Quick friendly service from the owner (!) who helped us first-timers with pronouncing the word. It's "past-eee"; like in the past. There are 2-3 small tables inside and a few outside the strip mall location. Drink options are bottled and self-serve from the cooler. Did a big takeout business while we were eating. Hubs and I were on a pasty hunt to compare different ones; this was our second. Lawry's is a small little shop which is basically take-out, not dine-in. This is the second pasty shop I came across that sells souvenirs, so if you want/need some, they have a few. The pasties come is 2 sizes. We went with the large because we were sharing it. The pasty dough was cooked well and held together until almost the last bite. We purchased a side of gravy here, which was a hefty $1.99 compared to 25 cents at another place. The dough was a bit dryer here, so the gravy definitely helped. Again, we got a beef pasty which was filled with potatoes, rutabaga and onions. I'm not a fan of onions, but I didn't see any, so I assume they were finely chopped and mixed in with the meat. Also, we were sent on our way with paper plates and forks, which was appreciated. When in Marquette, keep Lawry's in mind. They offer a decent meal which is great for on-the-go. 19/2025 read more

I saw Lawry's on a food network show about the U.P. and had to find my way to try it out. The young ladies behind the counter were friendly. I ordered a beef pasty and a cudighi. The flaky pasty dough was the perfect vessel for the potato and meat filling which was seasoned well but potato heavy and beef light. The cudighi sandwich was seasoned differently from the Italian sausage sandwiches I'm used to in the NE section of the U.S. The bread was soft and there was plenty of sauce and mozzarella cheese. It was good and I would buy both again. I also purchased some mini pasties to prepare when I return to DC. I loved the U.P. souvenirs for sale as well. read more

I grew up eating pasties so this was on my bucket list for this trip. I'm glad we stopped. Not quite as good as my Mom's but a close second. A nice mixture of ground meat, potatoes, rutabaga and onions. Lightly seasoned and baked into an individual crust. They offer two sizes 12 oz. and 17 oz. Since they are quite filling I recommend the smaller size. They are pre-made and kept in a warming oven so you don't have to wait for your tasty treat. Been trying Cudighi sandwiches from all the restaurants around the area and finally go to try Lawry's. It is the largest Cudighi sandwich I've had in the Marquette area. A very generous portion of sausage on the sandwich. The bread is toasted and is really good. I ordered the sandwich with the works, which includes onions, mushrooms. marinara sauce, cheese, and jalapeño peppers at Lawry's. The sandwich was a gut-bomb and was really good. It could have used a bit more marinara on it. I love jalapeños but they did not taste good on a cudighi. I prefer Italian Giardiniera peppers on cudighi as it has a better flavor balance (for the suggestion box at Lawry's). Service was really fast and friendly. My review is just for the cudighi and it rates 4.5 stars in my book. read more

Everytime we visit or bring our daughter to NMU I have to stop here. The classic beef pasty is always warm and delicious. We brought home the frozen minis for the first time and cooked them in the toaster oven. They were delicious and didn't last long. I wish I would have bought more! I too like mine with ketchup. My daughter likes the veggie one, but like another review says they don't seem to have those always ready or available. There are always people in this small place too.
