Best sandwiches and subs in town. Also their soup is amazing. Salad portions are large and with fresh toppings. They had to deal with being bullied and kicked out of a beautiful diner space, but they are making the most of their new space. They make their own bread and it is delicious. I ordered a French onion soup with no Swiss cheese.. I was very disappointed when I received my soup with half a slice of provolone... I also ordered half a sub and the meat barley covered half of the half sandwich, at first tasted like a veggie sandwich, it was suppose to be a New Yorker... This place is off the beaten path a little bit, but is well worth the extra two minutes getting there. I had the veggie hoagie and it did not disappoint. She made it on fresh, warm, homemade bread. What a surprise to find a little deli serving hoagies and other sandwiches and soup and ice cream and cookies, right next door to Midway Bait and Tackle, on County Hwy OT just afternoon it's intersection with US 35. Sort of out of the way except for locals, fishermen and birders. And serving hoagies to rival a sub from Fraboni's in Madison. The owner said she got the idea when she visited NYC, and I think it was a darn good one. I had half an Italian style Hoagie New York Style (double the meat!) It's served on an excellent fresh baked hoagie bun and that stack of smoked ham, salami, and pepperoni dressed with shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, red onions, swiss and provolone cheese, yellow peppers, and olive oil was more than enough fuel to keep me going on our daylong quest to find migrating pelicans on the Mississippi River. My wife had the Hickey and wild rice soup and pronounced it excellent. I asked if they'd ever considered serving Poboys and she told me they didn't want to get into dealing with a deep frier and all that it entailed--which is probably the Midway Deli gets a 96 out of a hundred health score, and saves the cook the extra work of cleaning up after the grease haze settles. We'll be lunching there again when we make our visits to Trempeleau. read more

5 out of 5 for a sandwich shop. Its a tiny spot connected to a bait shop off the highway. I ordered the New Yorker with everything on it. The whole sandwich was awesome but the homemade bread is the best part. I have no problem paying $8.50 for a sandwich like that but you could do a half sandwich if you want. My wife liked her soup but was jealous of my sandwich. We'll go back for sure. read more

Wanted this restaurant to be great but was greatly disappointed. Both the service and the food were subpar. When placing our order at the counter the waitress had no knowledge of the menu and struggled to enter our order. Also the waitress had to ask for help to enter their "box lunch" but it took two two attempts for the manager to begrudgingly lend a hand. It took over 10 minutes to receive our food - seems like a long time to make two sandwiches. The sandwiches are fairly well priced, although they were just average. The hoagie bread is dry and tasteless. Although the menu infers that a variety of ingredients are added to each sandwich (lettuce, tomatoes, onion, etc), this wasn't the case as the French Dip was served with nothing but bread and roast beef. To. Die. For...I've eaten a lot of sandwiches in this good life, but none better than their New Yorker! Hot with piles of corned beef, pastrami, and turkey on fantastic Homemade(!) fresh hoagie roll, with cheese, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers--my mouth is already watering on my keyboard. My wife loves the variety of salads....and the homade soup makes me think of my Mom back when I was a hungry young boy! If you're like us, you'll take a gorgeous fresh cupcake home! The Banana Split looks the prettiest, but my Peanut Butter Chocolate and my wife's Coconut Cream were simply the best cupcakes we've ever had. We've had the scones too and...dang I'm going back tomorrow!!! Service with a smile, pleasant ambience, and a fresh newspaper to mooch, it's simply the best! I've been here three times now and the sandwiches are great! The focaccia bread they use is tasty.

Nice little place. Just wish the beefed up their coffee menu and made real espressos and cappuccinos. Will stop again in near future!
