I have had excellent experiences with this company on several different occasions now. When they replaced our on demand water heater, the owner himself came out to do the initial consultation. The installer was efficient and creative in his work. Everyone made sure that we understood our new unit and were happy with it. Just recently I needed a piece of sheet metal to make a custom cap for my roof. Again, I was really listened to and I received something much less complicate than I thought I would need. I don't remember ever writing a strongly negative review of any business or service provider - until now. Middleton Heating & Sheet Metal deserves zero stars for my last three years of experience with them. This year (2020) makes three years in a row that Middleton has not been able to fix our Lennox air conditioning system. We have gone without AC since 2017 even though we spent well over $3,500 on MIddleton charges since that time. Middleton repeatedly promised that the system will work just fine with this next repair, and the next repair, and so on. They even installed a new line from the heat pump to the interior system across my finished garage. It looks awful. They were looking for a refrigerant leak but they never found it. Last week (June 2020), the owner came to the house and said the heat pump needs to be replaced since that is the only part of the system that hasn't been worked on. The new heat pump would cost almost $10,000. At this point, I didn't trust the company and the owner for their competence or honesty. I contacted another service provider. The second HVAC provider found the leak within 45 minutes on the same day I called them. The leak was NOT in the heat pump after all; it was in the evaporator coil. As it turns out, Lennox lost a class action suit in 2016 specifically for its poorly manufactured evaporator coils. Middleton did not tell me about the class action law suit nor did the law suit seem to influence Middleton's servicing of my AC system. In effect, Middleton's owner wanted me to buy a new heat pump on his "hunch" that's where the leak would be. It wasn't there. Their technical skills are certainly not up to the competition's and their honesty is questionable. Overall, Middleton Heating & Sheet Metal is a poorly managed company that doesn't seem to respect its customers. Middleton hasn't offered any compensation for the inconveniences (no AC, ugly piping running across a finished garage and many service visits) they caused us over the last three years. I just want to say what an amazing company this is. My air conditioning went out and I have my elderly parents living with me who needed it cooler. I spoke with the receptionist who put me in touch with Dale. He set up an appointment that day. I had the technicians out within an hour. They were polite and very professional and definitely knew their job. We had air conditioning in no time. I don't know what I would have done without them. Middleton Heating and Sheet Metal deserves a well earned 0 rating as described by another customer/ Ray in reviews. We had used them for a number of years for fireplace maintenance but when our fireplace stopped working end of Feb 2021 they said the company that made the guts for fireplace were out of business. Their technician said not to worry the owner would recommend a replacement kit to get us up and running. We had confidence based on their recommendation as this is what they do after all. It was during the pandemic and as with everything else the parts were on back order and would not arrive until May 2021. We kept checking in but nothing until July 2021 when they scheduled installation of the new "kit" they recommended would work. Unfortunately during installation the tech had to take a part back to the shop to retrofit as it was not fitting as it should. He said it was successful and he got it all together and showed me how to use the remote. As you can imagine we had no need to use the fireplace until October 2021 when temps started to drop at night. When we began to use the fireplace had a odor like a chemical. We called as the remote was not working and the fireplace could not be turned on and for this odor. This will really shock you - 3 wks after that call a tech finally came out and touched a piece of the connectors and it fell off - we had a gas leak and were told we could not use the fireplace and they would have to order parts. WHAT you left us with a gas leak which could have blown up our house? After months of weekly calls to see when we might have the parts and countless promises of return calls which never happened - around January they came out with parts which did not work 8" too short. The tech called the company who makes the parts and explained the situation and were told they would look into it. As you can imagine after repeated calls to check on the parts we spoke with the owner/ Dale who denied knowing anything about this situation even though we were told he was the one who ordered the parts. we had to provide an invoice number and check number before he would look into this. Not surprising even though he said he would get back to us he just blew us off. Again more repeated calls to find out what they planned to do and of course no one returned calls which they promised would be answered by EOD. We even suggested they call company and ask to have a new kit sent out and they would send this one back. Finally in February we were told after more calls on our part that the company that made this kit which they said they put in a number of houses jn corvallis no longer was making the kit and parts were not available. How can this be when kit they recommended would never work. Their resolves was they would have a tech come out and try to make a part to work with no guarantee and no warranty. Obviously this is a ludicrous response and we suggested they come take out this kit and reimburse us as we look for a legit company that could actually get our fireplace to work. Of course they said they would once again get back to us but as you can imagine radio silence. Just hope we would go away. We did consult with another reputable company that reached out to them to find out more about this odd kit situation and to retrieve the initial part they took off to replace but they bounced them around and a number of parties and finally said they did not have the part any longer. Hmmm that's interesting since they wanted to come out and retro fit this same part a few weeks ago. And here's the best part one of the connectors was installed backwards and the reason the original part did not fit. WORST customer service and owner who obviously does not care what type of service his company provides but would rather take your money and leave you hanging . read more

In early 2008, I had the misfortune of hiring Middleton to replace a heat pump for a house that was (at the time) a rental. I have a written proposal from them that clearly states the pump has a 10 year warranty. However, when the unit broke down in 2014, Middleton refused to honor the warranty, saying that I had not sent in paperwork to the manufacturer. First, I was never told that I needed to send in paperwork; and second, Middleton never provided me any paperwork. They might have left something with the renter, which would have reflected incredibly poor judgment on their part. Anyway, that repair cost me $946 (done by another company). Now, in April 2016, the compressor on the unit has stopped working and the entire heat pump will need to be replaced. I contacted Middleton again, and again they refused to honor the written warranty that they gave me in their proposal. This company does not stand behind what they promised me, and their misleading proposal is costing me thousands of dollars. read more

What great service! They sent a technician out the same morning I called. Bryan was professional, courteous and showed up on time. He was able to quickly diagnose the problem with our AC unit. He had the replacement part on hand and was able to fix it right away. He explained what he was doing along the way. The price seemed fair and reasonable. Four stars for Bryan. We had a problem with maintenance performed on our gas log set fireplaces. Bryan came back to re-do the work by the other technician and found that the pilot light also had to be replaced. He did very good work and was a pleasure to deal with - competent, thorough, and friendly. If I could give this place a zero star rating I would. I called and the receptionist woman hung up on me the first time. Thinking it was a mistake I called back and she dropped the f bomb on me and hung up again. For a company that has been around so long you would think they would hire better people. Sad to say but this business needs a major overhaul in customer service and their follow up with a complaint. Just look at the fact that they only have a three star rating and that pretty much sums it up. Got one of their new hires for a job who did a poor and unacceptable job on a water heater and then when finished, wandered over to the next door neighbors for a look-see at his issue. Since he was there for almost 25 minutes and apparently hadn't clocked out on our finished job, guess who got billed for that additional time? Then, they wouldn't back off that charge nor come and fix the issue that the "new hire" guy created. Hopefully they've let that poor technician go but I doubt they've changed their unacceptable in-house customer service. I guarantee you that this is not just a rant but a very unsatisfied customer. We finally hired another company to fix the unacceptable issue with perfect results. read more

I had Middleton come out and service my gas fireplace when we bought our home. I was unimpressed with the first person they sent -- he was very nice and polite but obviously was not very experienced (did not even know how to turn on the fireplace!) and he missed the fact that our fan didn't work at all (among a few other things). When it got colder and we started using the fireplace more, I realized the fan didn't work and asked them to send someone else. The second employee was also extremely polite, on-time and very tidy. However, he was much more knowledgeable and fixed the fan (it had been hooked up incorrectly) and answered all my questions. He also did not charge me for the visit, which was much appreciated. read more

They seem to do well when service is planned, but not so good with emergencies. This company installed and serviced my gas furnace annually for 8 years without a problem, but the first time we had an issue (furnace died - really cold outside), their service was not acceptable. Despite our ongoing vendor-customer relationship, and the fact that they had just done the annual tune up within the last 90 days, they provided less than stellar customer service when an issue arose. They did not return a call to their emergency "after hours" line placed at 7:00 p.m. until the next morning at 7:30. When requesting emergency service, they said that they were "really busy" and would need to add an emergency surcharge even if they were able to make it there during business hours, which was unlikely. I ended up calling A Degree Above, and he was able to be on site within 2 hours, found the issue, and fixed it immediately. It was a switch that had gone bad. read more
