My husband and I are from the Philadelphia area, but whenever we're in the area visiting family on…read morethe first weekend of a month, you can bet we'll be hitting up the Hazen Flea Market. The flea market has a very wide variety of items from antiques to tools to food to household supplies to blankets and vegetables and dog bones. Not much changes from year to year, but you end up wanting to keep going back for the tried and true favorites (we tend to pick up big jugs of Maple Syrup when we're there), and the special finds (on our last trip we bought a beer stein). The prices aren't always cheap -- the vendors who deal in antiques tend to know what their wares are worth, but most are willing to haggle. You have to pay to park -- I believe it's $5. You can also park across the street in someone's yard for $2 if you'd like to save a little a walk a smidge farther. We typically go the yard route simply because it's a little quicker to get in and out. Expect to spend 2 hours or so walking around if you want to see everything and bring the sun screen -- there isn't a lot of tree cover.

While he did some work at Michelle's Cafe across the street, (great coffee and free wifi!), I dodged a few rain drops to do some some shopping. Main Street Emporium can be found inside Dan Smith's Candies (https://www.yelp.com/biz/dan-smiths-candies-and-gifts-clarion?hrid=PcJVc3SHwlsRnHN9fUcaYg). When you enter the candy store, the Emporium is straight ahead and all the way to the back, both upstairs and downstairs, with more merchandise located on the upstairs level. This is a store comprised of a variety of independent seller stalls, selling mostly second-hand goods. The store isn't huge, but was bigger than I expected it to be upstairs, with a couple unforeseen turns into a few different spaces on the second level. The range of seller booths contain a mishmash of antiques, decoratives, toys, games, collectibles, crafts, housewares, fashion accessories, jewelry, apparel, books, artwork, and a little bit of everything in between. There is even a live houseplant seller! That was a first; I have not seen live plants in this kind of store before. One of my purchases was a lovely potted spider plant for just five bucks! I also found an authentic Russ Troll for five bucks that had a shirt on that said "40 is not old if you are a tree."--this was perfect to go with my turning-40-brother's bingo bag gift I got him for his birthday! One oddball thing I always look for when I'm in a store like this too are topless mermaid figurines--and I found one for a buck! (Yes, they must be topless, because as a woman I know how ridiculous it would be to wear an uncomfortable seashell bra all day, and am certain a mermaid would never do such a preposterous thing, haha.) To round it out, we got a nice pile of vintage sci-fi books for two bucks a piece, something my husband and I collect. We found some great titles, including the full "The Fuzzies" trilogy! Checkout for the Emporium is the same counter as Dan Smith's Candies. If you are buying both Emporium goods and candies/gifts from Dan's, the friendly counter staff will ring you out at the same place. I had a really nice time rainy-day-perusing the shelves at Main Street Emporium. When we're back in the Clarion PA area, I'd surely stop in again to see what's new!

When we first walked in, I though it was a tiny little shop of knick knacks, post cards and toys. Boy was I wrong. There is a huge room behing that is filled with linens, cast iron pans, tea pots, fishing/hunting items, tools, cookie jars, hats, lunch boxes, kitchen utensils, and on and on. Beautiful crystal, decanters, pitchers, wall art, nursery items, pyrex, lamps. OK, you get the idea. The owner is an absolute doll. She told me to open drawers and look inside things because there was stuff everywhere. :D She also let us know there is a warehouse of items that are too large to fit in the store, like furniture and lawmowers and such. Maybe give them call if you are looking for something in particular to see if they have it available. From what I see in store, and what they seem to have elsewhere, they just may have what you need. Even if they don't have it, they can 'keep an eye open' for it when they are out on their buying trips. We did end up purchasing a few items. That's a few more than I planned. There is a gravel parking lot on the side of the building with a path leading from the lot to the entrance. The prices are good. If you are looking for something specific (set of dishes, a collectible, a ceiling light) or just like to wander, you should definitely stop in. Those little hand made aprons are adorable, and that 'Cow jumped over the Moon' lamp - perfect.

( they wouldnt even allow her to unwrap her items and see what they were taking )they were extremely careless with my mother's possessions (that they didnt take). made awful comments that they don't pay for memories. they're lucky I was not out there or I would have sent him packing. The $200 they gave her was an insult to say the least, for probably 5 to 10+ grand worth of items. they took, paid less than pennies on the dollar. I will NEVER do business with them and they ought to be ashamed of themselves. idk how they even sleep at night ripping off our community.

And I had to ask for the tea list. Young girl seemed put out the moment we came in. But tried to be more polite towards the end. She never asked how we were. We stayed for about 35m. They use HT tea which I'm not a fan of and they use only one tea bag for a shared 16-24oz tea pot. My mug was a little dirty and stained. We had to ask for sugar. My sister said her Ruben sandwich was great and her ice tea was fine. Disclosure: we're all from a large city and maybe this is high quality for this little town. One of the biggest off putting part was seeing the naked hairy arm pits of a large man while trying to enjoy a special semi eloquent daughter/mother date. We dressed up a little and are not loud people. There really should be a certain dress code and volume control (large man was part of a large loud party) for a "tea room". Jeanne lives in this area and knew that if she loved this place than I would! And she was right!!! It is right down the road from our friend Buster's venue the Cook Forest Skillsino, so the location was perfect for me to remember. We were warmly welcomed by the owner Linda. She was so genuine and friendly. Jeanne has known Linda for a long time and she explained that I was visiting from Florida for the first time for hunting season. During the lake effect storm hitting us, the venue had a magical effect like a big warm hot chocolate in front of a fireplace while hanging out with friends. The venue is a lot larger than I thought and every section of the store is unique. I can explain a few: a room full of pickles, pickle related items, jams, fudge, chips, and yummy snacks; a section full of merch about pickles like t-shirts, pens, stickers, ornaments, etc. ( we bought a t-shirt and stickers, chips , a 2 pieces of fudge (we ate the yummy fudge in the car); a section of nostalgic Smokey the Bear merch ( yes, of courseI I bought a t-shirt); a section is nostalgic toys and art (I bought a Coca-Cola polar bear keychain); a section with puppy treats; a section with Nik knacks and home decor; and several craft collections from local artists like wood burning ( I bought a keychain) , jewelry, wallets, purses, and yes, I had to buy a baked potato microwave bag... because I always give mine away and I again need one for myself! Did I get to look at everything? No, it's that much cool stuff! 32,000 sq ft of awesomeness!!! But the best and priceless treasure was the owner's hospitality and genuine friendliness. We had a few more adventures to explore, being this was our first priority stop... and I have to say, as Jeanne and Linda caught up on their latest news, I felt like part of their warm friendship as I shopped around. Please don't miss this treasure chest full of goodies and the opportunity to meet this sweetheart of an owner! Honestly, from the outside, this looks more like a strip mall than a 'Mall'. We walked in the…read moreetrance marked Dubois Mall between Big Lots and Ross and sure enough, it's a 'Mall'. Besides anchor stores Ross and Big Lots, there is a large J.C.Penney. The interior public areas are quite wide, with high ceilings. An average sized Bath & Body works and GNC are located in this section of the mall while many of the other businesses are smaller 'mom and pop' type businesses including a kitchen store, a craft store, a remodeling business and HW Book Peddlers to name a few. Wandering down toward J.C. Penney, there is a wide, bare hallway that looks like a dead end. Being of a curious nature, I wandered down there to find another section of the mall. Not as big, it runs parallel to the other section and J.C. Penney is also accessible from here. The mall office is located off this corridor and in front of this was a display of moving dinosaurs! That was a fun surprise.This section includes DuBois Cafe, Uzi's Pastries, two recruiters, Claire's and a nail salon plus more. Like many malls in America, this one is hanging on; not the haven it was in the 80's or 90's. The anchor stores are definitely worth stopping in to visit, and there are several discount stores of one type or another scattered throughout worth a look. That McNulty's looks like a childs heaven with all the stuffed animals! One area is set aside with arcade games. A few other game machines are scattered throughout the mall as well as several soda machines. Empty shop windows have been painted with cartoon characters which is festive. The wide hall ways make a nice space to stretch your legs on a cold, rainy day. There is lots of parking and a fair number of mall entrances. You can easily spend an afternoon window shopping. Who knows you may, like us, find a couple of items to buy. Then stop by the cafe for a snack or meal and walk off the calories or sit on a bench and do a bit of people watching. There are also several other businesses that share the parking lot including a restaurant and a movie theater. I understand the beginning of the Beaver Meadow Trail starts somewhere near the Mall. I'll have to go find that. When it stops raining.
