I was a pedestrian involved in a hit-and-run incident in Mill Valley while doing some shopping in the area. As the driver backed directly into me while exiting a parking space, I attempted to minimize personal injury to myself by yelling and extending my arm to protect my legs and torso from being hit by the SUV. Fortunately, the driver stopped before serious injury could occur. The driver refused to exit the vehicle and check on my condition and fled the scene. Instead of helping locate and prosecute the assailant using the license plate information provided, they blamed me for the incident and extensively questioned me about my reasons for being there and asked me numerous invasive questions about my health condition and prescription medications that I take. They also searched my cellphone extensively without a warrant. I did not appreciate being treated suspiciously as an out-of-towner and person of color. I suspect that the police department is more concerned with placating the litigious residents of the esteemed Mill Valley community than protecting the rights and safety of any non-white, non-resident victims as the police specifically excluded the license plate information and any mention of photo evidence from the police report. I implore others to reconsider shopping or conducting any business in Mill Valley for their own safety and peace of mind. read more

The Mill Valley Police Department is about as incompetent as they come. There is a gas leak on El Camino and the police department is allowing people to go up the hill and enter into a massive traffic jam on a Friday afternoon. They have not put a police car on east Blithedale to inform people not to come up the hill, instead they're allowing hundreds of cars to come up the hill and to sit in a traffic jam because of their own incompetence Incredible! read more

Today , at 10:15 or so, driving in mill valley , behind their city hall, i noticed a cop , complete with bullet proof vest talking to the tall meter maid. Not the nice one. Anyway they were 3 to 4 feet apart and virtually maskless. The cop had no mask to be seen, and the meter reader, had on but on her chin. Well as a health conscious person I'm not worried about getting Covid from some one's chin, im worried that it will come from their mouths. This is unacceptable. These clowns show great disrespect to others. But , it comes to be expected from the MVPD. read more

Thank you Mill Valley Police Department! My car was the unfortunate victim of a hit-and-run accident in a Whole Foods parking lot. Then a wonderful Good Samaritan saw the accident and immediately called the Mill Valley Police while I was shopping inside. The MV Police sent out two patrol cars to apprehend the driver, but weren't able to find him. Fast forward - Amica Insurance contacts me and says that under normal circumstances I would need to pay my deductible for the repairs on my car, but since the Mill Valley Police did such an excellent job on their detailed police report, Amica would waive my deductible. Mill Valley has very little real crime. Most of what officers here are asked to field breaks down to adults acting like children. They take it very well. They are a integral part of the reason that most people biggest concern is parking and traffic. Officer Mario has been keeping this community safe since I was young and is a fine example of the vigilance, compassion and understanding that I have come to know this area for. Luckily, I don't carry a lot of cash around (um, because I spend it), but unluckily, I carry around my life with me (one must always be prepared to whip out one's Loehmann's club card). So, tonight around 9pm I was at the corner where the police turn to go to the station. I was trying to be safe as always and not cross when the hand is up because I don't know how much time I have left. There was a cop there so I really didn't want to cross ans get a ticket or hit by a car. The officer seemed upset I didn't want to cross and seemed like he was yelling but I couldn't hear due to hear and vision difficulty at times. I don't really have anything good or bad to say about the police I just don't want to cross the street when the hand is up because it is unsafe. I'm not sure if I was being yelled at but what I saw as hand gestures seemed annoyed with me. As a person that stands out in the area and has vision and hearing issues I rather stand on the corner and wait for the next light. Generally they are friendly. read more

Discriminatory! My disabled sister recently moved into an apartment complex for the disabled. She had about 25 big tubs of her belongings stacked up while I found furniture for her. After a month she was finally able to put her possessions away. That's when she discovered massive theft - expensive jewelry from her former jewelry business, new clothes, shoes, makeup, pricy craft items she needs to supplement her income, household things, small antiques - they even took her food! Way over $5000 worth was stolen. My sister is very particular about where she places items and had been noticing things had been moved around. She has bars in the sliding door/windows to prevent access so the theft was done by someone with a Master Key to the apartments. This person knew when my sister was gone from her apartment, illegally gained access with the Master key, stole items from the tubs then carefully restacked them so the theft was not detectable. My sister reported the theft to the apartment manager who was totally unconcerned and did absolutely nothing about it (there are no security cameras at the complex, and the card accessed security door is always broken). My sister called the MV Police to report the theft. An officer came out, took a look around and said he "didn't see evidence of a break-in", even when she repeatedly told him it was an inside job. He refused to believe her, or take a police report, or talk to the apartment manager -- NOTHING! He was arrogant and treated her as if she were mentally deficient - she isn't! She lives there because her spine has disintegrated! How discriminatory of disabled people is that?? So not only was my sister violated by the theft of her possessions but she was dismissed by this MV police officer as a crazy person! Then this police officer called me to verify her "story". He interrogated me like I was a criminal. I told him I'd be happy to sign a notarized statement about the stolen items since I'd purchased many of her stolen belongings as she's on a fixed income. He refused to believe me and STILL didn't take a police report. Unbelievable! My sister was so shocked and outraged that she directly contacted the MV Chief of Police. He apologized for his officer's conduct, and told her to document the stolen items and hand it in. We're working on this list now, and it's a long one. I've read NextDoor posts about the MV Police taking reports of people's stolen bikes or iPhones. So why did this police officer flat-out refuse to report the theft of over $5,000 worth belongings stolen? From someone with a disability? And this is Mill Valley's finest? read more

Watch out, they're sneaky and they will get you! Do the Mill Valley Police department officers have to fill a monthly quota for ticketing people, maybe they get a bonus? I am always an advocate for a police officer but lately the Mill Valley Police Department just seem sneaky. They are always hiding in side streets waiting for a person to roll through the stop sign or hiding on private property to catch someone going slightly over the limit. We have been watching them lately pull people over and we really can't work out what the person has done wrong. Friends have told us stories about the minor things they have done that have been ticketed. Today, I was ticketed, was I in the wrong, yes but I would argue it was nothing major and for someone with a clean record couldn't you give me a warning? No, wouldn't even let me politely explain, just took off and wrote me a ticket. The MV police are ticket happy, sneaky people justifying their existence. If they truly want to make the roads safer, be present, do a public relations campaign but this ticketing everyone and everything for minor things is just not doing them any favors. read more

weeks ago i alerted the PD of a parking issue. the PD's parking team said it has been a problem for a long time but their leaders were not supporting them. i took photos and sent info to Chief who completely ignored me. even when one of vehicles was illegally parked on a city street with no plates. when i called PD the guy who called me back denied that it was an infraction and when i challenged him he called agin and apologized but said he did not have the right forms to issue a fix-it ticket. incredible! since then the PD has refused to respond to all the info i sent. they also ignore the leash laws in the park 20 feet from their station and they ignore cyclists who ride down Camino Alto at 35-45 in a 25 zone read more

Corruption manifests itself in a variety of extremes. The types which are widely publicized (assaults, theft) are not the only illegal behaviors police are frequently involved in. It should be noted most employees in the police force are generally sincere in their desire to fulfill the obligations of the public good, but the few who aren't inflict irreparable harm extending not only the individuals involved, but in the image society as a whole views them in. I was arrested for a DUI by an officer R. Maxwell badge No. 217 after leaving my premises to pick up a friend who had been drinking at the 2AM club in MIll Valley around the time the bars were closing out. This officer intentionally fabricated that I had a faulty break light in which he used as an excuse for pulling me over. I had consumed 3-4 beers that evening spanning 4PM to about 2AM (the time I had been pulled over). He administered a series of 3 sobriety tests, the first in I was subjected to was he ordered me take 9 steps (toe to heel) away from the officer while holding my arms far away from my torso then 7 steps back; the second involved me outstretching my arms and tilting my head back with my eyes closed while counting backwards from 30 in my head, stating "done" aloud when I completed, the third had me tilt my head back with my eyes closed and touching my fingertips to my nose with the officer calling out which had to use and me following accordingly. Each one I passed with flying colors, which several sober witnesses I am personally friends who can attest to this, yet oficer R Maxwell decided to fail me on every count. Mill Valley police hires incompetent cowards who rather than utilizing their efforts to trace drug rings and other forms of organized crime, or working with other neighboring departments in efforts to belay hard drug trafficking and prostitution lay in wait outside of bars and three way stop signs,in order quota without getting their hands dirty- They do NOT act as buffer between law abiding citizens and career criminals. MVPD could care less about it's citizens and the money we already place directly into their pockets. They seem all complicit in their scheme as not one officer on the scene spoke up and convinced the others to let me go home. Their malfiesance comes at a crime as terrible price- I have lost respect for them completely and many, many citizens are following suit with similar experiences. A message to MVPD: Our cooperation is given to you not out of respect, but out of fear of falling victim of legally mandated robbery which you uphold, and you should all be personally embarrassed to be apart of it. read more
