Mimi's has the best tamales around! We've gotten them here for Christmas Eve for the last three years! Both pork and chicken are delicious!

I remember this little cafe in Marble Falls known for its homemade pies. My grandfather loved stopping here, and sometimes he'd bring pies all the way back to West Texas for us. Oh, how we loved those pies. So we're talking about more than 40 years of nostalgia wrapped up in this place for me. When I recently had the opportunity to make the drive back to Marble Falls, I was genuinely excited. I couldn't wait to sit down at Blue Bonnet again, have a chicken fried steak and, most importantly, get my hands on that PIE. And I'll give credit where it's due. I ordered the chicken fried steak plate, and the chicken fried steak was just as good as I remembered it. Crispy, tender, comforting -- exactly the kind of old-school Texas cafe food I'd been hoping for. The gravy, after adding in some salt and lots of pepper was creamy and perfect. The sides? Well... The green beans tasted canned, and I'm pretty sure those mashed potatoes were the red-skinned powdered variety you can buy at Costco. You know what? I was fine with it. It is what it is. The meal was still pretty darn good, and none of that was why I'd driven back after all these years anyway. I WAS HERE FOR THE PIE. After we ate, I ordered a slice of fudge and a slice of lemon meringue to take home and share. Later, I opened the container. And my smile fell. What in the SCHOOL CAFETERIA had been put into this Styrofoam container and peddled off as Blue Bonnet Cafe lemon meringue pie?! This was not the pie I remembered. The lemon filling was this unnaturally yellow, gelatinous drudge. The crust didn't taste remotely like a made-from-scratch pie crust. And that beautiful homemade meringue I remembered, piled up and lovingly browned on top? Gone. Surely the fudge pie would save this childhood reunion. It did not. Another cheap, flavorless crust with some sort of fudge-like concoction filling it. And THAT is when this stopped being about whether I liked a couple slices of pie. I had carried a memory of Blue Bonnet Cafe around with me for more than four decades. A little cafe, my grandfather bringing pies home to West Texas, and all of us being so excited when he did. Those memories are still wonderful. I just wish the pies I'd brought home this time bore some resemblance to them. Blue Bonnet Cafe, you gave a promise to me... And you broke it. You broke it. My heart -- and my nostalgic little pie-loving heart -- will never be the same.

I'm sure one reason they've been around that long is because of the great food a great service. Everyone is so helpful and friendly. I've stopped in several times when passing thru Marble Falls and have never been disappointed. They have everything you can think of-- alternative organic vegan health related; even crystals, books--you name it. Also, they have a kitchen that serves up fresh health food daily--what must be the best tasting health food I think I've ever had. This place feels like home. Almost makes me wish I lived in Mineral Wells. Everything is Gluten Free and Dairy Free--even the sweeties. So, if you have any food, allergies or sensitivities, this is the place. They also offer all kinds of health and healing modalities and therapies in the back. I'm usually just passing thru whenever I stop by, so haven't checked out their other services yet, but they do have an online sight where you can find more info. The frozen entree dishes are my fav. Prices are reasonable for this type of fare--except certain supplements I found in the apothecary, I thought are a bit overpriced, IMO. But on the upside--if there's something you need they probably have it. Regular parking is usually no problem with plenty of spaces out front just off Highway 281. If, however, you're like me, pulling a travel trailer or driving a big rig, then the best option is to park on Northwood Drive where there's plenty of free street curb parking available and then take a short walk to the store. I just recently tried their superfood smoothie and fresh hot served soup bowl. Definitely a must stop. See ya there next time.

Stopped by for brunch, but it turns out they only serve lunch…read more I ordered the pesto pasta with salmon, and it was excellent. The menu said penne pasta, but what arrived was a different pasta shape, rigatoni maybe, that actually worked better. The sauce filled the pasta, so every bite had plenty of flavor. The salmon was cooked nicely with a crisp exterior that added great texture to the dish. My husband ordered the shrimp po'boy, and unfortunately his experience wasn't as positive. The first sandwich had to be sent back because the shrimp were so overcooked they had the texture of chicharrones. The staff quickly remade it, but the second sandwich was only slightly better. Part of the issue seemed to be the size of the shrimp. They were quite small, which makes them much easier to overcook. Considering this is a seafood and steakhouse restaurant, we were surprised by the size and quality of the shrimp. That said, both our waiter and the manager were very kind and responsive when addressing the issue. We chose not to send the sandwich back a second time, and my husband simply didn't finish his meal. The iced tea was delicious. They prepare it tableside using something similar to a coffee press, which made it taste especially fresh. And the view? Excellent as always.
