SOO today was my daughters 1st photo shoot. I called this morning he was nice enough to make the arrangements to take us in same day. The experience was great and the studio is very nice. I then went back into the studio to see my proofs and choose my free digital picture. It's super easy to schedule a session and they totally understand working with young kids - they are flexible on session timing and you don't feel like you are rushed like with some other places I have been. A few years ago I had the delight of being around Kate as she was doing wedding photography, and when I saw the end results, I knew she had amazing work! She was also super friendly, and her energy and demeanor seemed like it would put any couple getting married at ease! My wife and I were looking to do a maternity photoshoot since we were awaiting the birth of our second child, but unlike the first go-round, we would now have a rambunctious almost 5 year old that we also wanted in the pictures. We were hoping for great, memorable pictures, that knew we needed a photographer that could have the creativity to produce great results while working with our very independent little guy with his own ideas. Kate was perfect for the job. She had the perfect blend energy to match our 4 year old's, and mellowness real in back when we needed to focus on getting the shot. She provided some items to help keep him occupied so we could get those very special photographs of just my wife and I, and when it was time for him to be in the pictures, she managed to get him interested in posing for the pictures and following directions. She snapped off a ton of pictures and I thought at the end, we would end up getting some good ones, but there are really so many that looked outstanding! Kate really shined when it came to taking pictures of our son by himself, and the results were glorious! The group shots were fabulous too, but she had really done such a wonderful job at making our son feel like becoming a big brother is the best thing ever and brought out the biggest smiles. We were first introduced to Milk and Lily during Halloween and amid all of the chaos of the free session we still had a great time and David was able to capture an adorable picture of me and my daughter. We ended up coming back for a cake smash session and can I just say Kate's response time to get it scheduled was QUICK! It was a great session and got some amazing photos. This is the fourth time that we have done pictures with Kate (wedding, maternity, new baby and now one year pictures), and as much as I want to say each time was better than the last, they have all been wonderful and amazing experiences. Have you ever gone somewhere saying you were just going to drop in for 5 minutes, but then you end up spending the rest of the afternoon there because it was so much fun? Well, that's what happened when I first stepped into Milk & Lily. I walked in with my 3-year-old daughter intending just to peek in and check out the studio before meeting with my husband and our other daughter. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the kindness of David and Kate. My 32-week pregnant belly and I took a seat on the couch as they entertained my 3-year old who was comfortably making herself at home with the books and blocks while I perused the amazing photographs and albums of weddings, family photos and newborns. I immediately knew why the photos I was viewing were so natural, genuine and full of personality. It was because when you are with David and Kate you can just be yourself. They are sweet, funny, creative and just love their craft. By the time I called my husband and 5-year old daughter to come to the studio I had already decided I wanted to have a family maternity shoot done there. I had no intention of doing a maternity shoot, but with David there to take care of us I felt like it would be a missed opportunity not to. Two hours, 2 cups of hot chocolate and lots of laughs later, we walked out with a maternity family photo session on the books, along with a separate newborn session. Fast forward a few weeks later to the maternity family photo shoot...it was like hanging out at your friends house! We ate donuts, blew some bubbles, jumped around and laughed some more. All the while David was working his magic and taking these amazing shots as my family and I just moved from one thing to another without any awkward posing or forced smiles.
