Paraphernalia is a gem. I use the word in the most literal sense, because if you walk toward the…read moreback of the shop you'll find some of the most beautiful jewelry in Will County. There's aquamarine and opal earrings, peridot and garnet bracelets, diamond and pearl necklaces, emerald and ruby bands...you'll be in awe by the selection inside the long glass cases. I began going as a kid, tagging along with my dad when he would buy my mom piece of jewelry for a special occasion. I loved accompanying him and having a say in what he should get her. The last few years I've gone on my own, spending many hours trying on diamond engagement rings and wedding sets. Sue, the owner, has always been gracious (and patient) in letting me wear and admire ring after ring. Some of her rings have a good story behind them, and I always enjoy hearing where certain pieces came from, their style, etc. (Fun fact: her oldest ring is over 200 years old!) Last December, I FINALLY bought a ring from Paraphernalia, which I like to refer to as my "back up engagement ring". The antique engagement ring--dating back to the 1890s--has a row of five stones of mine-cut diamonds and alternating sapphires. It's simple, it's elegant, and--most importantly--it's from an antique from a shop I cherish. For those of you looking for a piece of jewelry, I encourage you to pay a visit to Paraphernalia before walking into any other jewelry store. Once you see all that glistens and sparkles inside Sue's glass cases, you're going to want to stay awhile and try on all of them.

It went under new ownership in 2016, and the store feels less cluttered than it did under the previous ownership. There are several vendors carrying both antique and modern items. Here are some things that jumped out at me during my most recent visit in February 2016: -costume jewelry -woodworking for the walls -tea cups and saucers -mod cookie jars -retro glassware -boutique clothing -original Pyrex bowls (individual and sets) -dining tables -a set of green velvet and wooden chairs -faux fur coats -bar cabinets -beaded purses -porcelain dolls -military jackets -china sets -coins I picked up a vintage lace gown from 1965 for just $18. It was an incredible find! I would highly recommend this spot given the size and abundance of options. It's a must-shop!

If that's what you're looking for I recommend shopping at this place. They are not respecting our elderly and most vulnerable of society by paying lip service to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Six foot distancing signs and mask required signs on the door. However, I was the only person staff, bob "the owner", or anyone else wearing a mask and practicing six foot distancing.
