Kelly was so amazing to work with it. It was crazy to me how little support I got at the hospital and pediatrician concerning breastfeeding and while in general me and my baby were doing well with breastfeeding he did drop 11% from his birth weight on day 4 so I reached out to Kelly. My favorite part is that she's a great texter (lol). Even in those first few texts where I was telling her my situation I could tell she cared and felt like I was texting a super knowledgeable friend. So far we only had the one video call and since my baby caught up in his weight and we don't seem to have any other issues at the moment Kelly was able to answer all my questions and had great props on the call to educate me on latch and position. Updating my review - last time I wrote was for my firstborn a year and a half ago. Remembering the miracles she performed last time, I decided to reach out to get her help for my second child (earlier this time!) after my husband over-enthusiastically fed him a heaping bottle to chug a day after we returned from the hospital. She was super easy to connect with over text message, quickly scheduled an appointment for the next business day, and before I knew it, she was there supporting us through the start of our breastfeeding journey. Since we are currently during times of COVID, she wore a mask throughout the entirety of her time in our home, and made sure to wash her hands before coming into contact with myself or baby. These little acts of care made us feel really reassured to have her come for an in-person session (she also offers virtual sessions). My son was a week old and not only was he refusing the bare breast, he was also starting to struggle with a nipple shield. With Kelly's guidance, we spent our session practicing how to get him on properly, what angle to approach, how to hold him, and also getting my confidence up that we CAN do this. She was also fantastic in involving my husband and showing him how to help me and how he can have an active role with breastfeeding as my support person. By the end of our session, we were all feeling much less stressed, knowing that we just had a lot of practice and exposure ahead of us, but nothing we couldn't tackle together. In the past few weeks, my son was diagnosed with breastmilk jaundice and his pediatrician had recommended he do a 3-day course of formula. We didn't have the heart to pace-feed him for 3 days straight, and thus were really nervous about how all this bottle feeding would hinder our breastfeeding journey. But with the skills and tricks Kelly taught us, I was able to go through the motions again and within a few days, my son remembered how to latch and feed and was nursing on my bare breast again. Like I said before, Kelly is a friendly and highly experienced lactation consultant, and nothing has changed between my last review and this one, except for the growth in adoration and appreciation I have for her. Kelly is a breastfeeding lifesaver. 5 years ago, Kelly patiently helped me through my breastfeeding journey with my daughter -- what started out as an initial goal of 3 months of breastfeeding ended up in a 15 month exclusively breastfeeding journey. Here I am 5 years later thinking it would be easier the second time around but NOPE! Kelly came over a couple days after my son was born as I was having trouble getting him to latch.. and when he would latch, he would slip off easily. Kelly helped get a comfortable latch within minutes. He ultimately was diagnosed by a pediatric dentist with a tongue and lip tie, and Kelly was there to help us through that journey. This review is long overdue! Kelly is the absolute best! She is an expert and provides LOTS of helpful resources. I won't mention my insurance carrier but needless to say, they were not helpful at all. We found out at 4 days old that my baby had a tongue tie. How did we find out? When discharged from the hospital, our nurse said it looked like baby could have a tongue tie and to keep an eye on it. Had I not mentioned it to my pediatrician at her first visit, I don't think they would have noticed anything. Baby had lost weight and they insisted I supplement. I explained we were having a hard time breastfeeding and they said it looked minor but I could go ahead and see an LC for some help. We saw 2 LCs through my insurance and were referred to an ENT doctor who cut about 1mm. That was nothing. And did nothing :( latching was not improving and I was a hot mess. Because I was so hell bent on breastfeeding, I did not want to give up. I did my own research and found Kelly. It wasn't until after my first visit with her that I was able to understand what was happening. She checked baby's sucking (or lack thereof), inability to latch and recommended us to a pediatric dentist (who ultimately saved us). Turns out her tie was not minor at all! It was a very long road to recovery. Sleepless nights. Lots of tears. My husband bottlefed for 4 weeks while I pumped...I wanted to give up almost every day, but we persisted. So this review is long overdue. I'm writing as the "spouse/dad" and I can't say enough great things about Kelly! Our son was born a few weeks premature and needed a bit of development and coaching in order to successfully latch. Breastfeeding was one of the most important things that my wife wanted to do for our son, and it was a really difficult and frustrating experience. (Especially because it comes so naturally to some babies, not ours!) Wow - Kelly is the entire reason I am able to breastfeed my baby. After having a rough birth and terrible advice from the lactation consultants at the hospital (just breastfeed through the pain!, it will get better in a month!) I found Kelly. The pain from breastfeeding was so bad I started using formula and couldn't feed for more than a minute without crying. Kelly came to my home and provided an instant sense of relief. Kelly was a total gem! Our little girl was born weighing 7lbs 3oz and by the time we left the hospital she was down to 6lbs 8oz which was 8.6% down from her birth weight. Hours before we were set to be discharged the nurse said she was concerned about the weight loss and is talking to us about supplementing, got us a medical grade pump and sent us home with formula. It was so overwhelming and I was torn between wanting our new babe to be healthy and gain weight and wanting to successfully breastfeed. I reached out to Kelly on the way home from the hospital. She is the person to go for any help regarding breastfeeding issues. We setup appointments during the first few weeks of having our baby and she was of tremendous help. The pain brought me to tears, and I was about ready to give up. I figured it was worth one last try to have a LC come to MY home and assess the situation. I texted Kelly on a Saturday afternoon and arranged for her to come the NEXT day, Sunday morning. Saturday night I texted her hoping to get her advise as to if I should pump or use a nipple shield to minimize the pain and be able to feed my baby until she arrived the next day. Even though I hadn't paid for her service yet, Kelly quickly responded with her advise and followed up with me a few hours later to make sure we had been able to feed successfully. The overall consultation on Sunday was great. Kelly is super sweet, down to earth, knowledgeable and dedicated to making sure everything is going well and YOU feel comfortable with feedings before she leaves. She had us practice latching numerous times with her help, then had us independently latch a few more times. She answered all of our questions and sent me a care plan afterwards with all the information we had discussed (which is perfect because what new mom can remember all of that or take enough notes to remember?!) Kelly also checked for tongue ties and did weight checks during the visit to see how much baby girl had eaten. One of the BEST parts of working with Kelly is that she continues to be available to me via text or phone! Any questions or concerns I have, she quickly responds to!
