The Ames and Iowa City stores more closely adhere to Cyclone and Hawkeye merchandise (t-shirts, stickers, notebooks, magnets, etc.), plus other politically progressive themes. I had a couple nice visits during my recent stay in Ames and found that there's always something that catches my interest no matter how many times I've been through.
