Entrance with signage SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CAFFEINE DEALER
    Pat M.

I stopped by to grab a coffee while visiting from out of state. From the witty wording on the window, "Support Your Local Caffeine Dealer," I anticipated a good experience. Here are my ratings: Food I had a hazelnut latte and was underwhelmed by the flavor Service Little eye contact but pleasant enough, my rating reflects how my order was announced ("Latte!" That's it- didn't call my name or specify what the order was. Why else do you ask for someone's name?) Ambiance Crowded entrance/ordering/waiting area, otherwise would be 5 stars

$1 for a slice of ham. No aioli. That's the best part of this $6.50 sandwich.

I will be back. But the sandwiches need improvement. No aioli, one slice of ham for a dollar.. let's wow the customer with 2 for the $6.50 price tag

We found this spot waiting on a volleyball game. It has the coffee shop feel and smell so that is always nice. The seating is cozy. I had the Chai Tea Latte which had a nice spice. The Ham Jam was great as it is a nice mixture of sweet and savory. They had one person in the kitchen so it was a bit slow but it was nice to sit and relax.

Stopped by while shopping. Great place to pop in for a caffeine pick me up. Ordered a salted caramel latte and my friend's daughter got a hot chocolate. Both were delicious. The baristas were friendly and fast.

I needed a place to swing by to get a couple hours of work done and get caffeinated, so I found Coffee Emporium! I definitely would come back for the vibes and drinks! Parking: The parking spots right outside the building have a 2 hour limit - not sure how heavily enforced this is in the Iowa River Landing. I wanted to stay a bit longer, but did not want to risk it. Ambiance: I liked the ambiance here. Plenty of seating, nicely decorated, and lots of natural lighting with big windows. It was a good place to sit down and get some work done, with plenty of outlets. There are tables as well as bar seating with stools at the windows. Drink: I ordered an iced chai latte. Solidly made, no complaints! It was a hot day and I needed to refuel, so it got the job done! Service: Quick and friendly. I had to ask for the WiFi password and they were more than willing to share it! Only complaint: It was a bit toasty inside the shop for comfort. I was not sweating profusely or anything, but I definitely got up a few times to stand in front of a fan. They have an air conditioning unit running, but it was still warm inside. It may have just been the one time I went, though. If you are just looking for a place to swing by and grab a coffee, this should not be an issue! Otherwise, I would one hundred percent come back!

On a road trip back to Des Moines and really needed a quality espresso (near the interstate)... unfortunately, this did not impress. I spend a lot of time and money in coffee shops and I was floored at how quiet this shop was. I was whispering in conversation, thinking I might be too loud. So if you want to work or read this might be a nice place! If you're there for breakfast or to chat, maybe not and kinda felt uncomfy. I was super disappointed that they weren't using homemade syrups... it really does matter and makes a latte worth the $6.25 price tag. Shaken iced espresso is always so much better too! Breakfast Sammy was good but not very big. Which is totally fine for a small gal but left everyone else a little hungry. Overall, would not come back even though the barista was a sweetie.

I was heading out of town and needed to get my coffee fix today. I discovered Coffee Emporium I did a typical map search and it was close by. I'm really glad I stopped in. Fast friendly service. Delicious food. Excellent coffee. Nice atmosphere.

This is an intimate coffee shop in a large shopping complex near a Von Maur store. The service is very friendly. The day that I visited this shop, they were out of espresso and had no less than four signs saying they were out. There are plants and wood tables with thin black metal chairs. The price was slightly high for my 24 oz cold brew with sugar free caramel, cream and splenda but worth it. The coffee is mostly smooth which is a huge plus for me. They also have sandwiches and a selection of magazines if you're one of the rare people who doesn't play on their smartphone. Highly recommended. 4.7 out of 5

I loved everything about this little shop in the Iowa River Landing! They weren't busy when I went in and the service I received was amazing. They had a variety of coffee, other drinks, and food options (I'll definitely be back to try something for breakfast). It was rather odd that when I went in they only had oatmilk as an option for milk, they were out of everything else. However, I like oatmilk so this was no problem for me. I'm totally ready to hole up here all day and drink coffee and study once school starts!

This is a really cute coffee shop with good coffee. The inside is very well decorated to make it welcoming and an excellent place to study or just hang out. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and it was a well-made latte but the flavor of the espresso was just okay. Overall, I had a good experience here!

The space itself is large and looks to be separated into two halves. I entered on the one side, ordered at the counter, just like you would at any coffee shop and waited. This place serves a full-service breakfast as well if you're looking for something more substantial (eggs, panini's, pancakes, etc..). I was just here picking up and bringing it back to our room. The coffees were fine, but there was only one gentleman working the counter, and he was a bit overwhelmed. He forewarned me that he had 4-5 drinks ahead of mine, so I ended up sitting there waiting for about 15 minutes for our two drinks. I wasn't pressed for time today, but if I was, this would've been an issue. I ordered a raspberry chocolate scone and a cinnamon roll. The scone was delicious. Not too sweet and was definitely made this morning. The cinnamon roll was delicious as well, but it was extremely sweet. To the point where it hurt your teeth. It would also have been better if it were warmed up. Lastly, they gave me this big cinnamon roll in a bag without any napkins or utensils?!? I had to stop at the free breakfast at our hotel to get a fork, knife and some napkins. So kind of a mixed-bag at the Encounter Cafe. I would give it another shot and try some other things, but it didn't blow me away.

The first day I had baked oatmeal with yogurt and it was a huge portion size that was very similar to coffee cake. The next day, I ordered the avocado toast and was surprised to see it come out, layered with egg and bacon and fresh tomato. Their lattes were delicious without being overly sweet. So glad I found this place during my trip. It is worth the stop.

The late hours here makes for a great alternative to the hubbub at Java House and there's usually parking easily found here. Great coffee, Kickapoo from Wisconsin, and americanos! I've been working my way through the loose-tea menu. Earl Grey is a staple for me and the blend here has a strong flavor. The Rooibos Chai is very good and doesn't have the Rooibos after taste that my tastebuds do not like. My only recommendation would be a dish to hold the leaves after an adequate amount of steeping time. I've taken to using the to-go coffee lids to hold the mesh strainer and tea leaves. I haven't had a chance to partake in the beer and wine selection, but hope to soon. There is a quite and extensive list to choose from! Staff has always been friendly and the background music perfect in the evenings. I love that the tables are larger than the usual small cafe tables. I can have a giant textbook and a notebook spread out while working. The loveseat in front of the fireplace is popular. One of these days i'll get to enjoy with a good book and a cup of coffee.

I decided to risk it and try it out anyway, because I was exhausted and their Bread 'n Butter latte sounded like the perfect pick me up. I got there and the guy at the counter informed me that they didn't have their toast, gluten-free bread, the Bread 'n Butter latte, or a phone number! Drink #2 -- Iced Vanilla Latte (Wonderful, really all I could ask for out of my favorite coffee order, not to sweet and excellent espresso taste. Rating = 8.4/10.) Service: No complaints on the service. The shop wasn't too busy so our order came out as expected with little wait! Ambiance: The location is unique - located in a neighborhood amongst what appears to be primarily college housing units. The building itself is really cool - albeit, quite small - and is decorated/themed with a lot of intention.
