First time going to Mike's for firewood. Easy to schedule a delivery on a holiday weekend. They came promptly and delivered a very healthy amount for the 2 cords I paid for. He put it where I asked which I appreciated. I used a moisture meter on some of the pieces and found much was at or below the 20% moisture level recommended for wood stoves. Nice hard wood. Not a lot of bark. It's been hard to figure out how to light it (small pieces and kindling help) because it's so dense. That's said, I'm happy. read more

Wood delivery in October, it's now April and its still wet and moldy. Just wasted an entire box of fire starter in a weekend just trying to get this going. My walls are dim and the stench is worst. My chimney maintenance company doubled checked the chimney to endure it wasn't that. Turns out the wood is still green after all these month. My son and husband are furious with the entire delivery. Never again. Racist. He's own staff have told me how ill they speak of Spanish people. read more

This is our first winter in our new home after moving from Northern California. I installed a new wood burning stove insert into our masonry fireplace to reduce the dependency on (and cost) of fuel oil for heat. I'm an experienced wood burner, and knowing that this is our first year and most of what I've already cut on my property won't be ready until year we decided to order a cord of wood from Mike's to supplement. I was pleased by the nice review that I saw, stating that they always receive a full cord and the quality of wood is good. Well, maybe two years ago that was the case but it certainly wasn't what I got. First, I was short 1/2 of a face cord (1/6th of a full cord) once I stacked my wood up. I stack in single rows that are 99" wide and 48" high. The wood appeared to be "seasoned" and I found that on a couple of fresh splits that moisture content was below 20%, which is what you want for a wood burning stove. However, I've been burning some of his wood the past couple of days and I don't think it's all in that shape. I'm getting hissing like crazy when I'm putting this stuff in the stove, which means that the pieces aren't all at 20% or below. Also not good as this contributes to creosote build-up in your chimney which can result in a chimney fire. Granted, we've had a fair amount of rain lately and it rained on Friday night after the wood was delivered. However, typically surface moisture dries in a few days after it's been stacked and won't impact the moisture content of the wood such that it's hard to burn. The wood was delivered a week ago Friday and I called their office on the following Monday to let them know I was short on some wood. The woman on the phone was very nice and helpful and asked if I could send some pictures and that they would make good on the full cord. On Tuesday morning I had sent them some pictures of my 2 1/2 stacks to show them I was short. (And at this point I hadn't burned any of the wood either.) I didn't hear back from them so I called them this Friday to follow up and the woman said that she would make sure the owner (Mike) called me before the end of the day. Mike called, but said that he didn't really feel that I was that short and that if I wanted the additional wood I would have to come get it myself or order another cord for delivery and they would add that to the delivery. Really disappointed in this as I paid $220.00 for a cord of wood that's been split and supposedly seasoned and I get wet wood and short. I would expect for that premium price that I would have gotten much better service than what I did. Needless to say I won't be recommending them to anyone and I don't even want the additional wood at this point because it will likely be more wet wood that will be hard to burn. read more

Unfortunately twice this year and once last year we've asked someone to come for an estimate and they never show up or call back. Recently had our lawn done and asked them to clean the property of leaves and twigs and that wasn't done fully or properly. Save your money. read more

Update 2/16/2016 - I use to think Blue Wheel was pretty good. Use to get multiple cords of wood from there every year and happy with the quality. Got a price from Mike to take a tree down without take away (I was very specific about it cause we burn during the winter). When the guys got here they were going to mulch it. Uh. No, told them what I told Mike and they did a good job. I was so happy with the job the workers did that I wanted to get an estimate to take some old pine trees down the same day. Mike came a few minutes later and he gave me an estimate. I had a budget in mind so I asked if he could do it for a little less, he didn't agree and it was fine. When I cut the check for the initial tree he got incredibly upset and said it was a hundred dollars more. I said "No, you quoted me the same price as a cord of wood, that's how I equated it, otherwise I wouldn't of done it." He left in a huff and said "Don't ever call me for wood again." I'm not upset but I think he should keep better records. Maybe he thought he was talking to someone else when he quoted me. I even ordered a couple cords of wood on the same day of tree cutting that wasn't delivered. Whatever the case is, I use to think Blue Wheel was great and even told a few friends who were looking for tree service about Mike. No more. On a positive note when he says he'll be there for a job he usually is, but who knows what price he'll give you when he's there. We get firewood from Mike every fall and he's consistent. If he gives you a time he'll be there it's always a full cord. If you have questions he'll answer them. I've not used his landscaping services but his prompt call backs and consistency says a lot. Ordered wood back in November. I set up the order a week in advance. Day of....they were a no-show. Called up and they told me they missed placed the order, but would be the next delivery. I ended up awaiting all day for them to show up at 4-4:30pm. Guess what... Wood is still wet. It ends up being a chore to keep then fire going because it's damp & smokey. Also the top of my chimney is now black with soot. I never had that in the 12 years I've lived here. I'll be looking elsewhere next season... read more

Stay far away from this company. Twice tried to overcharge me by saying they sent 3 guys for 3 hours (actually two guys for one hour). Ran over and broke the valve to my main water line last Memorial Day weekend, and had to wait for the following Tuesday for the owner to send someone over to fix. He couldn't have cared less that I had no water. Last fall when they were doing fall cleanup my gutters where not cleaned thoroughly and one of their guys fell off my roof. This Memorial Day weekend they never showed up to cut my grass, even though I called the office twice and was told "they are on their way over". I had a co-worker who had the same problems with them, and he stopped using them. I should have listened. Worst service ever. Owner is a crook. read more

Tried to make it work with this company. But, after receiving moldy old wood twice, over charged for yard work multiple times and than called a liar(for pointing out he over charged) it's time to move on. Mike's would always bill for more time than landscapers worked. Mike or manager would never come by to observe but he would insist the times/bill was correct. So much so, that he left a threatening message on my VM. Last project I corrected hourly work. As I was there and watched, I would know. In addition a couple of his employees took off for a couple hours and billed for it!!!! Stay away. Company has no adult/responsible supervision. read more

Have bought firewood from Mikes frequently over the last 10 Years. This year they scheduled delivery for "tomorrow" but then called to say they could do it today in 30 min if we would be there. We were, they did and as always the wood was just right. They dumped it (from a dump truck) right where we asked (some years we paid extra for them to stack it). Their wood has always been nicely aged to burn well but this year's is especially good. VERY well aged, split to a good size for a home fireplace. Our fires are sooo good that we do them even when there's not a lot of time to enjoy because it starts easily and burns perfectly. Thanks Mike! read more

Unfortunately the comments about how unreliable the service is are true. If you hire them to handle your snow over the winter be prepared for them not to show and not to return phone calls. read more
