Ive been really hard on these guys in the past because...well, because District 6 is a hellhole. After meeting with Cap. Cherniss and his partner (good guys) to discuss issues I had with SFPD, I came away with better understanding of what they do and how they do it. Wow. The fact that these men and women choose to be here (yeah. SFPD officers choose what district they work in) is something we should all be grateful for. If you think the TL is utter chaos now, imagine what would happen if these handful of people werent here. And it is unfortunately just a handful. You can thank the mayors office for that. Before you really get down on SFPD, go to the station and meet with the Captain. Go look at the duty board, particularly the injured list. These people are literally breaking their backs for you. Im still not a fan of the motorcycle cop that parked his bike in the middle of the cross walk while he ate at little henrys. Only a real asshole or moron would do something like that. read more

The girls and gals at this precinct are a bunch of bullies who say mean things and do nasty things to me. Well, on second thought, not all of them are mean nasty, Officer Kelly is kind but also nasty in a bad way if you know what I mean. Caraway and O'Keefe are good dudes; Coss might have killer looks and a smile to die for but he can never keep his word (his poor wife); Commissioner Gordon is cute; so is PSA West and all the rest. Was off Union Square, witnessed a breaking and entering at one of the commercial construction sites. Called tenderloin PD nonemergency. I told him the address and the corner and they said they'd be right there. Such efficient services... Or so I thought. Enough time goes by where I'm like, what the fuck. Call him back. I asked them what the average response time for breaking and entering is. Dude gives me lip and then tells me that the address I called in is at central station not tenderloin. Suddenly, knowing exactly where something is and sending someone right over is we're busy and it's at another precinct. What the hell. The 19-year-old answering the phones at 2 AM Saturday morning should go back to Taco Bell instead of contributing to San Francisco's crime problem with his apathy and garbage job performance. read more

This little storefront is a quiet, cool respite from the hubbub of daily life in the 'loin. Bring a book, bring a date, bring a broken bike lock, best of all most services are free. On a recent Thursday afternoon all lights were out to conserve the cool. An immaculately groomed SWAT officer was silently buffing a large and very impressive shotgun with a cloth rag on his way out to who knows what adventure. No queue, no action, nothing but cave-like calm. Inside the bulletproof acrylic booth a guy in full uniform sits in utter darkness, stacks a messy pile of papers, rings you on the phone. Very Star Chamber, very cool, very nice. "Huh?" he says. "Yeah. Yeah? Okay. No, not here. You might try DMV." He hangs up. In, out, mission not accomplished faster than a Tenderloin ho taking a piss. Better service, too. Decor could be better. Only six years old and it's already dingy and scuffed. Most police matters you choose your station and personally, the Mission Station on Valencia is my favorite for ambiance. Can't rate it on crimefighting. Haven't seen much police presence in the hood, we all know there's plenty of nasty and street people pullinng scams on the sidewak out front. read more

Naturally, my first inclination is f*ck da police but these guys are alright (and by guys, I mean girls too).... Obviously, in one of the most crime ridden neighborhoods in SF they have seen it all; heard it all yet still seem to posses some (note: some) genuine care and interest in helping. I have had to deal with probably every single officer in this station (i.e. obsessive stalker ex) and they have always pretty much been on my side - which is appreciated. Today I want to thank Cadet Cato and Cherese for their help in finding my son who is a homeless heroin/fentanyl addict which began when the pharmaceutical companies (with the FDA's approval) marketed oxycontin medications as safe but failed to protect the consumers from one of the most addictive medications in history. Then Kaiser prescribed over 1,600 narcotic tablets within 11 months without any medical tests to CONFIRM ANY MEDICAL NEED FOR THE PRESCRIPTIONS. So as a parent I was powerless to protect my son (because of the HIPPA Laws) and now am fighting to save his life. Although, it has been difficult if not impossible to get any information from other government entities Cadet Cato and Cherese did take the time to get information and research the possible whereabouts of my son. On July 22, 2017, at 10:30 PM I was crossing Jones @ Geary to go to Wallgreens and I still had four seconds to cross the crossing. Other people were crossing and there was a car waiting them. I ran and got to the other side in three seconds. The car turned right and the second car approached the corner. It was a police car. The officer looked at my eyes and told me: "Thank you for making everyone waiting your time, sir!". He ran really fast and I could not get his number. You white, blonde officer who was at Geary and Jones at the date and time posted above, God is watching you. I end here to avoid getting arrested. read more

Last night we couldn't find where we parked our car after a concert at the Regency Ballroom. We wandered up and down the streets looking for the little garage but had no luck. Not being familiar with the area we expanded our search and ended up completely lost and in the worst part of the tenderloin. My girlfriend and I are Caucasian and she is blond to add to matters. We wandered all over trying to find our way back to our car and went through some very dangerous areas as we later found out. I was on the phone with Onstar trying to get them to tell us where our car was but they said they couldn't help unless it was reported stolen (FAIL). They finally said we should flag down a police car and then call them back which we finally did but the officers said without it being stolen they couldn't file a report. We thanked them and cursed Onstar and continued our search up and down and all around the area between Market St. and Van Ness Ave. and between Turk St. and Pine St. this was 10:30pm I have to tell you that we saw a lot of colorful characters and weird goings on but never suspected we were in such a bad area (kind of stupid on our part, yes, but we had to find our car!). We took the full night time walking tour and at around 12:30 we saw the same patrol car that we had flagged down earlier... They seemed a little surprised to see us still walking around and because I was on the phone yet again to Onstar, pleading with them to at least give me a hint where our car was, we stopped them again. The two officers were amazed that we hadn't found our car yet and even more amazed that we hadn't been robbed or assaulted in the part of town we were in. They told us to get in the back and they would try to help us find our car, the reasoning being that they would be taking an incident report from us in the near future if they didn't help us now. So, we did a ride along for awhile on their patrol as we kept an eye out for our missing parking garage and I'll tell you this was a real eye opener! I've read some of the other comments on here but let me tell you how it looks from the other side, after midnight in the Tenderloin. The two officers (and us) were in a patrol car and were vastly outnumbered by the indigenous population, which seemed to grow more numerous and zombie-like as the morning waxed. My girlfriend and I kept recognizing people we had seen earlier when we were walking and one character that kept turning up was, 'Shirley' who was always running across the streets and really 'did' look like a zombie... The officers would shine a light on her a yell, 'Shirley, Get out of The Street!'. I can see how the situation could seem hopeless for the people here. To preserve order, the police would literally have to arrest hundreds of people a night and that just isn't possible. The men and women of the Tenderloin Station have a tough task and they are doing the best that can be expected with what they have to deal with. and guess what? After Onstar had #FAILED us, the Tenderloin PD dropped us at the station and they found our car in minutes using detective deduction and calling nearby garages... Love the cops. The tenderloin is a hive of scum and villany. They have a hard job and are super busy with constanly diminshing resources. I wish they could arrest the street people who mug people, break into cars, poop on the street or have sex on the sidewalk but I know they would get in hot water from the homless advocacy group, They do a good job, have always been professional to me but can certainly lay down the law. Our car was broken into just two blocks from this police station on the night after thanksgiving. The folks at this station were just downright unaccommodating when we rushed to the station to file a police report. We stood for over 30 minutes on the front desk while the guys inside were laughing and merrymaking between themselves.When someone finally came, we were told to drive our burglarized car to the station otherwise they won't believe it. At last someone came and genuinely helped us out. A big thanks to Officer Schultz (thus the two stars) who was really helpful with us afterwards. read more

I was honestly really disappointed with the officers at this police station. I recently went to the station because I had just been robbed the night before and after explaining what happened, I asked the officers if I would be able to use a phone or anything in order to contact my friends so I could get home (I'm not from the area). Rather than doing something to help me, they gave me a piece of paper with info for filing a police report and I was told that I wouldn't be allowed to use their phone because 1) it didn't stretch into their lobby and 2) I wasn't allowed in their office. They then proceeded to tell me that they wouldn't be able to help me any further! I Since they were absolutely useless to me, I asked if they knew where the closest library was. Although an officer told me where it was located, I asked for directions and if they could print it out for me thinking it was a simple request. Apparently even that was out of the question and I was told that I could ask strangers for directions because the library was apparently so close. This station's staff is hit or miss, but today Officer Gee was really helpful. I occasionally come here to make reports for auto vandalism/boost (the joys of livIng in the TL), he is the only officer who hasn't made me feel like I was wasting his time, who hasn't told me/asked why I did go to the Fillmore station. Thanks for the safety advice too! no walking around the TL with shopping bags this holiday season, thugs will bop you over the head for 'em. read more

I recently visited this police station to file a report for a theft of my phone. While I was in front I met Captain Fabri and I introduced myself because I knew the former Captain who was promoted to Commander her name is Commander Ewins who by the way is a very tough, compassionate, no nonsense officer who I have known since she was a patrol officer in the Castro. Commander Ewins was instrumental in helping me change my life from a life of crime to becoming a productive member of society many years ago. Captain Fabri was extremely polite, professional and very helpful in directing me to where I needed to go to take care of the report. These police officers put up with a lot of BS and working in the TL, as you can imagine is extremely dangerous and difficult. I have to commend the entire station for their tireless efforts in trying to make the TL a better place to live and work. Thank you to all the men and women who put their lives at risk every day to make this city a better place for all of us to live and work! I've worked in the neighborhood 4 years. Have seen officers descending en masse on the Philz Coffee House at Larkin and Golden Gate, parking illegally in red and white zones, double parking, jay walking in droves, and high-fiving each other as they walk in. They will ticket you for jay walking (if you are not a fellow officer, and appear able to pay the $200 fine), however they seem blind to the rampant, obvious drug dealing and using on the street within view of the coffee house and in the several-block area where I walk during my breaks. I have almost never seen a foot patrol in four years, and when I have, they were harassing the elderly Chinese ladies who sell their food bank rations. I don't understand. I have absolutely no confidence in them. Incident 1: When waiting at the window to make a police report, I watched as the officer shuffled, paper clipped and then unclipped papers continuously for at least 10 minutes only to be told I'd have to wait minimum 30 minutes to place a report. read more

On the 29 of November I had went to the tree lighting at union square with my wife and 3 of my friends. This night was my first time going topless in public and I had a wonderful time. I had gotten a lot of people that where supporting me but as we where leaving I felt some gap my arm on Powell and Geary. As I look up there was 2 cops them told me to put my cloths on. I try to inform them that I was not breaking any laws that it is legal to be topless in public but all they said was that it was not. They also told me I had been sided so what this point I was so scare that I button up my coat and left with my friends. The Tenderloin station really need to inform there cops about the law because they really don't know what is and what is not legal. read more
