My wife and I were in Munich and we wanted to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle. We started the tour at 9:30 with our awesome tour guide Lana and I had a beer on the bus at 9:32. Awesome! The views are amazing! Lana had lots of great information on the way up and was quiet on the way back because a lot of people were sleeping on the way home. We got to drive on the autobahn and I saw lots of Porsches going at least 100 MPH. The castle was awesome, it is about a 30 minute tour and at the pickup spot you can grab a nice red brat. The have beer too. Definitely an awesome trip you should take and try to get Lana as your tour guide! read more

My mother and I booked Radius Tours' Neuschwanstein Castle day trip from Munich and had an excellent experience. The meeting point was easy to find and transportation was prompt and comfortable for the full ~9-hour round trip. Lana was our guide and easily one of the best I've ever had--witty, funny, and packed with idiosyncratic Bavarian facts. She kept us engaged and entertained the entire time, even including some adult only material. On the bus, keep your eyes peeled for cows, alpacas, deer, and CATS roaming the countryside. The city bike tour with this company was the highlight of the Munich leg of our trip. The tour takes you on a ride through central Munich and then the English Gardens, sharing facts about Munich's history, culture, and present along the way. We saw key sites for the resistance movement, learned more about pre-WWII history and rebuilding, and uncovered some how-tos with beer garden ordering. Tour guide was friendly and professional and bikes were well maintained. Please note the website say they have a 5'3" limit and they mean it - I am 5'2" and they had to improvise to find a bike that fit me. Would highly recommend! read more

We took two walking tours in Munich and they were both amazing! First we did the Explore Munich tour with Dani who was amazing! She was amazing at explaining the historical background and context of the sights we saw while on the tour. Then we did the Third Reich tour with Micheal who was also amazing! Micheal knew the history of the area extremely well and could answer any question you asked. Both tour guides obviously knew what they were talking about and were both very knowledgeable. Took the Dachau tour with Nic. He was a good guide and made sure his whole flock was accounted for through the bus and train ride and there were maybe 30 of us. The Dachau site was very somber and full of other people on their own guided tours and you get a walkthrough before being allowed to explore the religious memorials, museum, and gas chambers on your own. Don't underestimate how much there is to see. I had to speedrun the museum at the end since we were running out of time but you can easily spend your whole day here. read more

Very good experience. Took a tour to Dachau which was a somber but interesting historical experience. Our tour guide Achim was awesome. He was very knowledgeable about the memorial site and talked about his experience with talking to survivors as well as giving a tour throw the camp and the informational part of the camp. He allowed time for us to explore as well and made sure everyone was accounted for before moving on. He also took care of which train/bus we were taking and made sure everyone knew when and where to get off. If we are ever back in Munich we will definitely take a tour through them again. read more

Awesome and well coordinated tour to Neuschwanstein Castle with very knowledgeable tour guides. Jake was our main guide and told us all about the history and information. Stayed in Munich for 4 days. My mom and I took the walking tour of Munich, food beer tour, and the castle tour. All three tours were great. I would suggest to either do the walking or food and beer tour if you want to take a low-key day but if you want to see a castle you should do the tour. However keep in mind that the castle tour is long and will take up your whole day. The walking tour was great all around and definitely recommend doing it. We used these guys for a tour of Dachau. They use the system, whereby they utilize public transportation to get where they're going instead of having their own buses at least for this tour. It worked fine by utilizing the S Bahn and then the public bus in Dachau. The tour guide was very good ,very knowledgeable. Did a great job taking care of us, making sure we all got to where we needed to and also giving us tons and tons and tons of information in Dachau leading us through the various buildings and courtyards and telling us the story of this concentration camp. It was a little much walking for a number of the older people on the tour, I'm not sure if it lists on their information that you're going to be walking as much as they were, but a few of the older adults had a bit of trouble by the end of 2 1/2 hours in the camp. There were a few places that they found to sit down on the side, but unfortunately, this location just doesn't have much of that available. Can't blame that on Radius Tours. The guys in the office before we started the tour were very nice and were joking with everybody. That made for a fun start of the day. We got back about a half an hour later than they forecasted, this was mostly caused by having to wait for public transportation. But overall, a positive experience. read more

Dachau Memorial Tour We took the Dachau Memorial tour and were fortunate to have Jake, with Radius Tours, as our tour guide. Radius Tours apparently is a family owned tour company providing tours for a long time. Many signed up for tour so we were broken into small groups(~16). Jake was a great tour guide as he not only provided excellent descriptions of Dachau camp but more importantly provided the background and rationale for the Nazi movement. While the memorial seemed overwhelming at times, Jake was able to streamline the experience. He was easy to understand and was passionate about the subject matter, all which made this a very memorable yet solemn experience. read more

We did the Third Reich Tour with guide Josh. Josh immediately built a great rapport with the group. He spoke loudly, clearly, and utilized this massive portfolio of maps and photographs to pepper his lessons with visuals. His sensitivity to this difficult topic was noted - as a German growing up in the 70's he had a first hand experience of the German reaction to WW2 in the following generations. Josh also excelled at keeping our rapt attention - he is a natural teacher. He used Q&A to keep us engaged, and was adept at flipping his portfolio to instantly find the photograph of the loacation which we were standing - how it looked during the war. As a Jewish person who's grandfather's uncle's family was entirely wiped out at Sorbibor, this topic was sensitive to me - I am glad to have Josh be my guide and provide more understanding to this horrible chapter in human history. We rented bikes from you yesterday, Sunday August 11, and on the way back I was physically assaulted by one of your employees in the attached video, it is the person with the red hair. This gentleman may have been drunk and was very rude as soon as we arrived, the tone rose and when he spoke badly to my wife, I told him to apologize. Instead he left the office to try to bully me but as he was small and a little puny he understood that physical engagement would not be in his favor. So he tried to call the station security but never apologized. It is really a shame for your company to have employees like this person especially since we were so well received and informed in the morning when we took the bikes. I can only advise you to fire this person who is damaging the image of your company. read more

We took the day trip out of Munich to Neuschwanstein Castle and had a fabulous experience. Dan and Stevo were not only very knowledgeable but a lot of fun! We learned a lot of history and enjoyed the easy drive from Munich to Neuschwanstein in a ver comfortable bus with a great driver who brought beers and non-alcoholic drinks for the ride back to Munich. If you get the chance to go, I highly recommend the trip. And if Stevo and Dan lead your group, all the better! There is some walking involved including a lot of steps in the castle if you choose to do the castle tour (also recommended). read more

Had the World War II Walking tour of Munich with Josh today out of the Radius Tours office. Josh was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining in a tour that handles a difficult and painful topic: The Third Reich In Germany. Josh explained things very well and he provided a good perspective on the dramatic history. It was particularly educational for me to find out how many Germans resisted the regime. I did not know this. Josh was also very patient with some customers struggling a bit with the walk and he improvised solutions where possible. My wife and I had a great time at Neuschwanstein Castle. Lana was our tour guide, and she was excellent and very funny. She was very knowledgeable, and gave us a lot of context and background knowledge about the castle and king ludwig II. In addition, she helped take some awesome pictures in the most scenic parts of Neuschwanstein for each of the couples and families doing the tour. I would highly recommend Radius tours. A word of caution for those doing the neuschwanstein tour; some of the steps in the village before reaching the castle can be somewhat of a tripping hazard. My wife was surprised by a sudden step and hurt her knee. Just but just be careful when you walk about the village. It can be easy to loose your footing. read more

We did the walking beer tour and it was awful. We never set foot in HB, dinner at a famous beer hall was a bad restaurant, The museum was hot and uninformative. Mark went on irrelevant tangents and rushed us around over 3 miles with not so much as any history of the landmarks, and our walk didn't even take us by the pretty ones. He kept talking about the Beer Garden, but never took us through it or the market. I would not recommend this tour and will be asking the travel agent who booked this for a refund! read more

I chose Radius for the Dachau tour, and I was quite impressed. Jeff was our guide and he did a great job making the tour informative and as pleasant as possible. The tour started on time at the Radius office, located in the Hauptbahnhof train station. We took the S-Bahn train to the city of Dachau and then a bus to the camp. Once there, Jeff was great at explaining aspects of the camp and answering all of our questions. A person not in a group decided to stick by and listen; Jeff did a nice job pulling the man aside and explaining that it was a paid tour. To the point and respectful. I definitely would recommend Radius, especially to people like myself who don't feel very comfortable using European train systems without help! Did their tour of Dacau and Third Reich walking tour of Munich. This was a very informative tour. Seeing the concentration camp was a very powerful experience, and it was chilling to see how horrible people's living conditions were during the Holocaust. The walking tour was also very informative, and was a good way to get a layout and orientation of the city. During Oktoberfest we did the Dacau tour first, then an Oktoberfest tour, and ended with a Neuschwanstein tour. We did this through 3 different companies. Radius was my least favorite, but more than likely it's because of the content of the tour. All in all, it was still a very good tour. read more

Both tours were great and very, very informative. My only gripe was the from a fellow overweight tourist who yelled at the tour guide for walking... these tours have a lot of walking. The reviews I read before the tours stated there would be a lot of walking. When it comes to walking, be prepared to be a Positive Patty instead of a Negative Nancy. I walked about 15k steps between the two tours. Eric was the guide for the Dachau Tour. He is knowledgeable about the events that took place here and gave a good overview of the entire camp. These types of tours are not fun, but we need to remember the events. Eric laid out the information in a great way that was respectful and made a lasting impression. Iain was the guide for the 3rd Reich Tour. We walked to various places in Munich. He gave a good background of the history leading up to WW2. I appreciated his approach and was able to see many things I have read so much about. Both tours I learned so much! I booked through the Viator website... and it said "Neuschwanstein-Castle-Small-Group-Day-Tour-from-Munich" It was not a small tour by any means. There were issues with the trains.. which is not the tour company's fault... but the tour company had 75 people on our tour.. and their solution was to have multiple guides... some of who did not provide any particular service... or info. they were good for one thing, and one thing only... getting us to the castle and then back. The guide was did not provide any info, and was not helpful with the questions we asked, and help we needed. We did get to see the castle and we did bypass the lines.. which was the only nice part of the experience. i would not book this tour... unless your expectation is just to get there and back... read more

The tour starts at the munchen central station outside the radius tours and bike offices at 11.30. We were a small group of 9 people, all from Australia. We took a train to marienplatz. No audio guides were provided. However, the tour guide, Mark was easy to hear, had impeccable English (polished during his time in Australia and New Zealand over two years) and very friendly. On the train, he gave us a bit of background on why the nazi party is called the 'third Reich'. It is because the first ruling party was the Roman empire, the second was the German democratic government and Hitler felt that his party would rule for at least a thousand years so he called his party the third empire (Reich). After we got off the train, Mark said he wanted to start the tour on a positive note. So he took us to this area that has a Jewish museum, a synagogue, and another Jewish building. He said that before the Nazis came to rule, there were 12000 Jews living in Munich. Over the next 12 years during the regime, this number dwindled down to 84 Jews. He said that Munich now has around 10,000 Jews which shows that despite the persecution, the Jewish people returned to Munich and made it their home which shows Munich as being an accepting community. We then made our way to a building that used to house a Jewish shopping centre and operated until 1938. This shopping centre was damaged by the party after a polish Jewish man shot at a German after a law had been issued that all polish Jews had to prove their citizenship to the polish government. The party then thought that they could use this event to show that the Jewish people had started the war and hence what followed was the crystal glass night where they broke the glass of this shopping centre. There is a small plaque here that commemorates the family that used to own the shopping centre. The crystal glass night which was held every year on November 8/9th commemorated the failed coup by the party. Following this, we made our way to haufbrauhaus, which is now one of Munich's most famous and second oldest (said Mark) beer hall. The third Reich was formed in the banquet hall of this beer house. We passed a few more buildings that used to house the third Reich headquarters. A lot of these buildings were bombed by the British and now have been reconstructed. For instance, the 'brown building', which was the fuhrerhaus, now holds jazz concerts (music hated by the leader of the third Reich). The tour ended close to the munchen central station. Mark was very knowledgeable and showed us photos of what some of the buildings looked like before they were bombed. However, for 2.5 hours, I somehow expected more information, more buildings, and more insights. He also told us about the first man who was not associated with a political association but was merely a carpenter, georg, who put together his own contraption to kill the leader of the third reich, but missed the timing by thirteen minutes because Hitler decided to cut his speech short that night as he didn't want to miss his flight to Berlin. Mark then told us about sophie han scholl who was a member of the white rose and distributed pamphlets at Munich university against the party. She was later tortured and killed. There are German films associated with both events, which Mark recommended to us. I thought the tour was good but was lacking enough information and sights. I feel like I could get this information from reading online. Yes it was good to stand in some of the spots and hear about their important references but it wasnt enough for me. read more

This is for the Neuschwanstein Castle tour, however it is not for the actual tour of the castle because your "tour guide" through Radius does not actually guide you at all. They are simply a chaperone to get you on and off the train, and show you where the trail starts to hike up to the castle. You absolutely feel rushed through everything, and this was a huge let down for something that was so looked forward to. The tour itself was terrible and I have rated that in a separate review. Do yourselves a favor and book the train tickets and castle tours on your own so that you can go at your own pace. And pay attention to the weather. It was negative temps (celcius) with 40 mph winds which isn't out of the ordinary in the winter. We we're soaked and chilled to the bone after the mile walk up and down from the castle. read more

I just also, highly recommend, you avoid booking any tour with RADIUS TOURS. Yikes, this company is far from what it advertises. The tour organizers are far from organized, they hold that mildew like attitude of "hey, we don't need your business. We will sell tickets whether you book with us or not" the tour itself is less then basic. Its too long for what you pay, im bummed about this one, but highly recommend you look at other tour companies. Do come to Munich! Don't let this one tour group company stop you from taking tours in the city! (Just don't do it with these guys) they pride themselves on being recommended by "rick steves" which was back in the 90's. We just took the tour to Neuschwanstein Castle. It was wonderful. The weather was raining and misty but I thought that added to the magic. Charlie, our guide, talked just the right amount of time - giving us space to take in the scenery in peace but still giving us plenty of history of the castle and King Ludwig. Charlie's tip to try the Munich "Donuts" on the walk up was much appreciated. They were delicious. Also his tip to walk to the lake at the end of the village was perfect - a beautiful spot. He also helped us find a great Indian restaurant at the end of the tour. Amazing guide!! The tour inside the castle was too fast and the guide was not as interesting but there is nothing you can do about that - it is separately run by the state and not this tour company. Please be aware that there is a LOT of walking. A 20-25 minute walk up to the castle, a 10 minute walk to the bridge to see the view of the castle, all fairly steep. Then all that again heading downhill. Bring tennis shoes or hiking boots. read more
