Out of business?? After purchasing two groupons for the concealed carry hybrid class, I registered for the range time to complete the course. I thought something seemed amiss when there was a single site for range time, and it was unavailable for 3 months. Given that this was a "hybrid" (online/in-person) class, I figured it'd be easy to wrap up the video and get to the range and renew my permit... That was silly of me. Apparently, this is a self-paced hunting class... You have to hunt for the online course, which is NOWHERE on the site, and THEN you get to hunt for the instructors/owners to determine if you can get any sort of support. I tracked down every lead I could find, and I decided that the class sucked because... I never DID find anyone to answer my questions. Emails? Ha! Phone numbers? I tried 5 of them that I tracked down; no answers or returned calls. To add to that, Groupon extends the class informally. When you ask for a refund, you are magically offered two paths: take groupon bucks (as worthless as this voucher), OR choose the dark path and try to be enough of a PITA to get your original payment refunded. As this was the third groupon I've bought for a business that very stealthily exited (even the BBB lists them as OOB) WHILE their groupon was STILL BEING SOLD... TBH, I should have known better, but I want to believe the best in people. Apparently, Groupon is out to teach consumers that is complete folly and your faith in humanity is better checked at the door. Current status: STILL hunting for a response from Groupon on a refund. I have refused "groupon bucks" a number of times, unless someone knows if there is a third world dicatator-state that uses them as currency? That's a better option than buying another groupon; at least I can bet the dictator will still be in power when I want to exchange my "bucks". Overall, this was ridiculous, and Midwest Carry Academy is a sham. Don't do it. Went to a conceal & carry class last month. I thought the instructor, a retired Ramsey County Sheriff, was very thorough and answered all questions. I'm sure I will go back for further classes so I am aware of any issues that could arise. Thank you MCA!! read more

Purchased the Groupon for this class, vendor would not recognize the voucher code. Won't answer emails and the phone is jammed not allowing calls to go through. I don't know what type of sham they have going on with Groupon but avoid both. I'm planning to contact the attorney general. read more

Bought a groupon, followed the instructions to redeem on their website and the site doesn't work. Kept telling me there was something wrong with the items in my cart. Tried different browsers, different things on the site, it never worked. Contacted them, was initially given a different url to use and a different code. Was able to do the online training but I wasn't able to set up the range test. Multiple emails, opened tickets, no response from them after the first exchange. I understand that websites have issues, companies get busy, but my bad experience with them lasted 3 months. I was more than a little patient. I finally had to cancel the groupon. Too late to get cash back, so I'm stuck with groupon bucks now too. Plus I missed the renewal date for my carry permit. Stay away from this company. Nothing but a bad experience. read more

I recently took the permit to carry certificate course, using a half off voucher (regularly $160). The class was simple, and the two teachers were well informed and good at answering everybody's questions. There was no test, other than shooting off about 10-12 shots in the two lanes they had reserved at the shooting range in the same building. They just watched for basic safety protocol and then handed out the certificates. People should know, that this class is only a prerequisite to get the actual permit, which is an additional $100, payable to the county (if you clear the background check). It was a full house and they gave out numbers in order of arrival for the final portion on the range. It would be wise to arrive early. It's listed as a 6 hour class, but the first 10 or so people to arrive were out in closer to 5 hours. If you're the last to arrive, you'll have some waiting to do. It's also a good idea to bring a gun, if you can. You can rent one there for $10, but you only get to use it for a couple minutes. The "range time" is VERY brief. read more

Just like one of the other reviewers, I too took concealed carry course with a buddy of mine using a BOGO certificate purchased through Groupon. The class covers the basics of carrying a weapon, from basic handling technique to personal responsibilities to legal obligation. Nick, the instructor, did a fantastic job. He kept the class moving along all while making sure our questions were answered. We had several people show up late and instead of interrupting the class to reschedule them, he kept teaching and spoke to the late arrivals during break. Well done. After all, why inconvenience those that did show up on time? The class is supposed to be 6hrs, but ours ended early because we had a bunch of no shows. I would advise showing up early so you get first crack on the range. As mentioned in a previous review, there is no test. Only a simple firing of a clip of rounds so you can prove you can handle a pistol. Pretty easy. The only piece left is to take my certificate in to the Hennepin County Sheriff's office to obtain my permit to carry. I will seriously consider taking another course through Midwest Carry Academy. read more

My Niece and I purchased vouchers for the class through Crowd Cut, which seemed like a pretty great deal. During the purchase, we were asked to pick a city from the list of where the hold the classes, we picked St. Paul. Afterwards we were told to use the website to register for the class of our choice. St. Paul was not on the list. Luckily, I live in Maple Grove and so we decided to choose the Maple Grove location. However an employee of the company called my Niece back after she emailed the company a few days earlier, and was told that if we signed up for the Maple Grove location, we may be subject to pay an additional fee because the location is "nicer than the others". After that conversation, the woman told my Niece that she would call her back when she found out for sure if the fee would apply or not. In the meanwhile, I attempted to call the woman myself and with no succession, I called the general phone number and spoke to Nathan who stated he was the co-owner of the company and he registered us for the class, because the website was not working to register for the classes while using the voucher... another headache. Nathan assured us that the fee would not apply to my Niece and I, and so we were a little weary when we arrived at the class, for fear that we would have a struggle to prove that this man said the fee wouldn't apply. When we arrived to the class, the instructor started about a half hour late because he couldn't get the projector to work, and after that, I found myself very intrigued with the lessons he was teaching us 9 students in the class. After the class was over, I was GLAD that we went through this company, which is where the first 3 stars derived from, but the 4th star was meant for the instructor of our actual class, because he made it exciting and interesting and engaged the class into his lessons. I purchased a course through groupon for this company. I tried to use the groupon and every single course they had offered was full. I contacted groupon about it and they said i could schedule for after the expiration date. Whats the point of buying a groupon if you have to wait over 6 months to use it? They said someone from Midwest Carry Academy would contact me to resolve the issue. Its been over 2 weeks and no one has ever bothered to contact me. They might have good classes but in this economy I would prefer to give my money to someone who actually cares about their customers. These people straight up scammed by putting these classes on groupon without the ability to even use them before the expiration date. read more
