We had the pleasure of having both of our kids photographed by Karen. We booked cake smash sessions for our daughter and four years later (because she was so awesome) booked her again for our son. Before our sessions, I had specific themes in mind for each child. Karen was so wonderful to work with and responded to emails in a timely manner. She is an open collaborator on things like dress, set decor and themes. We arrived at her studio and both times, she had everything beautifully set up! Her studio space was perfect and included everything we needed to make sure our kids were comfortable - she even had some toys to entertain our older daughter while our son was being photographed. I normally don't review places twice, but I HAD to for Karen. She's the best period. Anyone who knows my boys knows that it is a lot of work to get them to sit still and capture an image. Karen did just that and more. She was fully engaging, has great attention to details, has an incredible amount of patience, and takes the most amazing photos. She has great COVID protocols, is fully vaccinated, and takes every precaution while maintaining high quality photos and service. Karen is AMAZING! Stop reading and book her I think we have found our forever family photographer. First she takes COVID very seriously and implemented proper safety precautions so we all felt safe. We just left her studio after doing our sons 1 year old smash cake session and we are so impressed in so many ways! She was wonderful with our son yet personable with my husband and I as well. She made us all feel comfortable in front of the camera and it all felt so natural. She also would fix my hair and made sure my husbands pockets were empty for our family photos, which I think most photographers would overlook. So small yet important details like are what impressed me. She was also so helpful when we were cleaning our son up from the smash cake and had everything we needed which I appreciated very much! When it comes to photo shooting, I always have lots of desires which I know sometimes can be overwhelming for photographers lol I found Karen for my son's one year old photo shooting because I really loved her creativity and stylish sense after looking through the photos on her website. As expected, my experience with her was just wonderful! In the first couple of emails, I shared with her some my ideas around the themes I was having in my mind. Since the themes I wanted to do were not the most common, I was actually a bit concerned if my words made sense. She responded quickly - completely understood what I meant and added some great advices to help build the theme. She described each single piece clearly such as backdrop, props, colors, process, etc to ensure they would match my expectation. It was such a smooth and delightful communication that made me like her even before I met her!:-) Her studio was right by her house in a cozy neighborhood. When we walked in, she gave us a warm welcome and showed us the themes she already set up for us - they were just amazing and exactly as I imagined! The photo shooting process itself was actually way harder than I thought. Why? Because my son was so nervous and was crying the whole time! LOL As a great start he refused to sit in the theme for even just one second...And of course didn't want mommy leave, and smashed all the props, and was crying, crying and crying..Ugh holy moly. For a movement my husband I was looking at each other and thinking probably the same thing 'so... this is not gunna work?!' But Karen saved us! She was super sweet and apparently had thousands ways to make a baby smile:-)While helping calming our little one, she never stopped catching all the possible moments to shoot photos. She herself was working quickly but never made us feel being chased, while a baby was crying over there - I just can't believe how she could do this! It was about 2 hours shooting including two themes and one wash up session. I got a sneak peek a few days later and then all the photos within two weeks. All the photos looks great. My son is so cute and happy in all the photos (who knows he was a crying monster! ) I will just upload some of the photos to show her incredible works. I meant to write this review a long time ago but we've been so busy with our newborn. I highly recommend Karen if you want a newborn photogrphy session. We are so glad we did it. Our baby's weight doubled in 2 months and he is so much bigger. So it was such a good decision to capture him when he was only 7 days old. I was nervous about the session because I thought he would be crying. But Karen was so wonderful handling our baby and he slept through it! I actually learned a few things while watching how Karen was handling our baby patiently and lovingly. Karen is super experienced and knowledgeable about baby and photography and she shared very useful tips prior to the session to help us be prepared. The pictures turn out so great and we just love every one of them. Karen is nothing short of AMAZING! She has been photographing our family for almost 2 years and I would never go anywhere else. I sure wish I knew about her for our wedding in 2015. We started using Karen for our son's 6 month photos, then again for his 1 year milestone photos and just recently used her for our second son's newborn photos. I had called around to a number of potential photographers doing my research for our little girls newborn photo shoot. By the time I got to Karen, I was pretty frustrated. All of the previous calls either went to voicemail or gave a really bad first impression. When Karen picked up my call, it was a completely different experience from the very first second. Not only does she ooze professionalism, but she's warm and passionate about what she does. That was so obvious from the time I spent on the phone with her. She went into just the right amount of detail so that we'd know what to expect without overwhelming some very sleep deprived new parents. There was no point in finishing my list of potential photographers after my call with her-she was it. On the morning of the shoot, she literally showed up exactly on time. For someone trying to juggle nursing, eating breakfast, getting her ready, and a half dozen other things, it was so appreciated that she was neither early nor late-the timing was impeccable. She stayed true to the timeline, and again, that allowed us to plan our day and not completely throw our baby off schedule. I can't say enough about how patient she was with our 16 day old baby. She's like a baby whisperer, and ours was completely at ease with her. She even managed 200+ pounds of fur babies during the shoot, too! The pictures themselves were delivered on time and of course were beautiful. Stunning is an understatement. Everything was wonderful-the price, the shoot, the photographer, the pictures, and the overall experience. We're definitely going to be using her over the years for future photoshoots. read more

Karen is an AMAZING photographer. We have done two photo sessions with her now, one when our son turned a year old, and one when he turned two. Both times she has captured beautiful and natural looking images of our family that have become our most treasured photos! We worked with with Karen a few weeks ago for our daughter's first birthday photo shoot and were very impressed. It was a last minute thing, with only a couple weeks notice and she was able to accommodate our schedule easily. Aside from the beautiful photos she takes, a huge selling point is that fact that she has her own studio. Second year I have experienced Karen and Spectrum Photography. I am amazed at her professionalism and her skill when it comes to taking pictures in a mass of humanity like an awards banquet. She seemed to always be in the right place at the right time. She ran a really fun "Photo Booth" for people, yet also seemed to be everywhere in the crowd. On top of that, she was also at the stage taking shots of the winners at the same time. I would have sworn there were three of her running around. Her Photo Booth seemed to be the highlight of the evening for people, having props available to use for people in order to express their inner fools is a great touch. She kept the attitude light and fun. Compared to other photo-booths I have experienced, it definitely is an important touch. People want to have fun for her and her camera instead of just stepping up for their prom picture, which she'll also capture and make you say "Awwwww" when you see them. Most importantly, her pictures are amazing, or perfect, or spectacular, or all three. Clear and crisp, no fuzziness at all. She uses some amazing gear and is prepared for everything it seems. I framed two of her pictures from last year and gave them as an Anniversary present to my girlfriend. She loves them and I already am planning on framing one from this year because they are just awesome. I am so happy to have found an amazing photographer for K's newborn photo session! I researched photographers from the beginning of my third trimester-checked online reviews, friend referrals, Facebook group recommendations-to make sure I found just the right person to photograph such an important and fleeting time as our lil one's first few weeks home. Karen's name came up multiple times from my search and so I reached out to her to see if she'd be a good fit. From the start i knew I'd like her-she was professional and friendly in her emails, responding quickly to any questions I had (and being a first time mom, I had plenty!). She gave us several dates to work with and we had our session scheduled two weeks after we got home from the hospital. Now let me tell you that my lil guy is a sleeper-being that he was born a month early, he typically slept 20 hours a day. For a newborn photo session, this is perfect so the photographer can pose the baby in ridiculously adorable Anne Geddes-style poses. So, of course, the day of our photo session, lil one decides to stay awake...for FOUR HOURS. He fought those pics like a champ, but Karen was incredibly patient the whole time-switching to family pics and other poses while baby did his best to derail the entire session. She was even able to work some baby whisperer magic at the end of our session to capture some awesome sleepy poses. It took a little less than a week for Karen to send us the pictures, and I was truly in awe of the work she did. The pictures turned out beautifully despite lil one's attempts at sabotaging the entire session. Now I'm just crossing my fingers that she'll be willing to come back and battle him again for a 6 month shoot! read more

Because he's so awesome, I had put a lot of planning and details into his party; I knew I would want professional photos to capture the evening! This review has been a long time coming but life gets busy with an infant/toddler! I have seen Karen on multiple occasions, and she is absolutely the best. My first session with her was a very special newborn special because my son was born at 27 weeks and it was going to be a very specialized "newborn" session (the week he came home from the NICU. 95 days!) Karen was really warm the entire time and guided us through the process. She worked with me and ordered things from etsy so that my Wolverine, Logan, could have a mask and a swaddle to match. She made multiple appointments for me as "stand by" appointments in the off chance he would come home early/later and checked in with me frequently. When he finally came home, it was literally a few days' notice and she was able to keep our appointment. At the newborn session, Logan was being his stubborn self, didn't want to go to sleep, didn't want to be on his back, didn't want to be swaddled, Karen worked with him for hours. We got amazing shots and she was and is so patient about getting him to sleep. She also provided hot water so we can warm bottles and although we had our own pacifiers, she had extras just in case. Fast forward one year, Logan is now ready for his 1 year old photos. He has even more of a personality now and he is more stubborn than ever, coupled with high separation anxiety from mommy. Despite his resistance to being in shots with anyone but me, Karen still got amazing shots and was able to deliver smiles by jumping around and really connecting with him. She somehow was able to get cute pics of the set despite the fact Logan was being fussy the entire time. I can't recommend her enough. She is AMAZING and we will be going to her for years to come. read more

Karen was our photographer for our engagement photos and our recent wedding. She did an excellent job capturing this special time in our lives on both occasions. We did both photo shoots in gardens - our engagement shoot was at the UC Botanical Garden in Berkeley and our wedding was at the Gardens at Heather Farm in Walnut Creek. Karen found great places in both gardens to take beautiful photos. She's easy to work with and communicates openly. During a wedding, things can get stressful from time to time, but Karen and her team worked with us throughout the day to problem solve quickly and helped to keep us on schedule. For our wedding we hired a second photographer through her, Galen Ducey, and he was also fantastic. Karen truly went above and beyond for us on both occasions, as evidenced by our wonderful photos!
