Like how they can register for classes and ask their questions?! Not that you are the only studio but you definitely need to treat your potential members more welcoming!

If I could give this place 100 stars I would! Everything about Latin Beat is incredible. Whether…read moreyou are looking to lose a few pounds, dance your butt off, have fun, or make new friends this place is all of that and more. Each instructor brings a different flavor to the party! Zumba classes are offered every day and at a variety of times, so if you have a busy work/life schedule there is usually still a class for you! The studio offers a variety of other classes/fitness programs as well, including Pilates Reformer and Bootcamp. STRONG by Zumba is the newest workout class introduced to the studio in July 2016. This is a new format by the ZUMBA brand combines high intensity interval training with the science of Synced Music Motivation. Nicole and Patricia (family studio owners) became instructors for this format and began teaching in a brief time period to follow. If dance is not for you, this program is an incredible way to get a great workout in. Nicole and Patricia have done a fabulous job executing this program and ensuring the well being and safety of each student is intact, all while providing a fun filled energetic workout. The Zumba Fitness classes offered at Latin Beat are not only a blast, but will kick your butt! As I mentioned above, each instructor brings something really dynamic to the group. Patricia (owner) and a Zumba Jammer, will energize you with her passion and spirit. The amount of knowledge this amazing woman has on health and fitness is remarkable. I've learned so much from being both her student and a fellow ZIN (Zumba instructor). Patricia is someone who truly invests in her students and wants them to be the best they can be. Nelson (owner) will make you feel like you are always on fire! His classes are full of energy, but also allow you to truly unwind at the end of a long day or week. Nelson is one of the funniest people I have ever met. His patience and compassion for his students is a huge reason why I became a regular at Latin Beat. Nicole, she may be young, but that does not stop her from igniting the room with her energy and natural skill for teaching fitness. Her classes are a blast and her passion towards her students is heartwarming. Nicole 's humble and enthusiastic attitude make her an inspirational instructor. Suzette, is a powerhouse of energy and inspiration. She will work every muscle during a class (especially your legs #squatsfordays) and has created a very welcoming and thrilling environment to work out in. Her music and routines are creative and easy to follow along with. Did I mention this girl also runs 1/2 marathons and competes in Crossfit as well?! AMAZING. Orisa, I don't know if there are words to describe her. Another crazy ball of energy. Although you may end up running around the studio most of this class, you are guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face and painful abdominals from laughing so much. (I owe my six pack to her) Whether she is teaching or a participant, this wonderful woman makes an effort to make everyone feel so welcomed and loved! Marie, is the newest instructor to Latin Beat. Although I have not had the opportunity to take her class yet since I work, I have had the pleasure of dancing beside her in many Zumba Classes and can tell you this girl is awesome! If only I had her incredible rhythm. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS STUDIO! It's affordable! It's fun! And you may even walk away with life long friends like I have. I'm very thankful for this studio and the people that run it! Check them out! http://www.latinbeatstudio.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=latin%20beat%20fitness%20studio

I appreciated the facilities, and the way that the classes were able to flex when the pandemic struck. I gained strength and flexibility, and my health overall improved. However... and it's a *big* however... something odd happened, twice. An instructor mysteriously disappeared, without warning or explanation. I don't recall if I was directed toward a different class or not; I think the class simply dissolved. Around 8-ish months later, it happened again with a different instructor. This time, I recall clearly that a new instructor was quickly "given" the class, but she seemed visibly shaken by her weird, sudden introduction to our class, and the class was never given an explanation of what happened that made any sense. Following this, I reached out to EBP and then located and reached out to one of those instructors and got some insight into their situation. Based on what I learned from the two interactions, I ultimately decided that I no longer wanted to give money to an organization that I couldn't trust to treat its employees, or patrons with as much respect as I felt like they or we deserved.

However, it didn't work for my husband and myself, who despite being a little overweight exercise frequently. The studio proceeded very cautiously with us. We were told that we needed to learn all the moves before we could do anything that would even slightly challenge us. The problem is that the exercises were expensive and took time. And by doing them we weren't doing other exercises that really do challenge us (in our case yoga). After 7 "introductory" lessons with still no plan to get us to a point where we would have even mild muscle fatigue we decided it wasn't worth it.

I took a 90 minute heated flow with Brittney which was probably the hardest yoga class I've ever taken. I literally don't think I've sweat more in my life, but it was amazing. Something that is different than this Yoga Studio than others is the lack of mirrors. I always find myself staring at myself and getting distracted, and during these flows I was more present in the moment. I also really enjoyed Gregor and Claire's heated flows. I haven't done a regular flow because I prefer the heat. I am currently enjoying a newcomer special that is $30 for 30 days, and think I will purchase a membership after. The only problem is I drive here, and parking can sometimes be challenging on Massachusetts Ave.

THE GOOD: The…read moreteachers are mostly excellent (detailed, patient, and mindful of student's varying levels). The front desk staff is mostly helpful, cheerful, and welcoming. The studio is conveniently located near the Porter Square T stop and has plenty of nearby parking, making transportation easy. And, importantly, it's a judgement-free zone. If you need to modify your practice or take unscheduled breaks in class, no one will bat an eye. In fact, teachers encourage it. All great things. THE NOT SO GOOD: My first time at the studio, no one helped orient me to the space. I found myself asking dozens of questions, gradually annoying the front desk staff. I wish someone recognized I was new to Down Under and provided a brief tour. Down Under also seems to disregard the comfort of its students. Recently, the water fountain and upstairs bathroom in the studio were out of service. Only the basement bathroom had running water. For a hot yoga studio, providing access to water seems essential. But, during the water shutdown, the only option was to go to the basement and fill up your water bottle from the bathroom tap (which only dribbled lukewarm water). Worst of all, the water issue lasted for several days. The whole experience wasn't just inconvenient, it also felt callous of Down Under to not provide a basic thing like hydration. They could have offered bottled water (even for a fee) or put up a temporary water station with one of those large Gatorade jugs. But, no: the only option was lukewarm tap water from the dank basement bathroom. Every day I went to class, there were at least 2-3 students waiting impatiently (often dripping in sweat since the studio is regularly heated to 105 degrees) before and after practice. The Porter Square location is also just janky. I've heard staff describe it as "old school" or "vintage." These are euphemisms for what it really is: an aging space lacking amenities. I've been to the more modern and amenity-filled Down Under studios in Harvard Square and Central Square. Changing rooms, tiled private showers, pilates rooms, etc. exist at these other locations. In Porter Square? You'll have to change clothes in a curtained off area that barely provides privacy. I've had someone walk in on me while changing twice. More annoying is the fact that the changing rooms in the studio are often pitch dark. Since they are in the corner, little daylight reaches them and staff do not turn on the corner lights before or after class. So, you're stuck changing in the dark. With all the investments made in other studios, you'd think Down Under could upgrade basic things in Porter Square like changing spaces with latched doors. Nope. Yet another example of the studio's disregard of students' comfort. Still, I retain my monthly membership. Why? Well, I was initially drawn in when I read Down Under's website which proudly proclaims it is "America's Best Yoga, Pilates, and Fitness." I disagree. It's not America's best. It's just the least worst option in Cambridge.

I've never enjoyed working out as much as I did here, and it completely changed how I think about fitness. The small class sizes make such a difference you really get personalized attention. The instructors take the time to give helpful corrections and make sure you're moving safely, which is something I haven't experienced as much at other studios. I've actually been able to apply what I learned here to other workouts, and I can see a huge improvement in both my form and results. Some of my favorite classes were Flow 1.5 and Control 1.5 (I only wish there were more Control 1.5 classes on the schedule!). The instructors Ahram, Jennifer, Bethany, Rachel, and Samantha are all AMAZING. They each bring so much energy, encouragement, and knowledge, and it really shows in every class. Bella, the studio manager, has also been incredibly kind and helpful, especially when it came time to cancel my membership. One of the best perks for me was the variety of class times offered throughout the day, which was perfect since I work from home. The only thing I'll note is that if you prefer morning classes, they can fill up quickly, especially with certain instructors. The membership is definitely an investment, but for me, it was so worth it to learn reformer Pilates in such a welcoming and supportive environment. Overall, I had such a great experience at Club Pilates Burlington and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn Pilates in a fun, motivating, and safe space! Hopefully I'll be back soon through drop in classes on ClassPass!
