Got a painting project? I've got two words of advice: Miller Paint. Sure, you might save a few cents on a gallon of paint someplace else, but know what you'll be missing? Excellent customer service! Today was my third visit here in about 7 years, and it was such a good experience, I had to sit down and write these 5-star words as soon as I got home just now. The staff at Miller Paint in Ballard are all professional, pleasant, and patient. They're also completely prepped for Pandemic Painting; the store is immaculate and set up for distancing. Easy to read signage is displayed throughout. They had clean pens for me to sign the payment slip at check-out. I felt safe here. I came for two types of tinted paint and supplies for two different outdoor projects. The clerk had a real eye for color, and he was perfectly happy to spend time showing me lots of swatches so I could compare tints and tones for both. Sheen is also an important factor when buying paint. He took me over to a giant wall display so I could compare the difference between semi-gloss, eggshell, flat, and everything else in between. Yes, I rubbed my fingers all over the samples to compare. Nice touch! The clerk even looked up my last order from 2017 in the computer system so we could accurately compare colors. I didn't remember ever submitting my information, but I'm glad I did. Miller Paint is so high-tech! But he went 'above and beyond' by suggesting we tint the primer base so that the final coat would look better. He spread a sample on cardboard so I could see the color. Do you think the guys at Home Depot have the time for this level of individualized service? Dream on! I'm lucky that I live so close by Miller Paint in Ballard. But even if you aren't a neighbor, you should still make a special trip out here to get what you need. I have done a lot of painting in my time, but I was about to try something new - painting an existing ledgestone fireplace. This raised many considerations from sealing primer, to sheen, to sealant. In looking for the best paint, I stumbled upon Miller Paint. I decided to call ahead for advice. Kat took my call and she was fantastic. Was sold 5 gallons of Cabot deck stain instead of siding stain for my Siding job. Now I have a shining building. I was told it was because Cabot changed the formula, not the case there is a siding specific blend I took for granted that Miller would sell me the right product.( I should have checked)Apparently siding stain would be a special order. I would have been fine with waiting. Within the next 10 years or so I have to reside what was painted anyhow due to neglect and age. Hopefully the finish will dull out some. In the mean time I can't paint over it according to Cabot due to the incompatibility of finishes. Suck is life. So shiny... read more

Went here for marine paint and they were able to make recommendations and fit us out with primer and a top-coat, both of which have held up well. This place knows what good old fashioned customer service means. I mistakenly walked in with a coupon to a competitor, but they were very friendly about it and honored the coupon (I would have purchased the paint regardless). They now have a customer for life. read more

Went in to a store devoid of any customers, I presented a large paint chip to get color matched. I was told it would take three days. I told them never mind. I drove up the road to Lowes and they completed the color match in about 10 minutes. read more

As Good as it Gets -- I was in the middle of a project in need of more stain when I discovered that Daly's retail stores had closed. The nice folks at Stoneway Hardware sent me to Miller in Ballard and they save the day. Not only were they able to mix exactly what I needed, I was greeted as I walked in despite all the clerks being busy checking out other customers on a busy Monday morning. You just don't get this kind of knowledge combine with service at the box stores. It's this kind of special experience that keeps me shopping local. read more

Went here for Daly stain now that Daly's in Wallingford is closed. Was unimpressed by the service person who lacked any air of customer service being important. As I always say, my preference is to shop local small businesses but the service needs to be there to keep me coming back. read more

They had some large 81/2 x 11 sheets of paint for $1.99 which I had been told I could buy a few different ones and then return. I actually think this is a great idea as it is easier to take home larger sheets of paper to compare and then bring it back, instead of leaving little cans of sample paint in one's garage that one does not really use. When I went to return and buy the paint selected, Kendra, an assistant manager according to her name tag, said that she could not take back. After explaining to her what I had been told, she said she would take it back "for me." After selecting the paint I wanted, I asked her for the coupon that they had for the current month and she said that they did not have that. When I told her that another salesperson had told me that I did not really need the coupon, Kendra seemed disinclined to give me the lower price. Came back latter to buy paint and this time brought the coupon that I had at home, she started to question the terms of the coupon, before reluctantly acknowledging that she was mistaken on the terms of the coupon. First of all, I do want to acknowledge that to my mind Kendra seemed at the opposite extreme of someone willing to go out of their way and help a customer. She in fact put up all kinds of barriers to do so. Perhaps she was having a bad day... several times she expressed a fear of losing her job if she did anything outside what the policies stipulated. I called this morning to ask if there were any specials on paint and was told that the Evolution paint is regularly $52.95 and will be $42.95 for the entire year. This left me scratching my head - in what parlance is that considered a sale as opposed to just the price if it is going to be around for the entire year. Now, I have supported Miller because it is a regional company, and I have previously had good experiences there. But these recent experiences have really left a bad taste in my mouth. Whether it is an individual being unhelpful, or a company culture fostering disempowerment of its employees, these are reasons to not support such a business. read more

Went in with the barest shadow of an idea of what I needed, assuming I knew more about paint than I actually did. Luckily, Quinn was there to steer me in the right direction as to what I needed for my project and to help me find a shade in the color that I wanted. I really wish I had gone to Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams for my current painting project. Those stores keep track of your paint purchases and can mix up paint quickly. Miller Paint doesn't seem to have a tracking system and are very put out when you try to order more of the same paint you bought previously. I will never use their paint again...the paint is fine but getting it made is such a hassle. read more

Love the Devine Paint and colors available at Miller Paint Store...however...watch out for the enamel! Taking over 3 weeks to dry and not be sticky...Miller says "it takes time to cure"...that long??? read more

I have not seen anyone better at choosing/coordinating color than Karen Keller. If it's important or if you are in doubt at all about your color choice please go see Karen Keller. We have used her services for exterior and interior. She just has a beautiful mastery of color. read more
