We had an amazing tour of the Dachau concentration camp with Taff. We were traveling with our three teenage kids, and he made sure that they were engaged and felt included. He carried large bags with him, and at different times of the tour, would pull out wonderful items to enhance the tour. He was patient with us when we wanted to spend more time at a particular place, and we never felt rushed. If you're considering a private guide in Munich, hire Taff! read more

We spent a wonderful day with Taff! I can't say enough about how informative he was. Everything was interesting and he even sent us emails before hand asking us how to tailor the experience to our liking. He took us around Munich in the morning, then we grabbed a snack at the train station and headed to Dachau. After the sobering personal tour around the grounds, we shared beers and trained home. It was great sharing the day with a local and hearing his passion for his work. Please don't hesitate to spend a little more and get a personal tour with him. You may not go here again, so make the most of it. read more

We completed a 3/4 day tour with Taff Simon in late May. My 16 year old son, who is interested in history learned enough to help him put together some missing pieces in his school curriculum. We started in the city at the roots of the National Socialist movement and then proceeded to Dachau before ending up back in Munich. Taff used artifacts and his jolly personality to engage with my son and me in a way I haven't seen before. Usually these kind of tours are pre-packaged and bland. Taff found a way to make history live for us with little known facts about sites and memorials that would be hard to find with another tour. It was outstanding, and I would do it again with the rest of my family! We had a great time. read more

Taff was great to work with and set up a private Macabre Munich tour for our group of 16. We had a blast! This was a very fun way to spend an evening in Munich, especially with a group of friends. read more

We offer exceptional walking tours in Munich and the surrounding area. We specialise in 3rd Reich and WW2 military history, archaeology and Medieval themes or can tailor a private tour to your wishes. We believe in using all the senses so expect to handle artefacts like ancient coins, replica armour and weapons, uniform pieces, original documents and photographs. We are also able to offer tours of the Dachau Memorial site with fully trained, tested and knowledgeable guides. Our private tours start from €320 for up to 5 people. Unlike other firms, ALL our guides have a background in history and heritage and have previously worked professionally in these sectors in roles as diverse as archaeologists, museum, theatre and film advisers. Dark History Tours was founded in 2008 by Welsh archaeologist David "Taff" Simon.

Meet the Business Owner: Taff S.

David "Taff" Simon was born in Cardiff, Wales and has a background in archaeology. His love of history can be traced back to his childhood. When not getting war stories from his grandfather who served on the Atlantic convoys, he had his head in history books or was watching the seminal documentaries like "The World at War". At the age of 15 he took part in his first serious archaeological excavation - and the rest, as they say is history. He was hooked. In 2000 he moved to Berlin where he worked as an archaeologist in the Berlin area. Living there gave him fantastic opportunities to interview important eyewitnesses of WW2, both Soviet and German, soldiers and civilians alike. He relocated to Munich late in 2007 and founded Dark History Tours soon after. Passionate about life-long learning, his aim was to make the past accessible, fascinating and above all, relevant.

Our only regret was that we didn't take the tour on the very first day we were in München. Ozzie did a wonderful job of taking us to places of interest, explaining the history and context of each location, and teaching us how to immerse ourselves into Bavarian culture. I've always known my ancestors were from Germany, but after taking Ozzie's tour I knew more specifically that they came from Bavaria. Back to Ozzie though, you can tell he loves his city and he loves Bavaria. You can't help but fall in love with his outlook on life and his city in the process. If I find out anyone is going to München, I will insist that their first activity is to call Ozzie and take a tour because it will make the rest of their trip that much more enjoyable.
