Everything was delicious + friendly service. The sandwiches were great & the soups were even better. Highly recommend the stuffed pepper soup!

A double order of biscuits and gravy.

I was near Crystal Falls, Michigan on vacation and planned to take a day trip to Pictured Rocks with my mother. I researched a place to stop approximately midway and found Negaunee, and was attracted to the name Midtown Bakery and Cafe. I was looking for some place that might have a quick breakfast and coffee menu. The place is in the downtown area of Negaunee. It is a small store, with limited seating and display cases, and on the Wednesday we visited it was busy with obviously local patrons. When we walked in the first person greeted us and said, "we have breakfast items but if you are looking for eggs, meat and a large breakfast we can recommend some other places close by." I assumed it is a regular question. We said we were looking for a quick meal and the options listed on the menu chalkboard were fine. My mother had a breakfast bagel and I asked for a double portion of biscuits and gravy. My mom enjoyed her sandwich and it was filling enough that she took a part of it with her. I was able to finish mine and it stayed with me until we could get to dinner later that afternoon. The gravy was definitely from a mix, and the bagel sandwich has a "baked egg" on it. I am not sure what prevents them from having a fried or scrambled egg on it. The service was a little slower than I expected, since there were only a dozen or so customers but I counted 4-5 employees. It was hard to determine which person was responsible for which duties. Two people seemed to take our order and then a third delivered the food. It was pleasant enough, and it fit our plans, but it felt like the Cafe atmosphere was an afterthought.

I love Midtown for desserts and lunches. When my daughter graduated from high school, I stopped in and told Mary Beth my plan for a pink dessert table and she made it happen! When my parents had their 50th, we got a lemon cake with raspberry filling. It was so delicious! My mom normally pushes food on all of us, but not this cake! She took the small piece that was remaining home for herself. It's got a daily special for lunch and the soups, salads and sandwiches are all yummy. Stop in for lunch or grab food and dessert to go! You won't be disappointed.

Excellent sandwiches. Soups, and baked goods. Their cheesecake is next level and you can get a dozen cookies for like $6. Yum!

Great people, great service , outstanding food!-don't forget the homemade treats ! Salads were fresh and serviced with house made dressings. The soups are made from scratch-I had the chicken noodle make this a great place on your schedule !!

1/2 Italian sandwich, macaroni salad, Diet Coke. Cost $13!

Sad and incredibly over priced! These previous reviews must be by the owners or family members. I literally left hungry. The 1/2 sandwich and macaroni salad couldn't satisfy a toddler. I firmly believe the economy is to blame but the offering was way over priced at $13!! Look at the pictures if you feel I'm stacking the deck here! The U.P. and the greater Negaunee area used to be a great place to enjoy with reasonable places to visit and eat. Today sadly, not so much.

Many tasty temptations to be enjoyed here!

My favorite item is the whitefish bagel. Our last stop before heading home last week, we wanted to get our normal. The whitefish was sold out!! The coffee was decent, not mind-blowing, but it did the job. The mocha was a nice treat, though! The real highlight of this place was the staff. The baristas were super friendly, making the experience feel warm and welcoming. It's clear they enjoy what they do, and it shows in their service. While the food was solid, I'd say the bathroom could use a little more attention. It wasn't as clean as I'd hoped, but it didn't ruin the vibe of the place. One of the coolest things about Fall Rock Cake is the bookstore aspect. You can browse through a variety of books while enjoying your coffee or meal. It's the perfect spot to unwind, especially if you're a book lover! Overall, great atmosphere, friendly service, and a good place to relax and grab a bite.

Well, we felt over-caffeinated and hungry so plans cha fed and we decided to order lunch instead. After finishing our delicious meal, we ordered dinner to carry out. This cafe is a local gem. Totally different vibe than Contrast Coffee's which was modern, sleek and seemed to attract lots of younger folks. Contrast seemed more to be the place one might choose with just coffee. A sweet treat or something light with coffee. MJC has a very up-north, laid back, comfy feel. It beckons you to grab a table or comfy chair and stay a while. Its vibe might resonate with families, friend groups, seniors, artists and health conscious foodies. The menu offered so many choices: soup, salad, wraps, paninis and pizzas. Many choices in each category, all with the freshest of ingredients, combined creatively, focused on flavor and presented really well for such a casual place. It had a farm-to-table feel. Confident the sauces and dressings were made from scratch. We ordered two wraps and a salad to share and were warned that it might be too much food for two. It definitely would have been. Thankful for this tip. We shared a summer special Mad Hatter panini with chicken, mushrooms and provolone. It was amazing. The mushrooms were perfection. We also shared a Central salad which was so full of delightful add-in like cranberries and cashews. The salad dressing was wonderful. As an after thought, we decided to share a bowl of the soup of the day: chicken and dumplings. So full of chicken, veggies and small dumplings. Delish. We took home a cold club wrap for dinner and the Lynne Lu salad. The dishes were wrapped with such care. We really appreciated the friendly and knowledgeable staff. If we lived here, MJC would be a go-to spot for breakfast and brunch. The homemade desserts looked fabulous. Will need to return on another trip to this area to try them with a mocha which brought us to MJC's

The bakery is amazing and it would be hard to select what to taste, except that I was a woman on a mission. I stopped in the week before Fat Tuesday. Placing the order was easy and took only moments to complete. I returned for Mardi Gras and the bakery was understandably busier. There were folks that failed to plan ahead, so their paczki pleasure was impacted. Me, I walked in, the same helpful person was retrieving orders and I picked up my pre-paid dozen quickly. The paczki were amazing and brought me right back to Michigan. The paczki we had in MN were good, but they aren't the same. And I've honestly never had paczki that were SO filled. And the fillings were so fresh, so perfectly balanced with the pastry. We tried six varieties (oof, yeah!) and loved them all. The prune paczki is an easy favorite, being traditional, but that Bavarian Cream was sublime. I was completely spoiled. It was fun that my first visits here were for 'holiday shopping,' which makes me look forward to coming back and trying more yummy baked items!
