledge anything I came in with. My discharge papers mearly highlighted the issues that meant nothing to me, and she kept wanting to focus on (they didn't come close to being issues or relevant to what was happening). It was the worst experience I've had, and now that I need follow up care, I'm genuinely scared to have to end up in another er like this one. read more

I hate to write bad reviews, but my experiences at Middlesex hospital warrants it. I have been to hospitals across the United States and around the world. Middlesex hospital is by far the worst. The facilities are very nice, new, and modern. Rooms are big and comfortable. The hospitals weakness is the staff. This is a long review so I'll give the summary here: I visited Middlesex Hospital emergency room 3 times, once in an ambulance. The staff are likely not very experienced, unprofessional, and some were downright rude. I was ignored, mocked, and blamed for my back condition. At no point was I ever seen by a doctor; only nurses or Physician Assistants. After pleading with them for an MRI, I got one and they found that I had a massively hemorrhaged disc that needed surgery. Do yourself a favor and skip Middlesex Hospital. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. Here is the long story: My back started to hurt. I couldn't stand up straight or sit for more than a minute without pain running down both my legs. I waited a few days because I expected it to improve, however it only got worse. I went to Shoreline Middlesex Hospital because it was close and the wait time was listed as 16 minutes. I arrived, checked in, and then squatted (sitting, standing, and laying down were painful) in pain for over 3 hours. During the 3 hours no one stopped in to see me other than to take my blood pressure. When the PA came in, she explained that I should just take some ibuprofen and wait it out. I had to ask for some painkillers and an X-ray. Overall it was a painful 4 hour trip for some painkillers that didn't work very well and X-rays. Several days later the pain was considerably worse. I went to Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. They again said there was "nothing they can do other than prescribe painkillers". They gave me some and then told me try walking. I was able to walk a little, but only while hunched over. They then blamed the problem on me for not walking upright. I tried explaining that standing upright would cause excruciating pain, but I was ignored, and sent home. Several days later, the pain is even worse. While trying to walk to the kitchen in my house my leg suddenly lost all control and I fell to the ground. I had to call 911 and they brought me back to Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. Upon arrival, the same nurse who saw me before said, "bet you are still walking hunched over. That's why you have that pain". Then she proceeded to mimic my disability. I equated that blaming rape victims for the clothes they wear. The PA came in shortly after and told me "there's nothing I can do to fix this, but can help manage the pain". It's not a mystery that back problems are complicated and can rarely be fully fixed, and I had no expectations of being "completely cured". However, i do expect the doctors and nurses to at least attempt to find the cause of the pain. I explained to the PA that I already had an MRI planned for that afternoon at 3pm at the same hospital. The PA told me he didn't know where the radiology department was. That confused me greatly as the radiology department was literally right down the hall. After much back and forth, I had my MRI. Turns out I had a massive hemorrhaged disk that needed surgery. The PA quickly changed his tone after viewing the MRI and suggested I see their surgeon. I declined and went to a different hospital for the operation due to my negative experiences at Middlesex Hospital. read more

This is the worse hospital in the state. Something is wrong with me and nobody cares. I didn't even get examined! Instead I had rent a cops called on me as well as the police. I'd rather have been arrested and handcuffed to a bed so the pa (not a real dr) would have been forced to figure out what is wrong with me. I went there before for a broken ankle and it was set wrong over a holiday weekend. I now walk with a limp. The state should close this facility down before it harms anyone else.The only reason I gave it 1 star is because it wouldn't allow to leave a negative star. read more

Our hospital is a top 100 in the nation. Very difficult to achieve! MMH is also earned a Magnet Award for Nursing, I think 2-3 years in a row...another extremely hard thing to achieve. Overall, this is a nice hospital. They have a brand new multi million dollar E.R. and it feels like it, too! All my babies were born there (3) and the maternity ward is the absolute BEST. I have had good experiences here. One thing to note, though - the parking STINKS! It is almost non-exsistent! So, they need to work on more parking.... read more

The staff has Horrible bed side manner and overall I felt as though the providers were not thorough. It was a really bad experience.

I am sure they are friendly but I missed my first appointment and the phone call to remind me of the appointment. When I called to reschedule they said NO! They have a very spiteful policy which states, roughly speaking, that if you waste their physicians time they will ensure you NEVER get to come back and see them. I tried to pay the no show fee but that didn't matter. They were kind enough to give me some other places to go though. So, I guess with the changes in Healthcare, Middlesex Hospital is making money hand over fist and happy to turn away patients like myself who have remained loyal to their prior primary care physician for over 20 years. I wonder what other policy's they have that put the patient last. read more

Middlesex Hospital is awful. They treat people as if they were cattle. A majority of the doctors and staff there have no bedside manner and very little capabilities. BEWARE OF MIDDLESEX! read more
