I would never…read moreusually have had much dealings with it, apart from when I was a student at Newtownabbey Tech, a number of years ago. I have various 'happy' memories of trudging in the rain up the road to the college from this station, and even happier memories of the days when we 'forgot' to get off at Whiteabbey, and continued on up to Belfast for a day of procrastination. The platforms have decent sized shelters and benches on both sides, with flights of steps on either side leading up to the walkways to enter/access the platforms. There is also a good sized car park for commuters to use, should they not wish to drive all the way into the city centre. There is no ticket booths here, nor have I ever seen a conductor, so it's just a case of hopping on and purchasing your ticket on the train, should you not already have one.

This means it's much handier for those who avail of the park and ride service. The parking facility here was minimal before this rebuild but it seems a lot more secure and safe now which will keep many drivers at east. The platform itself isn't up to much, it's pretty basic but that's all you need. It is great having the train station in the area as there's no other stop between Whiteabbey and Belfast. From Mondays to Saturdays on the Larne line there is a half-hourly service towards Carrick with one train an hour continuing to Larne and a half-hourly service to Belfast Central. One thing that baffles me is that the train doesn't stop here on the way to Derry. I used to get this train every week up to Coleraine university and had to travel to Mossley West (see review) even through the train passes through this station. Platform 1 takes you in to Belfast and Platform 2 takes you to CArrickfergus / Larne. Check translink website or call for train times and more info.

Lots to do on…read morethe ship to entertain the young ones, and there's also plenty of place to settle down for a nap. It's quite noisy, and the food isn't cheap- you might want to bring your own snacks. But all in all, it was not bad. We didn't have a car- were dropped off by bus and picked up by bus- so I can't speak to that. The luggage arrived pretty fast- so that was nice. The kids liked the video games and the movies. I appreciated the comfortable seating choices.

When we left home this morning I didn't expect to be on this diesel powered ferry. It's a first…read morefor me and likely the last; I've been in Columbia more often. My wife was on it once before. This is one of the world's shortest ferry journeys as it's about four minutes each way. The world's shortest ferry line is the Ferry Lina in Töreboda, Sweden. It takes around 20-25 seconds and is hand powered. A car with two people return is £16. The staff are very friendly, you pay aboard, we used a card on a phone and while it's roll on - roll off for vehicles it also takes foot passengers. It was very busy both ways, it holds around 25 cars and some motorcycles and it goes from Strangford where we approached it on the hour and half hour and from Portaferry quarter to and quarter past the hour.

This little ferry is an absolute wonder. I don't think it has changed at all since I was a child…read more It's basically a very small car ferry which travels back and forward across Strangford Lough between Portaferry and Strangford. The journey is slow and relaxed and as you're only going a very short distance across the Lough (less than a mile) it only takes about 10 minutes. The ferry runs every half hour every day except Christmas Day, except when the weather is too stormy. You drive your car up a little ramp and leave it parked on the small deck. It costs just over a fiver to go across one way and on a sunny day you get a fabulous view of the Lough and the coast line on both sides. Travelling across Strangford by ferry is such a novelty, both adults and kids will love it and if you're cutting across the Lough for practical reasons rather than driving round, you'll save over an hour and 75 miles on your journey.

Sydenham Railway Station is wedged between Holywood Railway Station and Bridge End, it provides a…read moreuseful transport link to George Best Belfast City Airport. Although this is all it really provides, it has no ticketing facilities and no real amenities. Tickets for onward train journeys can be purchased on board the trains from conductors. The only real feather in Sydenhams cap is its proximity to the City airport. Once you depart the train the airport is only a footbridge away. The footbridge runs over the Sydenham Bypass. Sydenham is also the stop to depart at if you wish to visit "The Oval" home of Glentoran Football Club and host to Northern Ireland Under 21 Football matches. As with most other none major Railway Stations on the Bangor to Belfast Line Sydenham operates tow platforms, one that operates services to Belfast Central, Great Victoria Street, Portadown and Newry and the other running trains going towards Bangor via Holywood, Cultra, Marino, Helens bay, Caralea and Bangor West. Express Services are also available at peak times.

City Hospital Railway station opened on 6 October 1986 and has been given little attention since…read more It is wedged in between Botanic Station and Great Victoria Street, 3 stations that are regarded as City Centre stops. The station itself has two platforms, one that operates services to Portadown and Newry and the other running trains going towards Bangor via Belfast central and Holywood. I feel that City Hospital Railway station is in need of a major refurbishment. It has a huge amount of graffiti, none of it tasteful, on the train line and always has random household items strewn around the platforms. For instance I saw a pram and a microwave on a recent trip. The City Hospital Railway stop as the name suggests is excellent in the fact that it is so close to the City Hospital. Not many other cities have such a close transport link to a major hospital making it relatively easy to commute to and from the hospital. You often see patients from the hospital on the platform who look like they have discharged themselves, this gives a good idea how close the station is to the hospital entrance.

We saw all the important and interesting areas of the city, including the Titanic Shipyards, Stormont, the university, Cathedral Quarter, City Hall, Crumlin Jail, the Peace Wall, Shankhill Road and the Falls Road. My only (small) criticism is that notice could be given in advance at the places where you can get off (to see something more thoroughly and hop back on a later tour bus). We had intended to get off at the Botanic Gardens but went past before we realised we were there. Best to keep a close eye on the free map and ask to get off in time. Otherwise a really superb tour.
