I wasn't too impressed at this hotel. The rooms are dark without much lighting available and seem outdated. There are hardly any convenient outlets, which makes it hard to plug a bulk travel adapter into because the outlets are along the edge of the floor. I mean, but it's still a decent place to stay in for a night. The indoor pool is beautiful. I didn't get a chance to swim in it, but it looks so serene and calm. I don't really remember much from this hotel, besides the lobby being dark. The hotel is conveniently located next to PAK'nSave (maybe 5 minute walk), so if you're hungry or looking for snacks for your trip, definitely stop by the grocery store on your first night. read more

I don't spend much time in the hotels I stay at, but if you do, this is a really nice hotel for a fair price: I stayed here for 2 nights for $375NZ. PROS: -Slightly dated but very clean amusing tropical ambiance. -Large, clean, spacious room and bathroom. -Pool and free access to the spa tubs and gym -Central location to shopping and restaurants -Extraordinarily friendly staff CONS: -Upon checkout, for unknown reasons, the bill came out to $505NZ. But I'm old fashioned and had a printed reservation copy showing the $375NZ price. They corrected the price, but we lost about 10 minutes of our lives. Not sure if I'll ever come back to Rotorua, but I'd likely stay here again if I did. read more

Not too happy about this place despite the higher reviews. We arrived and parked, walked out bags up to the front. We entered the lobby, no greetings or anything. Three staff members at the front desk, two are helping other guests. A quick hello, we will be right with you would have sufficed. We get checked in, are told breakfast is included, etc... As we walk to our room, the carpets are flush. Newer hardware on old doors it seems like. Door is a bit tough to get open and then it takes forever to close. Not a bad room, the bed was nice since it was a pillow top or so it seemed. The sheets were a bit itchy. Hardly any outlets anywhere except to be found on one of the nightstands, one under the desk, and another in the bathroom. Walked around to check things out. The pool is on the first floor, mostly kids in it. The laundry area is connected to the main hotel laundry area. So I paid for two nights stay, breakfast was supposedly included one the day of check out I am told breakfast is not included and I would have to pay. I do not understand that, never been told I don't get breakfast on the last day. I cannot get breakfast on day of check in since check in is at 2 PM. Breakfast is served from 630-10. Quite an array of items to choose from for breakfast. Hash browns, streaky bacon, lamb sausages, fried eggs and scrambled. Juices, tea, coffee. Porridge and congee. Curry samosa like things. Internet was wonky. The sulfur smells that come into the room through the AC were deadly, but that's what you get for staying on the thermals. There was an inch gap beneath the door, stuck the throw to cover the light. You could hear everything. The noise was such an issue. People running and shouting through the garden area. The pool was right below too. On our last night, there were drunks in the hallway/ lobby area shouting and yelling. It seemed like they were arguing too. It went on for about 20 minutes or so. You could hear people using the toilet. Now the bathrooms in our room had been patched, and not a good patch job. Someone had damaged the fixtures/ knob in the rub and it was glued back together. The door had major wear and scratches, paint missing. Looked like we ended up in a bathroom belonging to a tenant who was behind on their rent and did not care about their environment. There was constant water funneling into the toilet which left hard water or whatever you want to call them stains. The toilet did not do a proper flush, always left bits of toilet paper or refuse in the bottom. CAUTION! Proceed into the shower at your own risk. Besides being way off the ground, I'm 5'5" and I had issues getting in the tub. Husband was 6'2" and had issues getting in the tub. It had a rounded bottom and was narrow, which is why they had the rubber mat for you not to slip. Well that mat was covered with mildew, obviously never got cleaned. There was also mold growing on the top tiles before you reach the ceiling. More mildew in the grout. The best part is you could get scalded with hot water even if you are taking a cold water shower. The water temperature fluctuated so frequently we tried to shower as fast as possible. But to no avail, we still got burned. Quite frustrating. The sink was in bad condition. The only convenient thing was the relative ease it was to hit downtown and find some food within walking distance. My husband and I also seemed to have developed a rash within the two days we were here as well. Hopefully it goes away as we get further from here. read more

Clean room and comfy beds. Someone mentioned that the hotel stunk and this is because it's close to the lake where there's sulphuric gases, not really the hotel's fault. It does smell like egg salad but you get used to it. The rooms do not seem quiet but we were so tired it didn't matter. We spent 3 nights at this hotel. The staff are super friendly and helpful. There's a small fridge in the room that we used to store food we bought from the grocery store (a 10 min walk from hotel). Even though we had a lake view we didn't utilize the balcony. There was nothing to sit on out there and it just wasn't welcoming. The hotel is clean and nice but it has never been remodeled. Front desk will call you a cab, just ask. We loved a cafe called Capers; highly recommend walking there for coffee or any meal. They open at 7am and close 9 pm. You can walk to Eat Street from here, it's about a 10 minute walk to all the restaurants. read more

Millenium is a huge hotel ideally situated near the Polynesian Spa with views of Lake Rotorua. We spent two nights on the 5th floor club level, the room was comfortable but the safe was broken, Called reception to report the broken safe, after 12 rings gave up by Club lounge manager called it in which was appreciated. The Millenium is a large hotel, the vast reception and Lobby area are designed to accommodate large groups. It felt a bit impersonal but other than the broken room safe have no real complaints. Highly recommend upgrading to the Club level with access to the club lounge for breakfast, which includes yogurts, breads, fresh fruit, cereals, juices, espresso coffee and teas. For evening cocktail hour, 5/7pm, they serve drinks (wine, beer, spirits) with hearty hors d'oeuvres. It's also a nice place to work as the space is empty during the day. A self serve espresso machine is available all day as well as a desktop computer. Rex, the Club manager during our stay, was very helpful and definitely added a touch of class to the experience, he clearly is a seasoned professional in the hospitality business. I would stay here again primarly because of the location, there are newer properties in Rotorua but not with this view and proximity to Polynesian Spa, which was very enjoyable. read more

The location is right in the center of the city, so in close proximity to the lake front, shops and restaurants. The interior of the hotel showed its age in many areas; looked kind of fatigued. The dinner we had with our tour group was very nice, but the breakfast buffet was mediocre. The biggest disappointment for me was the coffee-tasted aweful! Our beds were comfortable. For such a pricey and self-proclaimed 4 star hotel (i saw nothing that would indicate that it is deserving of such a high star rating), I expected a lot more. Maybe it's the proximity to the water or its size that makes it so pricey? For starters there was an awful smell in the entire hotel. It bothered me so much that I refused to breathe through my nose in a pathetic attempt to avoid the smell. The rooms are really small and the beds so uncomfortable. I am the kind of person that can fall asleep anywhere without much difficulty, but that was not the case here. You'd think I would be sleeping like a rock after being in transit for over two days, but I was up before my 4:30 alarm went off. I am happy that we only had to spend a night at this place because any more would have really put a damper on my time in Rotorua, which is a really beautiful place in the Bay of Plenty. Though the hotel itself was lacking, I must say that the reason this place has two stars instead of one is that the desk staff were wonderful. They were friendly and check-in/out was seamless. Should I ever return to Rotorua, I don't think I will be returning to the Millennium Hotel. read more

The Millennium is a little worn but in good condition. The location right downtown and a short walk to the lake is excellent. It's a good-sized hotel, with with a large, open entrance lobby where there is plentiful seating, a bar, and a restaurant. Another restaurant is downstairs beside the pool, and the outdoor spaces include two very green courtyards. We tried the buffet breakfast in the downstairs restaurant one morning, which we found to be surprisingly expensive and not particularly special for the cost; after we did that once, we made sure we were prepared for other options afterward by picking up pastries or breakfast snacks from places around town the night before. The rooms are nice and clean, although with a little bit of mold/mildew in bathroom. They're comfortably sized as well. I thought the bed was comfortable, as was the plush reading chair. There are small balconies at least on those rooms with the pretty lake views, which was nice. I don't know if it's the case in all the rooms, but just a caution that the heater in our room swung significantly between heating and ambient air; this resulted in regular adjustment of clothing layers and bed coverings. Came in at 11am from AKL and the receptionist said check in was at 2. fair enough we went to explore and came back, it's 2.40pm (spent 20min at the front desk as the receptionist didn't seem to know what was happening at all), to be told that the rooms aren't even ready to be checked in to. And while at reception, an elderly Karen cut in front of us and the receptionist had no issue with checking her in, or calling her out for cutting us who have already been waiting for long enough...let's hope the stay is good read more

Our family travels extensively within US and internationally and this is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. 1. Breakfast buffet had a lot of selection but nothing was fresh or cooked right. Eggs were tasting powdered, Hashbrowns were cooked in old oil and the restaurant was under staffed so we had to wait for 20 mins for coffee. 2. Our bathroom kept having sewer smell. We were on 1st floor and looks like their plumbing was backing up and we kept getting the smell from this. 3. The pillow covers had mold imprint. When I took it to the reception they had absolutely no reaction or apology. All she asked was if I wanted a replacement. THIS HOTEL IS RANKED 51 in ROTORUA. We booked at the Millennium Hotel Rotorua because it had reasonably good reviews on TripAdvisor and is self described as a "four and a half star property." I should have done more research as the hotel has not lived up to expectations. It has the potential to be a nice place from its outside appearance and lobby but there is a lot of obvious deferred maintenance, such as the guest room doors, which are beat to hell, and walls that need painting. The shower oscillates in temperature wildly (and gets dangerously hot). There were also hairs in the bathroom left over from a previous guest or housekeeping. On the bright side, check in was quick, the beds are decent, the staff has been reasonably courteous and they have a full set of TV channels. read more

Nice hotel in a great location. Rooms are comfortable with beautiful views of the lake. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Had dinner in the bar our first night and it was actually very tasty. We had pizza and Thai beef salad. The breakfast buffet was over priced and not that good. I would recommend walking to one of the close by cafes instead. read more

Ram and Mihora are so helpful at the hotel! Our tour company did not tell us detailed schedule of the day, and we missed our Tamaki dinner pickup. Rain was pouring that night, taxi driver did not even know how to get to the dinner location, so Ram arranged to have Mihora to drop us off at the dinner which was 20 minutes away. Thank you both so much for that! It was a great dinner to attend to understand Maori culture if you are in Rotorua. I will definitely stay there again! read more
