My wife and I did the Mini Classic Bike Tour and loved everything about it. We had a limited amount of time in Munich and this was the perfect way to see as much of Munich as possible. For what you get, the price is very reasonable! Our group was a good size and very manageable to keep up with on a bike and a relaxed pace. We joined Tyler and Shawn for the Neuschwanstein Castle Bus and Bike Tour . What an amazing experience from the information Tyler and Shawn gave us along the beautiful country side on our 2 hour bus ride to our first destination were we disembarked for a ride to a nice lakeside beach. Shawn was off the dock and in the cool water first , watching over us as we dove into the lake . What a refreshing swim. Tyler was leading the bike ride on the small road back as Shawn followed bring ing up the last of us safely.Tyler also watched over us to make sure we all arrived to our fabulous lunch at the roadhouse style restaurant. A MUST in Munich!!! I did the Munich Sightseeing Bike Tour. I was a bit nervous because I'm chubby and was worried that I wouldn't be able to keep up with everyone, but I was in the front the majority of the time. The tour guide does a good job of keeping everyone together. Our tour guide was Kevin. He was energetic, enthusiastic, and entertaining. I could've done a 6 hour tour. Munich is a fantastic place to tour on a bike, with well-behaved traffic and bike lanes and parks. Our tour was similarly wonderful, with lots of sites and stories that would be missing from the standard tourist-rundfahrt or walking tour. We saw the surfers during jaunt through the park, and thoroughly enjoyed the Chinese (pagoda) Biergarten! The pace is leisurely but we still earned some food. I kept the bike for the rest of the day (a good deal!) and rode to the Olympic Park and BMW Welt as well. Enjoy your bike tour! read more

Usually one of the highest compliments I can pay a city is that it is walkable. And Munich falls into that category, but the day I felt like I really got to know the city was when I rented a bike. Mike's offers guided bike tours, but I was more interested in exploring the city on my own. The bikes are these ridiculously cute Cruiser-style pedal pushers. They give you a city map, a bike lock and you are off. There are a number of cities that due to their geography (hills), air quality or traffic aren't ones where I'd readily rent a bike. In Munich, it was an ideal situation. Not only is the majority of the city flat, but one of the major tourist attractions, the English Garden, is crisscrossed with trails and even the city streets have bike lanes. And the bike lanes are actually part of the sidewalk, not the road, so I felt very safe. This was the highlight of my trip to Munich. Ok so if you're a parent with multiple kids, think for a second about your favorite one. You know, the one that doesn't tell your wife about all the crazy stuff you let them do when it's just the two of you? The one who doesn't narc like the other one does. You know what kid I'm talking about. Now, think about how much you love that kid. That's how much my wife and I loved Mike's Bike Tour in Munich. We were broken up into groups of about 20, and the fact that we had multiple groups of 20 should already say something about what you're about to experience. Then, we were told that Scottie was going to be our tour guide. Poor guy got sucked in by a tractor beam some years back by some gorgeous Bavarian Goddess, and after leaving the states in the rear view, hasn't looked back since. Well if I ever meet this lady I'd shake her hand and thank her for sharing Scottie with us. This tour had everything. We started off with one of the other tour guides who was equally entertaining and was trying to get his fu man chu stash going but didn't quite have it yet(give it another month buddy you'll get there). He got the crowd fired up and dropped a few solid knowledge bombs on us. Then we split into groups and Scott got us all set up on our bipedal drunk wagons, assigned Joe to be our caboose, and off we went!! Hold onto your panties folks, this guy loves this city. You can tell simply by how he talks about the place. We made multiple stops, almost lost a few of the weak members to a small gang of one eyed newsies, and ended up at the English Gardens best beer garden. You could get completely lost in this place it's amazing. Plenty of nude old orange dudes sunbathing if meat gazing is on your to-do list. The food at the Chinese Tower beer garden was great. We had plenty of time to eat, drink and socialize, and then it was back to the 2 wheeled chick magnets for a quick cruise by this awesome man-made surfing spot. I first spotted it on a YouTube video by Rick Steves(respect). So it was cool to see it in person. After another quick stop and single ignition knowledge bombing, we were on our way back to the shop. Whoa! Did 4 hours really go by that fast? Dang! Time flies when you're having a blast as they say. I would just like to thank Scottie and everyone at Mike's for maintaining the top spot of high rated bike tours in Munich. They absolutely earned it. This is my second trip to Munich in as many years, and I'm pissed I didn't do it last year. As much as I've seen in this city, I never got the type of perspective they give on this tour. If you're afraid to break the mold; if you're afraid to yell out random things in public; if you're afraid to be called "the ass man", DON'T GO ON THIS TOUR!!! But if you want to be a little adventurous and do something just a little outside of your cookie cuter mold of what's normal, DO go on this tour! What fun! Our tour with Timmy (Timmah) M. and Mike's Bikes was the highlight of our all too short stay in Munich! It was ridiculously fun from the very start. Immediately you're doing a little dance move on the sidewalk just a few hundred yards from the Glockenspiel, and it only gets better from there! Our tour (late September, just before Oktoberfest), which I think was scheduled to last 3-4 hours, was more like 4-5 hours. We hit the highlights of Munich. I can't remember all of the sites, but they included the Isar surfers, the white church, the English Garden, and the Chinese Tower Bier Garten. FYI, if you ask the cashier at the Chinese Bier Garten about "buying" a souvenir glass, they may just tell you to take it for free! I got a.5L Hofbrau Haus mug for nuthin'! The ride itself is not strenuous but you need to posses the ability to leisurely ride a bike for a few miles. It's warm in the summer so you will sweat. You may also see naked men and women in the English Garden as well as one other stop on a bridge (the name escapes me) so leave your silly American modesty behind! Just let loose and enjoy your Deutschland adventure!!! read more

The castle and bike tour with Mike's Bikes exceeded our expectations and this was one of our best days on our trip to Germany! Hunter and Anna were great guides. Hunter gave a lot of historical background on the bus ride. I wish my history teachers had been as entertaining as Hunter, it made the nearly 2 hour bus ride fly by! When we arrived, we did a bike ride around the outlying areas which provided great views of both castles. It was an easy and beautiful ride. We then had lunch at a local brewery. The optional hike up to the bridge for a view of the castle provided beautiful scenery and a pretty good workout! Finally we ended with the castle tour. We did the Neuschwanstein Castle tour with Brad and Maaike and it was absolutely the best day of our 2 week Europe trip. We did the full bike and castle experience with my fiancé and sister as well as my mom. The bikes were easy to ride on flat roads, the lake we saw was beautiful and it was so nice to see some of the countryside and get out of the tourist areas. Lunch was delicious with a great view. The video on the bus was great at providing additional information about the castle in a fun way since the tour itself is censored and quite short. There were lots of options if you didn't want to bike, wanted to see other castles, didn't want to hike to the castle (we took the bus for a couple euro). Our group was a mix of younger couples as well as families with children age 8-16ish. Don't try to do Neuschwanstein on your own -- it's way too confusing and it's absolutely worth the small amount extra you will pay to do their seriously fabulous tour. Plus you get beers for 2 euros on the bus ride home. DO IT. read more

With just days to go before the launch of Yelp in Germany, we needed to step away from the laptops for a little while. And I'd been dreaming of riding a bike beside the Isar since my first visit to München. Enter Mikes Bike Tours. Before we left London, mein Deutsch sherpa called Mikes to make sure we could get bikes. He started the inquiry off in German but quickly switched to English. The same thing happened at the store so if English is your language of choice you'll feel right at home here. We got bikes only, no tours, and they were €12 for the day (which seemed an especially good bargain when we arrived in Berlin to find a day long bike hire would set us back €20.) Mikes Bikes are well-maintained comfy cruisers. One of the best experiences I've had since moving to this side of the pond was riding through the Englischer Garten just after it had rained. Literally one of the best highlights of our 2 week trip. This review is for Bus Bavaria bike day tour to Neuschwanstein castle. The bus we took was comfortable, was stocked with drinks, and even had a bathroom. It was lightly drizzling that day we went, but luckily we still biked around. Brad was hilarious and his magic tricks were mind boggling. Really enjoyed the day biking around Swan Lake as well as hanging out with people from the tour. So the confirmation email was the first way I knew this place would be good. It had all these little details, helpful reminders, contact numbers, the amount of cash to bring, and more helpful reminders. Basically they coddle you in a non-patronizing way leaving little for you to screw up (but they're prepared if you do). I went on the Neuschwanstein Castle day trip. Starts at 8:50 (2hr bus ride) and ends when you get back around 8. It is a long day and with the wrong employees it could be very forgettable. Thankfully Natalia, Brad, and even Mike (we ran into the actual Mike at the castle giving a private tour). Bus ride: beer, jaeger, water all on sale for cheap. There is also a water closet on the bus. Natalia talked for awhile giving some brief histories while we were still in the city and then later there was a video from Brad (who was meeting us there) about King Ludwig II, the castle, and his death. Very informal yet very educational. As you drive through the country you begin to appreciate the sights and simpleness it entails. Natalia told us how since Mike's Bike Tours books 60 tix a day that we were already good and that Brad had them in hand. This seemed standard to me.. But after arriving there it was clear why she mentioned it. He had to arrive and wait it the god awful lines for us. Very selfless and it freed up our day to: 1. Bike around the lake (and swim if you'd like) or take a cable car to the top of the mountain (19 euros extra) 2. Lunch - definitely good. Plenty of options. You select on the bus so they don't have to wait on you. Simple and easy. (Pay for what you eat) 3. Alpine Slide- kind of like luge but on a slide and sitting upright. It's a must. (2 euros) 4. Brad's magic show (aka card tricks). We all watched him insanely close yet he got us on about 8 unbelievable tricks. 5. Hike up to a rickety bridge for a picture of the castle 6. Castle tour (13 euros)-- NO PICTURES inside but you'll have had plenty from outside When I met Mike I asked why and how he got this started and he simply said "I watched people walking around not knowing where to go and not knowing what to see. A bike is the easiest way." Granted this wasn't a bike tour per se but tomorrow I have a Munich city tour. As for the castle tour-- solid 5 stars. Natalia and Brad were energetic, helpful, patient, and unselfish. This company will continue to well for a very long time. read more

We did the castle tour with four adults, a 7yr old, and a 2mo old. The tour guides, Ryan and Rich, were excellent. They were knowledgeable, entertaining, caring, and helpful. The agenda for the day was well thought out. There was multiple perspectives of the castle from the pasture on bikes, to the lake, to lunch, from Mary's bridge, up close and then inside; plenty of time for pictures at each. During a week long trip to Munich with group of high school students and a handful of chaperones, we decided to book a trip to beautiful Neuschwanstein Castle. From the moment I met Siegmund (Ziggy), I knew that we would get along, as he came up to the breakfast area and forcefully, yet politely asked "Are you ready for your trip to see some castles?!", getting the students to get a little pep in their step. Throughout the drive he was very knowledgeable sharing a great deal of historical information, ranging from the founding of Munich, Ludwig II and Richard Wagner's relationship to Octoberfest. Though not the best day for the tour, weather-wise or time of year, Ziggy's warm presence, sense of humor and professionalism made the daylong trip really enjoyable. His knowledge of the area, including the direct path up to the castle, where to get tasty bratwursts and even starting a snowball fight made the trip both informative and fun. Our trip up to Mary's bridge was full of laughs and our kids enjoying themselves in this idyllic place. His flexibility, from finding a great place for dinner, to being agreeable in our changing final plan, to a different drop off point helped us maximize the time we had on our final day in Munich. Spending the day with Ziggy was like touring with a long-time good friend who moved far away and you decided to visit. Next time I go to Munich, I look forward to getting on a bike and touring around with Mike's Bike Tours in the more traditional sense and if this first experience was any indication, there will be more fun and fond memories. read more

Last summer I embarked on a Eurotrip with a touring company. While viewing the itinerary I was not so excited to see that one of the activities in Munich was "bike tour". In fact, there is a good chance I might have chose to skip this if not for the fact that everyone else was doing it. Boy am I glad I decided to go through with it! On Tuesday, Oct 3, my husband and I did the bike tour at Neuschwanstein Castle. It started out as a rainy day and was a full on rain for the first half of the bike tour. We had lunch at the Schloss Brauhaus, which was really good and good value. My husband and I did the climb up to the castle. I do step Aerobics 3 times a week, so I'd consider myself to be in good shape and the climb was challenging. The leave were changing colors, so the scenery was beautiful!! The castle is beautiful and well worth the seeing. Our guides, Craig & Ryan, were both great. They gave a lot of information. They were funny and approachable and they definitely let us safe when crossing the roads. The tour was very well organized and the timing was on point. We had a man who was on the tour, who acted like an idiot and threw a temper tantrum and our guides shut down the drama. I appreciated the way they handled it.
