I've probably seen around 15 different therapists. I've moved. They've moved. Many, I only saw a couple of times before realizing they just weren't a good fit for me. Then there was the one that had a creepy ass collection of porcelain dolls in her office. They stared at me. I never returned. So, let's just say I've been around the block a few times when it comes to therapists. K? I contacted Amy originally about couples counseling. My partner and I went in and after the first session I knew I found someone special. She was very different than anyone I had seen before... Now let me back up. Previously, my experience with therapists always left me with the feeling that they were simply my personal paid cheerleaders. Yay me!!! They would pet me (ummm.. metaphorically), smile and nod, make all my feelings about life feel validated, give me a sucker and send me off into the world freshly stroked. Rinse. Repeat the following week. I didn't hate that. Enter Amy G. She took my sucker, tossed it aside and put a mirror in front of me. Then she made me look. WTF??? Ugh!!! She's making me DO THINGS!?!? Yeah ok... that didn't literally happen but that's pretty much how I felt. Was it scary? Hell yes. Did it need to happen? Yes, it certainly did. I never knew how much I needed a good hard look at myself. She is authentic AF. Honest and forthright. She will dig deep. She will challenge you. She will find things buried that you don't even remember hiding. Then she will make you look at it. Hard. You will confront it and it will be a bit daunting... and then.. It won't. Before you know it she's rinsing off your sucker and giving it back to you with a smile... and sometimes a joke (Yes, she cleans you out emotionally then can still make you laugh. Black magic perhaps??). Now, off you go with a new personal "knowing" or understanding about yourself. Eventually figuring out together what to do with it. In summation, if you're simply looking for a belly rub and a tickle... Move along. If you're ready to do some work and make some changes.. See Amy. She's kinda awesome. ...and maybe magic...
