From day one, Halsten Apartments repeatedly tried to slip in bogus charges during my tenancy. Every single time, I challenged them, proved they were wrong, and they quietly backed down without apology. It was a pattern of behavior, not an accident. The manager, Matt Vasquez, is unprofessional and dishonest. He routinely made claims about "lease provisions" that simply did not exist. When I asked him to show me the exact section, he couldn't. He would just insist it was "in there," which it wasn't. His conduct was not only misleading but often outright illegal. He acts like someone who peaked in high school and now abuses a small amount of authority. Health and safety are an absolute nightmare. The ventilation system in my unit was contaminated with mold, and it made me seriously ill. I repeatedly notified management and asked them to address it properly, but they ignored or dismissed my concerns. Breathing in that environment left me extremely sick. Instead of taking accountability or sending qualified remediation, they downplayed it and deflected responsibility. Living here literally made me physically ill. Security is just as bad. I had a dangerous stalker trespassing on the property, and management did absolutely nothing. Instead of helping, they confiscated my Ring camera without permission, a blatant violation of the lease and my privacy rights. When I told them about the trespasser, their response (attached) was basically: "Call the police, we're not putting ourselves in danger." There was zero concern for tenant safety or well-being. To make matters worse, the hot tub has been broken for over a year. Despite countless follow-ups from residents, management never fixed it. Their excuse was that it was "too complicated" to repair, a laughable response given the rent prices here. It's a perfect example of their laziness and total disregard for the amenities they advertise. The only positive thing about this complex was the maintenance team, who were professional and responsive. Everything else was an absolute disaster. I have never had a more horrific rental experience. Between the mold, the dishonesty, the illegal conduct, and the utter disregard for safety, this was by far the worst property I've ever lived in. Do yourself a favor and never live here. Most of their positive Google reviews are fake and/or paid for. They don't reflect the reality of what residents actually experience. Most importantly, don't believe any fabricated response to my review.

The maintenance crew Dan and Andrew deserves just as much recognition. They are responsive, skilled, and take real pride in their work. They have made a huge difference with the property in such a positive way. Requests are handled quickly and thoroughly, and you can tell they truly care about keeping the property beautiful and safe. It's rare to see this level of dedication and follow-through. This isn't just a place to live, it's a community built by people who genuinely care. And that makes all the difference. From the moment I moved in, it was clear the apartment had not been properly turned. The condition of the unit was unacceptable. Every drawer in the kitchen and bathroom had hair and crumbs inside. There were dirty tweezers left in a bathroom drawer, and even a rat trap sitting under the bathroom sink. On top of that, there was a thick layer of dust on light fixtures, the carpet was heavily stained and damaged, and the bathtub needed resurfacing. I documented and reported these issues right away and was told to submit a work order for each issue. The biggest issue, however, was ongoing noise disturbances from a neighboring unit. This wasn't typical apartment noise. It was loud, bass-heavy music from a stereo system that caused my walls to vibrate and shake, often during quiet hours late at night and early in the morning. Over the course of several months, I sent multiple written complaints and called security numerous times. Each time, management told me they would "talk to the resident" or "look into it." At one point, they told me they were pulling records of all my security calls. Despite this, I never received any follow-up, documentation, or confirmation that anything was actually done. I still don't know if security ever showed up. Nothing was resolved, and the disturbances continued. When I finally made the decision to put in proper notice (according to the lease agreement) to move out because the situation wasn't improving, I was then charged a lease termination fee and additional move-out charges. This included carpet-related charges, even though the carpet was already damaged when I moved in and I had reported it. They breached the lease agreement and I'm stuck with this on my credit report. My only option now is small claims court. What stood out the most throughout this experience was the lack of accountability and follow-through. Management repeatedly acknowledged the issues but did not take meaningful action or communicate updates. There were multiple opportunities to address these problems early on, but they were consistently missed. If management wants to improve, they need to: - Ensure units are actually clean and move-in ready - Take resident complaints seriously - Follow through and provide documentation when issues are reported - Enforce lease terms consistently for all residents I will be including photos to reflect the condition of the apartment at move-in. I would strongly recommend video documenting everything if you choose to live here.

Through all of the issues, both Macy and Danielle consistently took the time to listen and acknowledge my concerns. I never felt dismissed by either of them. They kept me updated throughout the process, often calling or texting to make sure I knew what was happening, and always made me feel respected and taken seriously. While my overall experience has been mixed, I would absolutely rate Danielle and Macy 5 stars for their professionalism, responsiveness, and care. If it weren't for them actively stepping in and following through, my experience here would have been extremely difficult.

When we first moved in, we loved the 1bdrm layout. We also had a good experience the person that we worked with, Nathaniel. We were given 1 parking spot and my husband was left to finding a guest spot. We quickly noticed how guest parking filled very quickly. After a couple months, we were able to get another parking spot. After about a year or two, they changed almost HALF of the guest spots to electric charging stations which really made guest spots EVEN MORE challenging to find. After about 3 years in the 1bdrm, we moved to a 2 bdrm...BIG MISTAKE. About 1 month in to this 2bedroom apartment, we started to have issues. Since this was a top floor unit, something started leaking causing mold to grow. We had to completely move out of the primary room. It was fixed, but absolutely no compensation from the leasing office whatsoever (meanwhile they were using the electricity that we pay for to "dry" out the affected area). About 4 months later, the same exact thing happened. And once again, had to move completely out of the primary bedroom and no compensation from the management. (DO not rent a top floor unit!) Also, we had a garage included with this apartment and that included a tandem parking spot which was a huge pain. Another thing to note, this place isn't secure. They have gates all around but they don't work. They haven't worked for at least 2 years. All of the pedestrian gates are also all broken. I have physically seen a car with broken windows and a resident filing a police report. Also have heard of residents getting things stolen out of their garage. The apartments are in need of a refresh. The floors are uneven and the windows aren't sealed letting in air from outside, racking up the AC bill. The amenities LACK completely. They have a "movie theater" with uncomfortable furniture. And there isn't much green space to walk your dog (other apartments in the area have fenced in dog spaces). The pool is nice but there isn't enough furniture since it fills up fast. As we moved out, we were hit with lot of extra fees essentially to try to get as much money from us as possible. Although this place is affordable for the area, I wouldn't recommend it.
