The Rasta wraps are my favorite. They're like the best burritos you've ever had. The kind of food fusion that makes you mad no one else has thought of this before. I can never decide between the fries and the plantains. Both are top notch. The Island Boy pasta is equally delicious. Getting both the jerk chicken and shrimp in the same pasta feels like the kind of generous serving you'd usually only get at home. First time trying, and decided to order for to-go. Got their jerk chicken, jerk pork poutine and plantains. I expected the fries in the poutine to be a bit soggy since i bought it for to-go, but the poutine is still very good regardless - they put a bit plantain, so it balances out the savoriness with a touch of sweetness. Their chicken is also good, but the rice is a bit hard (maybe that's just how they typically serve it). Overall, everything is great. Would definitely come back again. read more

This place is awesome. Best plantains I've ever had, they were crunchy on the outside. The seasoning on the jerk pork wasn't too spicy and had a smokey flavor. I also tried the rice and cabbage which were both amazing. The owner was super nice, and deserves your business. Then owner had a food truck for 15 years and has been in this location for one year. Hopefully Yelp and Apple Maps updates the address but it's right next to Harbor Freight on highway 1. read more

I get the salmon wrap and it hits every time! Plantains are amazing, I always get an extra order. And the vybez sauce is *chefs kiss* phenomenal. Takeout is SUPER quick like under 15 min quick and dine in is also fast, with friendly service, and an atmosphere that makes it a fun place to hang out and have a drink at the bar. After tasting some leftovers from a co-worker, I grabbed some friends and went for dinner. I had the Island Boy pasta. It was divine! I had enough leftovers for two lunches. My husband enjoyed wings and fries. The fries were well seasoned. Our friend had a pork panini and said it was tasty. She also had a cocktail with sorrel that I tasted and would have ordered myself if I had known it was going to be more savory than sweet. We are looking forward to our next visit. Decided to grab lunch here, not too crowded for a Saturday. Restaurant looked clean, 5 or 6 tables and a bar to sit and eat. Menu had a decent variety of dishes, mostly sandwiches and wraps. Had the jerk pork, it came with rice and plantains.. Decent amount of pork on the plate, sadly, it tasted like pulled BBQ pork, not like jerk pork. It was bland for a Jamaican dish. The whole dish was covered in the sweet BBQ flavor, which bummed me out. Plantains were more like tostones, not tasty at all. Took a few bites, and got the rest to go. I ordered the jerk chicken rice and peas that came with cabbage/ plantains .! I highly recommend this place if you're looking for something different. The taste was perfect, I aslo tried out a couple different sauces bbq and chef secret sauce. Customer service was good , Ambience was clean they have TVs to watch sports with a full bar. I used to work in downtown Minneapolis where there were a hella lot of drop-dead-delicious food trucks. Blocks and blocks of them, every weekday, breakfast and lunch. Soo good. After visiting a few of the trucks around Iowa City, I came to the conclusion that they were all good but none of them were oh-my-god-I-can't-stop-eating-this good... but in drives Island Vybz. Vegetarians, go nuts. This place serves one mean vegetarian wrap. Just make sure you grab an extra napkin or ten and leave any self awareness of sloppy eating at the office. Carnovires, their jerk pork tastes as good as it smells. Whatever you order, get the plantains. We happened across IV on Ragbrai this year after hearing about the truck for a number of months. They are doing things they way they should be up in this trizuck! The rasta vibe runs deep here and while the choices are limited, they are boss! We had the Jerk Pork and a Jerk Chicken Quesadilla - both were unreal. The Pork was probably some of the best I've ever had - high praise from someone who A) lives in a state with 7x mores pigs than people and B) Feels pigs are all superheroes! The sauce that comes with it was incredible as well. Tangy with just a little kick and something that I admittedly drank a little of when I was done. The Jerk Chicken quesadilla was excellent as well. We've had Jerk in Jamaica and it's been amazing, but always with a little char (primarily because the stuff we had was cooked on some aluminum reclaimed from a roof) - this was perfectly done. Juicy, cheesy and filling. This place is the real deal and I'm glad we finally got to try it out, because we'll be back again soon! read more

I can't speak enough about the high quality level of the food that Island Vybz provides. The truck is beyond clean on the inside, which the owner is always willing to show upon request, and you can easily tell the pride that he has in his business. I ADORE Jamaican cuisine so I made a beeline for Iowa City when I heard about IV. I ordered the Jerk chicken and got Ginger beer to go with it. A little skimpy on the chicken portions but it was flavorful and the plantains were great! They give you a lot of rice and peas as well. I can't wait to try it again. I just wish they had curry chicken on the day I went. I'd love to see meat patties, roti, callaloo, curry goat and the like. I wish they'd get a building! I'll definitely be back.
