My son's school referred my son to"Have Dreams" for evaluation to determine his eligibility for…read morespecial education services. It was done by Dr. Jeff Salt, and the experience was awful and disturbing. The place itself is decrepit, and somewhat creepy, with lots of long and dark halls. There is nobody to welcome you or assist you when you get there. Dr. Salt's office is messy and not child friendly. Dr. Salt's report was loaded with misstatements, fabrications, omissions, and negative exaggerations. He openly admitted that in his practice he had worked with hundreds of children and none have lost their diagnosis - even though the research data indicates that as many as 10 to 20 percent of children with ASD lose their diagnosis. Dr. Salt does not believe that is possible. He made me very uncomfortable, and he made my son cry during the evaluation. It was pretty clear to me why he, with his negative disposition, is not able to help children in his practice. It also speaks badly of the TEACCH method that Have Dreams employs. Also, Dr. Salt asked me and my husband to fill out a form asking for personal and sensitive information about ourselves (about medications we take, past miscarriages, divorces, degrees, etc.), which was not part of our son's evaluation. But he did not offer or ask us to sign any statement of privacy or confidentiality; instead, he laughed at us when we asked him for one, saying the information was just for his own use. As parents, we will recommend anyone thinking about going to Have Dreams or working with Dr. Salt to stay far away, and consider alternatives with better results than zero (or worse). Please, PLEASE, stay away.

This is the first time I've brought a shelter animal home without major health issues. After a God-awful experience fostering for a cat shelter on the north side of the city -- which lied to me repeatedly about the foster cat's condition and then heartlessly euthanized her -- C.A.R.E. was 180 degrees different and a breath of fresh air. Often shelter cats are underweight and saddled with at least one type of parasite, despite the shelter's best efforts. That was not the case here; in fact, the cat got a clean bill of health on her first vet trip, which she handled like a pro, leaving a trail of admirers behind her. That said, extra credit to C.A.R.E. for treating the less robust kitties, with cancer and similar illnesses, that other shelters are too cheap to deal with. After a text from "Dee", with no identifying information, I ascertained who she was and responded affirmatively re: the appointment date and time. I then received a text from her confirming our appointment and explaining that she was about to send a text that I needed to "read CAREFULLY". No such text came. I reached out for clarification, and got no response. The location is a residential street, and my map app took me to the house across the street from hers. A very nice gentleman came to the door, and I immediately recognized my mistake. "This isn't the fingerprinting location, is it?" I said. He laughed and said no, then asked me if the business was an actual house. I said yes, and he said that when I find it to let him know because he also needed some fingerprinting done. We chatted for a moment about what a great gig it would be to have that kind of business right from your own home. I apologized again, he told me "no worries!" And I left. Soon, after cross checking texts and a couple of emails from my agency, I was able to determine that the place I needed was right across the street. I drove there and parked in the driveway, as I'd been instructed to. As I approached the front door, I was looking at my phone to verify that I was at the right place as I rang the door bell. A pinched-faced, unfriendly woman opened the door just a smidgen, reached way over to a small, pale yellow note tucked under her mailbox and tapped it furiously. It instructed to go to the back door. I said I was so sorry, and headed down the driveway to her back door. She flung it open, visibly furious. I apologized again and began to tell her how I'd initially gone to the wrong house. She cut me off and screamed, "YOU DISTURBED MY NEIGHBOR AND YOU CANNOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS?!" I backed up and said, "Nevermind. I'm leaving." This caused her to scream, "I DO NOT WANT TO WORK WITH YOU!" Which was rather irrelevant considering I'd just said I was leaving. It turns out that my agency already paid her "no refunds" fee, which they didn't mind but which made me even angrier. I admit, I look a mess. No makeup, swollen eyes. My 17 year old dog just died, and the grief shows on my face, making me look a wreck. None of that should matter, of course, but I got the distinct vibe that I wasn't up to par on her esthetic standards, on top of my other egregious actions. Word to the wise: AVOID THIS NASTY WOMAN. She told us they were brothers, but with no proof. All she kept saying is that they were bonded...don't let people sucker you into taking two cats that way! She didn't care at all about the welfare of the cats. Then she proceeded to tell us that the cats were $260 a piece, when it is posted on the website that the adoption fees were $150 per cat! She vindictive and money hungry and is not at all concerned for the wellbeing of the cats!!! It's very sad for people to use their control over something like that when an animal could have a wonderful life in a warm and loving home!

(Perhaps they wanted to run a background check on me - I don't know.). When I questioned why, they said something about too many returned adoptions. I'm not sure I follow the logic on just how making me wait would make me more inclined to keep the cat, but whatever. So, I then asked what options we had for arranging an interview/adoption, and their response was "What is your hurry? Adoptions are a 20-year commitment." As if I didn't already know that. This ain't my first rodeo. I can understand their desire to make sure their cats find good homes, but immediately assuming, and even accusing that I would NOT provide a good home is not the way to do this. I responded by telling them I found their suggestion more than a little insulting, but played along and explained myself and the housing situation the new adoptee would be encountering. I have heard nothing back since. I don't think this person is serious about finding good homes for the cats entrusted to their care. I suggest looking elsewhere.

I received 80 cards for $10 and cannot wait to write on them. Each card is packed in its own plastic sleeve and some are really cute and festive pop-up cards. They are really good quality paper too. I did have to pull several cards that seemed odd or inappropriate but otherwise it was a great deal. It's a little far from my service area to drive to their site in Buffalo Grove, but I look forward to more orders in the future. Note that they only ship on orders of $300 and up.
