What an odd morning my Saturday trip to Powerflex Studio made for. I had no idea what to expect. It…read moreis one of those odd gimmicky fitness things that is there, so I must try. Powerflex uses powerplate machines, TRX, kettlebells, and weights to get you into shape. Powerplate machines look like the lovechild between an elliptical and a giant, flat boulder. The main premise is that you stand, plank, step, or lean on the machine while it vibrates really quickly, making your muscles work extra to keep you stabilized. I'm uncoordinated and can tell you that you have no major risk of falling off, at least no more so than on a regular gym machine (I've done it before). The studio itself is somewhat difficult to find. Once you find the door, you need to be buzzed up. The room is small but full of really all the equipment you need to get a great workout. There are only three powerplate machines in there, I believe. I am not sure what the typical sessions look like, but mine was just with one other person and a trainer. It's amazing to get personalized attention and the trainer was friendly and really gave me a great workout. It wasn't the highest intensity cardio, but you will sweat and more weight work can be added to up your burn. I was surprisingly sore the day after, so I'd believe that the whole stabilizing concept works on some level. There was a man there who was rehabbing from an injury who has found it a really great alternative to running or other higher intensity exercise. Definitely check it out if you're looking for something different.

Great intense full body work out that shows clear results. You can make it as hard or as light as you chose. Instructors pay personalized attention to each of us and they will adapt the exercises to your weak/strong points and your passed injuries. After your first session your body will likely be on pain for 2-3 days, but do not let that put you off. It means it really works and very soon your body will get used and you won't get sore muscles. It is only up to 3 people per session (on some special sessions it may be 4 people). You get very personalized attention by the instructors, who are great, very friendly people. Many of us are regulars, so it feels very familiar. It is really good and worthy, I cannot recommend Power Flex Studios and it's trainers enough.

Seriously though, if I am coming to the gym, especially GymBox, I have a good idea of what I want and need to work out. The gym is my holy place, I go there with the biggest headphones I have and still manage to get bothered. I can't STAND to be constantly bombarded and stared at by the VPTs who are so obviously trying to size you up on whether or not you're someone they can convince to "talk about your fitness goals." Mate, my fitness goals are to finish a damn workout without you talking to me! Obviously their jobs are to be fit - mine is to make money so I can go to an expensive gym. GymBox, if your business model is to harass your members so that they never wanna go again, then you've succeeded. I've now been to all London GymBoxs all with the same experience. Please VPTs, F*** off & let me workout!!!!

There's a class using drumsticks. So great. I haven't even tried all the classes I want yet as I only joined a few weeks ago. The actual gym floor is also great with up to date cardio machines and plenty of weights machines (which I don't really use). They have a DJ playing music after work. Love it. It gets four stars rather than five because: 1. It's quite expensive if you're not on a corporate membership 2. You can only book classes from 7am the day before the class (e.g. to book classes on a Wednesday you can only book them from 7am Tuesday) 3. Classes get full very quickly (though keep checking back throughout the day as people cancel a lot) 4. The changing rooms could be a bit more luxe as they're fairly basic (clean though!)

I've been suffering from chronic back pain for several months and my GP unhelpfully told me to 'stop doing things that hurt your back'. Noelene, on the other hand, has worked with me carefully to diagnose the exact problems, giving me exercises that are personalised for my specific problem. I had a spinal fusion for scoliosis at age 12 and was a bit anxious to find a physiotherapist who understood my physical condition (and wouldn't make it worse) and I've only had two appointments so far but already I'm noticing I have better posture and while I still experience pain, it's gotten better. I'm paying out of pocket which makes it quite expensive, but Noelene is not pressuring me to have more appointments with her than necessary, and I probably will only need to see her once more. The initial assessment/diagnosis appointment (45 mins) cost £70 and follow-up appointments (30 mins) cost £55.

I have spinal cord damage which affects my walking and hand function, along with many other complications. Great workout. Instructors are all super nice, know their stuff and watch you like a hawk. No shirking or bad technique allowed. Good for inherently lazy folk, like me. Very popular so classes booked out months in advanced. Excellent wait-list system, however, so generally one can get into classes without much trouble. The minus one star is for the showers which are perpetually clogged, curtains in shower stalls and changing cubicles which don't fully close and hairdryers which blow out cold air. Most people go home to shower. Expensive. (This is London... what isn't?) Cheapest you can get classes is about £16-17 if you buy a course of 40 so be prepared for a big initial outlay.

Not knowing this, I called up kxu gym based in Sloane square and asked the member of staff on the phone this who had said this is fine and told me there is spaces available in the class. I attended the gym class under this basis, upon arrival the guy whom I spoke to on the phone had booked me into the class. behind him was a very rude member of staff who I believe could of been the manager, the manager at points was speaking Italian to other staff members. The manager had then taken over the booking and asked me if I have previously been to the gym and I replied yes he then said I cant go the class unless I pay. I explained to the manager that I have been told this isn't the case and travelled to the class under this basis. He was extremely rude and unapologetic. this practise off professionalism has prevented me from attended this gym class again- the class that had only been booked to half its capacity bases on the miscommunicated information they should of allowed me to attend at no cost. by doing this this would have cost the business nothing but a regular customers whom was aiming to attend weekly being a local resident I was made aware about this gym as my sister and very close friend has attended the gym classes here over an uncountable amount of times.
