I was hesitant to go into yoga at all because I'm heavier and self conscious. I've mainly attended classes with Natascha as the instructor and I love how she give pose variation options. If you need to ease up to a pose or want to try for more of a challenge. The space is ample and simple, parking is plentiful and easy to get to and the location can't be beat. Close to so many stores and other things that you really can't go wrong. It's not out of the way or in a too busy of an area. It's really a great place to check out and begin or expand your yoga practice.

My favorite instructor are of course the director, Susan Goulet, Meredith, Kathleen and Alex. They are the real deal, do not learn yoga from a dvd or a weekend training course. All of the instructors are passionate about body alignment and monitor the class very closely. Workshops take place every year with a renowned national Iyengar yoga instructor for 3 days followed by the wonderful Yoga Festival. This is one of the only places I miss about Milwaukee. Namaste!

My experience at Riverwest Yogashala was very negative. Everyone, no matter what your yoga background (unless you've studied Iyengar before) is required to take the 12 week intro class. I found myself mixed in with people with absolutely no experience, which I felt held back the progress of the group. Every single thing had to be explained in minute detail. Splitting the class to absolute beginner and people with experience in other yoga styles would have been much better. I also found the instructor and her assistant to be very self-absorbed. Before classes started I made a point of telling the instructor that I have some deformities of the foot. For a studio that says it prides itself on it's staffs knowledge of the body, I was horrified when the instructor looped a yoga strap around my big toe and MANUALLY tried to rotate it into "proper" alignment. It incident was both inappropriate and embarrassing, to say the least! The studio space itself is spacious, however in my opinion, very dirty. There always seemed to be a dust bunny hopping around the room or a hairball of someone else's hair drifting across the floor. Because it is on a main through fare and not air conditioned, in the summer the street noise from the open windows or the noise makes it impossible to hear the teacher. Students are also often required to gather around the instructor to watch her demonstrate the post, people were constantly standing on and walking across other people's mats which I found to be unsanitary to say the least. Sorry to say, I would not recommend this place.

Holding things like Community Gift rotating every other sunday. Its free or donation based for hour and a half Iyengar yoga class. This is a nonprofit yoga center. They also have Restorative yoga classes on rotating friday. I really like this class i place lots of physical demands on my body and i really enjoy restoring my mind and body back to a peaceful state. Its important and i think everyone needs to take an hour and a half out twice a month to put everything back in alignment. also this class is $5 again all about making the practice of yoga an affordable and awesome experience. You will find this studio is welcoming of everyone and all abilities. They will work with you to make sure its right and wont let you fall behind. I cant say enough about this place really. Its the least pretentious yoga studio i have yet to go to (we all know what i mean) plus with the cozy apartment like feel it is like all the things i love about river west in 1 room. Peaceful, happy, cohesive, art, etc. There is absolutely no excuse for yogi not to check this place out. :)

I was referred to Brian at Banyan Tree Healing from my sister and I am so thankful she found him! I…read morestarted visiting him due to a back injury unfortunately but have not continued to go because I enjoy it so much. He has such a different technique than I am used to-meaning that he used a much more gentle approach as opposed to digging into knots deeply and aggressively. He is absolutely still reaching the same results by doing so but it isn't painful at any time. During the thick of my back injury he incorporated a lot of stretching into the massage which was super helpful also especially to my extremely tight hip flexors. He takes many minutes before you appointment to talk through what is going on, what you are looking for, and his ideal apprach to see if it sounds good to you. Once you are on the same page and he begins he definitely still checks in and makes sure throughout you are enjoyed the massage and he says "this is your time." I can't recommend him enough - and have never felt more comfortable telling a massage therapist to change things if I don't like them (Not very assertive over here). Great guy, great massage, great technique. It is definitely worth giving a shot!

But obviously not all public libraries are the same. I've been meaning to visit this library since I moved to Milwauke, but I never made it happen. So, I was delighted that the Tosa Library was very close to my last errand of the day which happened to be in Wauwatosa. Such a lovely, sunlit space with creative and quirky art that refected this community. I roamed the teen, children's, and adult sections and was delighted to encounter helpful staff in each section.
