This was an interesting place that gave me many lessons about life while living here. Unfortunately, my experience with the management was very confusing. The condo was in my name, but during the two years I lived here, no one from management ever contacted me directly about paying the mortgage or sending statements. Instead, all communication went to my boyfriend at the time. He later told them to remove my contact email, so I never received any mortgage statements myself. The point is that he was just my boyfriend at the time, yet they communicated with him instead of the actual owner. Another difficult part happened during the move-out process. I hired a moving company to move heavy items, and because I wanted to avoid damage and also save money, I personally went back and forth with them and supervised every single item being moved. The move itself went very carefully. However, after we moved out, management claimed that there was major damage to the hallway wall and withheld the security deposit. I asked if I could see camera footage or evidence of the alleged damage, but I was told the move-out process was already finished and I could not access the hallway to verify anything myself. I am not refusing to pay for legitimate damage if it truly occurred. I simply believe that residents should be able to review clear evidence before being charged for something like this. This community has many older residents, and I truly hope situations like this are handled with transparency so everyone feels treated fairly. The movers who helped me worked very carefully, and I hope they were not unfairly blamed for something they did not do. We only moved a few pieces of furniture and were careful not to hit the walls. I simply believe that if money is being taken from a deposit, proper documentation or proof should be provided. Yes , they took $200. When moving out of this condo, make sure to record everything and take photos of everything carefully. read more

The security need to go bunch of jerks, we were actually touring the place with intentions to buy and they were very rude about parking it was a blazing hot 105 degrees and our realtor had us walk when there was car access right near the apt condo. This condo complex is truly an oasis in the middle of hectic Scottsdale/ Phoenix metro. It was built a while ago, and back then they valued the human experience over profit. So the buildings are spaced far apart. There is abundant green space and a golf course, multiple facilities and pools, and an overall peaceful vibe. My unit faces Camelback mountain and makes for epic sunset evenings on the patio. Some people leave bad reviews when the HOA managements changes things, but people always complain when there is change. Obviously the HOA only makes changes to improve the property and living experience. I love my little condo here; have owed it since 2014. read more

Incredibly frustrated with this apartment complex. We moved here in back in 2022, and we were explicitly told that the HOA fees would not increase. Surprise, surprise--those fees have gone up several times since we moved in, about a 30% increase each year. Feels like a bait-and-switch at this point. To make matters worse, there are neighbors with a serious roach problem that has now infested our unit. We keep our place spotless, so this is absolutely unacceptable. We understand that Old Town has a sewer roach problem, however, we have both German and sewer roaches here. We have also been told by other tenants in other buildings that those buildings have a roach problem as well. Management hasn't done a thing to address it, and we're now stuck dealing with this nightmare. Overall, I regret moving here. You could improve things greatly by having an office staff that is pro resident and available. Automated apps aren't for everyone and find it impossible to reach anyone! Association is out of control, too! Charging for things by mistake and impossible to track down to correct. I get they are voluntary positions, but too much authority and totally one sided. My family first bought a Scottsdale Shadows Condo about 1977--27-509. When Hayden Rd. changed from a 2-lane to a noisy urban thoroughfare, they sold that Condo and then bought in Building 24 in 1992. For years the place was run well, but recently there have been heating and cooling issues. Now, leaks and asbestos contamination have made this a good place to stay away from. A hall blocked (as you can see) by a "decontamination structure" (if you used a wheelchair, you would be captive in your condo for "the duration.") Warnings about asbestos and the noise of hammering on the walls all make this a "scene from Hell." (I do have recordings of the noise.) No warning of the impending disaster from management and no assurance when relief will be coming. And some concern that perhaps the entire building needs asbestos abatement when water pipes are replaced. read more

You are ignored as to how the HOA will fix issues, too many times we are shut down or silenced when we report maintenance problems, and or the HOA dismisses it. Whoever Betty F is stating she loves the place, how sweet of her to say that, however, it is obvious that Betty F does not live there 24x7x52. Or...she is in denial about the major issues in the buildings. These comments are "reviews" and are real, truthful and factual not complaints as she puts it. It is a shame however that the one of the best places to live in South Scottsdale has turned into a concerning place to live, especially over the last several years. Not only roaches as others stated, but not ADA compliant, and with major issues with the water and sewer pipes leaking. The HOA dues in most of the associations and there are 7 of them, are an average of $650 per month up by over $200 in a few years, with no resolution to most of the problems so where is the money going? If you decide to buy a condo, get a disclosure with any maintenance or updating that was done in the unit before you sign that contract. Otherwise you are stuck with the problems moving forward after the purchase. Even if an investor is the seller, there must be disclosures what maintenance was done in the unit even though they never lived there. Any work done in the unit is recorded and documented by the HOA so they must know about it. read more

I just happened upon these derogatory comments on Yelp about Scottsdale Shadows and find them very misleading. I've owned a condo here for over 20 years. It is a second home with our primary residence being in Utah. The complex is old BUT...very well maintained. With age, anything will begin to need updating. I'm seeing constant activity in keeping this property maintained. Are there issues from time to time? Yes. However, the biggest issue I've experienced is people complaining about nothing. I called to ask one simple question and the receptionist in the administration office had a rude tone, cut me off before I could finish my question, and keep repeating herself while talking over me. Not to mention the sewer pipes corroding and the stench of sewer in units and hallways. Time for the sale contract to add disclosures about these problems. Scottsdale Shadows is a great place to live if you're looking for a leisurely lifestyle. The location is super convenient- 78th st and Camelback. Just down the street from Scottsdale Fashion Square, many, many restaurants, bars, and hotels, and quite a few grocery stores to chose from. Not to mention the Le Cordon Bleu culinary school across the street! Although it used to be a retirement community, it's been open to all ages for over 15 years. The grounds are kept up very well. The security staff is friendly, and they are always there! Majella is especially helpful. The office staff does a great job too, especially Lori! Besides the 9 hole golf course, there are plenty of ammenities. 3 pools in the complex, with newer bathrooms. Soda machines throughout the grounds, a library, his and hers gyms at the main pool, tennis courts, lawns with benches to enjoy nature (great views throughout) meeting rooms, and more. They hold several events throughout the month that are either free or low cost, or outings to fun places out of town. There are elevators in the buildings, so don't worry if you have a lot of stuff to bring in and live on the 6th floor- there are carts for use, as long as they are returned! There is even a free shuttle a few times a week to take you to local stores if you don't have a car or even just want to go green. The Camelback bus stop is just outside the property, and the Hayden bus stop is right across the street. The bike path is also right there at Hayden and Camelback. I've lived in quite a few places over the last decade (8 or so) and I have to say Scottsdale Shadows has been my favorite residence so far. The grounds are incredibly well maintained, there are always a ton of activities going on, and all the staff and residents I've encountered have been helpful and friendly. The location is great- its close enough to Old Town for a night out with a $5 uber ride but far enough away to have peace and quiet during crazy events. The Shadows is within walking distance to Sprouts grocery, Zipps and Clancy's sports bars, a sushi restaurant, and Tj Maxx. Score. There is a bit of an older crowd, however, it seems a lot more people in their 20s/30s have been moving in over the last few months. read more

This used to be a retirement community only but in the last few years they have changed some of their policies and letting younger people in. Has 3 different pools, hot tubs, tennis court a gym plus a workshop metal shop Library and other amenities. Plus a mini 9 hole 3 par golf course. plus a nice summer bonus you can park Underground and escape the broiling Sun. Almost all of the apartments / condos have great views of either Camelback Mountain or looking North. It is right down the way from all the bars and cool arts district but far enough away where you do not hear it. A simple $5 Uber ride and you're right in the mecca of it all. 24/7 Guarded security gate. The grounds are well-kept and the staff is friendly. read more

We recently moved to Scottsdale Shadows. This is our first time in a condominium, WOW! We love it! The grounds are lovely and the complex offers many activities. It's very convenient to have underground parking with easy access to the elevator to our unit. Everyone is helpful and friendly. We love how close we are to Old Town, shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Can't wait to show off our new home to family and friends! read more

Dig living here, quite and gated which is nice. They have a free 9 hole golf course around the property that I don't use nearly enough. Three pools, two hot tubs and gym that I neglect as well but it's nice knowing it's there. My place over looks the tennis courts and I have a view of Camelback mountain, very nice. Scottsdale shadows condos represents the best hidden secret in all of Scottsdale. My wife and I bought a 2 bedroom unit in 2011. We remodeled to suit our tastes and have thoroughly enjoyed it as a second home. Services (maintenance, upkeep, security, amenities) excel. We always look forward to coming to the Shadows. We have found that the staff is most helpful with any situation that might occur (it is a rare event for problems to happen). Our guests always comment on the cleanliness and upkeep of the grounds, and the management is always improving the property. Compared to some of the condos in the area, in particular to some newer units in Old Town, the Shadows is a veritable bargain, and offers tons more amenities than any Old Town condos. I have lived in an number of condominiums over the years, and this place takes the cake! I can't imagine living any where else in Scottsdale. As it says next to my 5 star rating, "Woohoo! I moved here from California in May and am really happy here! The complex is well taken care of, the grounds are amazing! I walk early and late to beat the sun, and it's so safe here. It's gated and there are always guards in golf carts driving around making sure all is well. I have an awesome view of Camelback and am in front of one of the pools, it doesn't get any better! I have always lived in apartments/condo's and like the lifestyle. There are occasional squabbles with neighbors but that happens everywhere, no big deal. It used to be an age restricted community but now all are welcome! It's diverse, and all age groups are here. I really like it and you couldn't want for a better location! Stores are close by, Old Town, it's really in the center of where you want to be. But since it's gated and sits on a ton of land it's like being in a resort. You have the vacation vibe here.
