It's like they're taking photos of items putting them into Google seeing the highest prices they're being listed for and then matching that price not even bothering to see what the items actually sell for. I love this place. I have been a supporter of WINGS, for many years. My husband and I, along with several friends, used to do motorcycle rides in support of WINGS. It was always so much fun. I love what they do and I love to donate. I just dropped off about 6, or 7 bags of clothes, etc. at their Gold Rd. Location the other day. I dropped off bags of donations -- it's easy to drive around back -- 10am - 2? -- and I like the mission that donations go to support those trying to break the cycle of domestic violence. My bags filled up the cart so maybe monitor the donations more closely so that the carts are continually emptied -- several cars pulled up to donate while I was using a cart. This is a small thrift store in a strip mall with a parking problem. (There are signs telling Wings customers specifically where they can't park.) Very well organized inside. It contains mostly quality goods (clothes to household to furniture to jewelry) priced up higher than most thrift stores. However, you sometimes find special items that aren't carried in the Salvation Armies or Goodwills that make it worth stopping in. read more

The cause is a great one. I appreciate it and would will continue to contribute my excellent quality, slightly used clothing. However, I feel I must warn potential donors that there is a woman who is a regional manager, I guess (because I have seen her at more than one store in the past), who is a horrible, nasty person. For example, I was shopping one day at Wings and this diminutive woman blows in on a mission to chastise and belittle the poor worker on duty. She yelled at the woman in front of the customers (me) and had the poor thing almost in tears. I heard her called "Diane". The organization should let this vile person go immediately. WINGS helps homeless and abused women and children by offering integrated services that meet their needs for shelter, education, guidance and support. This resale shop, down the road from Golf Mill, is set up to help raise money for this organization. They also have two other locations in Palatine and Schaumburg. Decently sized store, crammed full of pretty much anything you could want. Clothes, toys, electronics, furniture, jewelry, household goods, you name it. Pretty hit or miss though. One time I was there and could have easily dropped $100 on stuff - yesterday when I went I spent $1.63 on 2 cookbooks. But hey, isnt that the thrill of thrifting? read more

I love this place because it is organized and clean but I think some of the prices are way too much for a thrift/resale shop. The best time to come is on half-off days and that is when I can shop and buy without feeling uncomfortable. Having said that, my hubby and I stopped in last Sunday, and lo and behold, it was half-off day. Bought a ton of stuff for all under $5. You can't go wrong picking up the books here. At 59c for a kid's book, on half-off day, that makes them only 30 cents. Perfect for my Little Free Library. Also found a few more gems.... Overall, love this place! read more

This is my favorite "thrift" shop of all time. I've been coming here since high school and I find a gem if not TEN every time I go. Since moving away I've yet to find something as special as this place. I've found countless one of a kind paintings, designer clothes, shoes, bags, furniture, you name it! I see some reviews calling out the prices but that's why they call it a resale shop. This ain't your everyday Savers with cheap clothing and items falling apart. I've shopped this store many times over the past few years. This store has gone through many transitions but I have to say it's been getting worse. The prices have drastically gone up...its at the point where it's cheaper to shop a Plato's Closet, Marshall's, TJ Max and eBay (seriously). The employees are extremely rude, I had asked a lady if the item was mispriced and the lady blew up at me, basically saying if I don't like the prices then get out!! She wouldn't say her name but I know she's the manager, brown hair , late 50s, dresses like she's in her 20s...3rd mid life crisis I guess and just angry. I started donating gently used donations to this location about 2 months ago. The last I was there, donating about 5 bags of excellent condition clothing, I had an eye opening experience. As an employee was in taking my bags, I noticed 2 men dragging donations out to the very large dumpster...and throwing them out! All the while some woman with a cigarette dangling out of her mouth was barking orders at them, I'm assuming she is the boss. I asked the employee assisting me why would they throw away donations, someone in great need would appreciate them and if they were going to throw away donations, at least tell the donors that their items may end up in the trash. She just replied that they require donations to be in "EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION" because they get "TOO MUCH AS IT IS"......wow!! So I went dumpster diving and found very sellable items and loaded up my SUV and drove them over to Sparrows Nest. They were very appreciative of the donations. This was so disheartening to witness, I will never, never, NEVER donate to WINGS again. I'll give to a more appreciative organization. You have to ask yourself, how many donations from the public have just ended up in the trash. P.S. Keep your dumpsters out of site, especially not right next to the donation in take area where the donors will see their items piled in there... and please do not take your smoke breaks in that same area! The manager can be nice sometimes, but one lady with blond grayish hair and bangs is really really nasty. She is not appreciative of donations and barks at customers. She makes the place not a nice place to be. On the flip side, there are some bargains to be had. You just have to deal with the nasty blondish lady with bangs or go when she is not working. We just dropped off a trunk load of baby items that I had purchased for my grandkids. Everything was in great shape but the reaction when we started coming in with our items wasn't welcoming or seeming appreciated at all. We had to get approval from someone before we could bring anything else in. Maybe I'm confused but isn't this for mothers with children in need and shouldn't it be the mothers decision on what she feels is best suited for her children? I was told they usually didn't accept children's things because of germs. Ridiculous. I would think that children's gear and toys would be some of the most important items women with children would be looking for. I have donated a number of items there over the years and I have never felt warmth or appreciation from anyone at that store. Maybe it's time to look elsewhere to donate my things. read more

As a thrift store, it is hit or miss, but its profits help homeless and abused women which alone earns four stars. It is a fairly big space, so you don't get the claustrophobic feeling from the cramped quarters in some other resale shops. I think this is definitely a place where you have to come early to get the best pick. On my last visit, the one item I would have snatched up in a heartbeat - a Gucci purse - was....in another customer's basket. Damn. I haven't had much luck with garb for me. The womens clothes haven't proved very designer-oriented. But I always find nice things for my toddler. I think each item was $2; an incredible bargain. They had an interesting selection of toys - I saw a set of the original Colorforms (which they don't make anymore). And in the wayback machine, I saw a Gone with the Wind board game. It was obviously vintage and, if you were a GWTW fan, an amazing score. (for $2.00!). The cashier gave me a coupon to use on my next purchase, and gave me a genuine thank you for coming in. I'll make it a regular haunt - but I'll make sure to go early. read more

I like thrift stores/resale shops A LOT. So I visit my favorites pretty regularly. This is one of them. I LIKE Wings for several reasons. The biggest is that the store provides support for homeless and abused women, and that's something I can totally get behind. The staff is very friendly and helpful, even when I wander in right before closing. Here are a few more reasons: 1) Good furniture. The only thing that stops me from buying more is the size of my car. (I'm limited to what I can cram into or tie on top of it.) If you like quality wood furniture, you should definitely come check out their selection. So far, my best "score" was an awesome wing-back chair in outstanding condition. FYI, you can have them hold your purchase till you can return with a larger vehicle. 2) Excellent clothing. The regular clothes are in good condition and sorted by size. They've also got name-brand and high-end brand names. You get what you pay for, so the prices are in between a thrift store and a consignment shop, but the quality is very good. (However, the mens' section is pretty small compared to the ladies'. The kids' section seems large too, with quality stuff. ) 3) China sets. This is one of the few stores I've seen that actually has complete (or nearly so) dinner services. Some of them are everyday plates, some are fine china. 4) A large book section. I regularly find recent releases here. They've also got DVD's, audiobooks and computer games too. They regularly have sales. Be sure to get on the email list, because there are periodic events that are cool. I went to the grand re-opening this December and it was a lot of fun. Pros: Great cause-- as mentioned by others, WINGS provides social services to women and children affected by domestic violence. So, you can feel good about shopping here. (Extra star for this!) Also, the volunteers who work here are very helpful and kind and seem to really appreciate the customers. Like Kathy R. said, it's a big space and it's very light and bright in there, so you don't feel like the walls are coming in on you. Also, it seems very clean-- I mean, the clothes are not the hippest around, but they're clean and in good condition. The stuff is also pretty decently organized, so you don't have to dig through piles to find something good. Diverse selection of goods-- toys, books, housewares, furniture, along with men's, women's and children's clothes. Cons: As mentioned above, the clothes are pretty dated and it's pretty hit or miss on finding something. Still, it's worth perusing if you're in the neighborhood-- I saw a woman walk out with a brand new Pop Culture DVD Trivial Pursuit game as I came in (if only I had gotten there first!) read more

I have to agree that as thrift stores go this one is quite decent. Most city thrift stores economize their space by filling up on clothes and small housewares, WINGS is different. Out in the 'burban sprawl they have room to spread out so their store has great offerings of furniture and books. Other pros about WINGS is that many of the larger items, such as furniture, have scheduled price tags, so you'll know that that $45 chair will be $30 next week, even though it was originally $60 two weeks ago. For a thrift store, they can be a bit pricey, but you are probably paying for the cleanliness and organization of the store, something that often is unheard of in thrift stores. Also, they are open on Sundays, if you are planning a trip out to Hadassah to same day. read more

I've been meaning to give this place a go since it was opened because of the great cause it supports, but I never had a reason to go to thrift-type shops... until now. I am moving into a new place that is bigger then my last and not taking any furniture with me. Instead of trying to furnish a place with all new things, I decided to go the cheaper route and buy second-hand everything then replace with nicer items periodically. This place has AWESOME furniture! I was sad that I just bought a couch from someone on Craigslist because they have wonderful couches. They are of good quality and condition, and are very resonably priced. But the couches aren't what I was most impressed with. They have these heavy, solid wood dressers and buffets that are on clearance: $25-$30. OMG!! I have to have that buffet. It's near mint condition. I plan to rent a truck and grab it later today. Hope it's still there! Fingers-crossed!!! I have only been thrifting for about 3 weeks, and I am hooked. I never shop the clothes, but I have found some great kitchen and furniture items here. I will definitely be back to keep my eye out for the perfect kitchen table. read more

I have been to the Wings Niles location and just love them. I have gotten evening dresses like Vera Wang, leather boots and shoes and some cool pieces of small furniture. I love their charity and what they do with the money so they are always my first pick for donations. My friend and I shopped their one day and she walked out with 6 cutest blazers and jackets!! anyway...as with anything retail....it is a hit or miss.
