Honestly, from the outside, this looks more like a strip mall than a 'Mall'. We walked in the etrance marked Dubois Mall between Big Lots and Ross and sure enough, it's a 'Mall'. Besides anchor stores Ross and Big Lots, there is a large J.C.Penney. The interior public areas are quite wide, with high ceilings. An average sized Bath & Body works and GNC are located in this section of the mall while many of the other businesses are smaller 'mom and pop' type businesses including a kitchen store, a craft store, a remodeling business and HW Book Peddlers to name a few. Wandering down toward J.C. Penney, there is a wide, bare hallway that looks like a dead end. Being of a curious nature, I wandered down there to find another section of the mall. Not as big, it runs parallel to the other section and J.C. Penney is also accessible from here. The mall office is located off this corridor and in front of this was a display of moving dinosaurs! That was a fun surprise.This section includes DuBois Cafe, Uzi's Pastries, two recruiters, Claire's and a nail salon plus more. Like many malls in America, this one is hanging on; not the haven it was in the 80's or 90's. The anchor stores are definitely worth stopping in to visit, and there are several discount stores of one type or another scattered throughout worth a look. That McNulty's looks like a childs heaven with all the stuffed animals! One area is set aside with arcade games. A few other game machines are scattered throughout the mall as well as several soda machines. Empty shop windows have been painted with cartoon characters which is festive. The wide hall ways make a nice space to stretch your legs on a cold, rainy day. There is lots of parking and a fair number of mall entrances. You can easily spend an afternoon window shopping. Who knows you may, like us, find a couple of items to buy. Then stop by the cafe for a snack or meal and walk off the calories or sit on a bench and do a bit of people watching. There are also several other businesses that share the parking lot including a restaurant and a movie theater. I understand the beginning of the Beaver Meadow Trail starts somewhere near the Mall. Ummmm I saw two Amish dudes playing a VR video game. I saw a mechanical dinosaur. I also saw a lot of vacancies. Ross dress for less and Dunhams are the best shopping portions. It also has tractors, random tractors throughout. ... awesome!!! read more

The DuBois Mall is a beautifully complicated mess as it's actually two different malls and a strip shopping center in one facility. Mall is easy to find being a short drive off of Interstate 80. The strip shopping center has stores with and without mall entrances including Big Lots, Staples, and Ross. The main concourse of the mall is clearly dated, but at some point was renovated with cheap tile carpeting. Vacancy is significant with very few national chains left, it's mostly local businesses. JCPenney is the anchor and heart of this mall. It's a nice, reasonably sized, and well stocked store. Should JCPenney ever leave, it will basically be the end of DuBois Mall. What makes DuBois Mall interesting is the back wing, which has to be a later addition. It is beautifully designed with a ceiling that is reminiscent of the York Galleria/The Johnstown Galleria. A cute little court with trees is located in the center, but this wing store wise is largely vacant. Most of the malls limited dining options are located here. The former Sears remains vacant. I can't tell you what will happen with the DuBois Mall, but it's in a lot of trouble. The age and design of the main concourse is one of the key issues. It would need a massive renovation to bring it up to modern shopping standards and I doubt those resources are available. The back wing of the mall and the former Sears could be converted into a small/medium sized medical facility as it's already modern. DuBois Mall just really doesn't serve a clear purpose at this point. read more

Very interesting concept for a mall. This isn't your typical mall where it is filled with your run of the mill chain stores. That's not to say that there aren't chain stores here, but not as many as other malls. This is more of your community mall than a destination mall. If you pull up their website and look at their directory it may seem like the chain stores outweigh the mom and pop stores. You have to take into consideration that the directory includes stores that are not actually part of the mall, but are basically mall adjacent. Some of those stores are located on outparcels rather than having that cohesive indoor walking we are all use to. For this community I bet that it is a perfect fit. The shape of the mall is very unique. It is all one level and basically the shape of the letter S. It was confusing for me at first being that this has been my only visit so far. I'm not sure how the mall walkers really get a workout here. Some of the walkways are nothing more than a small corridor. No food court to speak about, in fact there is a restaurant that takes up a two store fronts in different walkways. I also believe there is a pretzel place inside, but that is about it for food. The mall needs some updating, but it's not a direly needed thing to be done. The older look gives it some charm still. The anchor stores are quite different than what you expect to find in a mall. Ross's Dress for Less and Big Lots really don't scream mall, although Sears and JCPenney do. It's worth a stop to check out or grab an item if you are travelling the turnpike and decided this is where you are going to spend the night before you continue on your way. read more
