Faces, upside down

It's quite ingenious to have a research lab area where folks walking by can just drop in for research studies. It's located across from the Art Institute. Inside you'll learn about how you make decisions, and what you can do to improve your decision making processes. Optionally, you can see what studies you are eligible for, and earn points for participating in one you are eligible for. Those studies take anywhere from 10 to 30+ minutes to complete. After completing those studies, you can exchange points for little goodies, such as fridge magnets, keychains, stuffed llama, etc. The building this place is located in is pretty impressive. You'll be able to take a peak if you are escorted to the bathroom.

Mindworks is really neat place to think about how science and the mind coexist. Toured the facility as apart of Choose Chicago Open House program. Mindworks is apart of U of Chicago. At this location they do studies and have a number of exhibits. I was able to participate in a couple of exercises and really got me thinking deep about some of my life choices. All in all, it was a cool experience. My time was limited but I would recommend visiting this facility. I noticed they have teen days and try to involved the community as much as possible so check in their website for study participation and current exhibits.

TLDR: RSVP not required, though encouraged. If you want the shirt, note that they are likely YOUTH sized and you may not try them on! - - - - - - Mindworks was an unexpected surprise on a Chicago visit. Who would've thought there'd be a fun psychology research lab near the Bean of all places! Mindworks has several interactive and self-paced activities that challenge and explain our tendencies in interactions and decisions. After browsing the activities, there is an option to even participate in a few fun psychology studies, perfect for both kids and adults. From visits to studies, the staff were all welcoming and friendly. The hardest part is leaving because of the points and prizes. Said gamification may lead you to stay longer than expected! At the end, I wanted a T-shirt, which I earned, though was quite disappointed with because we couldn't try it on. And... of course what happens? I obtained a large and it was too small. Turns out it was a YOUTH large? Even sized up knowing that it was American Apparel... yikes! The whole experience was fun - especially the research aspect - but it was quite disappointing to arrive home many states away to find that I couldn't even wear my hard-earned souvenir. :(

Passed by and stumbled upon this little interactive exhibit run by the University. It's FREE to enter. They have a few different interactive exhibits all centered around the brain and how it works. Very interesting. You can opt into some of their research studies or just browse. The area is small so it only takes about 20 mins to see everything.

Was exploring and found this free interactive space! It's a space run by the University and it has interactive exhibits about making decisions in your life from risk, regrets, and circumstances. I really enjoyed understanding the social research and breakdown of how we think through decision making. I decided to participate in a few studies since I had spare time. If you do the studies, you can gain points to redeem prizes before you leave! The studies were interesting, eye-opening, and introspective.

I came here for a class field trip. The place was smaller than I expected but super cute. There were multiple rooms set up to conduct behavioral science related studies. They also had a lot of the interactive activities which were super cute and shed light on different tendencies such as regret over inaction vs an action with an unintended result. I would definitely recommend!

It's a lab. It's a mental playground. Why not both? This is run by the University of Chicago's school of behavior economics. About half of the Nobel in economics winner ever have been from U of C. No other school dominates a field as much as Uof C dominates economics. Check it out and be a part of the experiment.

Amazing exhibits!!! Go for the science and awe. I could have spent days there taking it all in. The…read moredetails and richness in many of the exhibits are GREAT! I took my seven year old but think that the normal exhibits are probably better for children who are a bit older, maybe ten and up. The Pokemon special exhibit was great for kids. It does get crowded so trying to be near the front of the line or at the back with a chill, leisurely pace is a good idea. The entries are timed and groups sort of walk through like a snake. Merch is available with a special voucher only and the worthwhile items are the Excavator Pikachu plush and t-shirts unique to the special exhibit. Most of the offerings are available online at similar prices. But be ready for crowds, expensive food, unruly school/camp groups, and restrooms that have no paper towels. We went on a Thursday in July and walking was a struggle in the main hall. My mom got stepped on.

Exhibits are fun for adults, not so much for kids. My wife and three kids really enjoyed the choices, and the beer I had was very refreshing! Field store is very lacking. Most of it feels like cheap buys, or something you would never actually want. From books that are outdated or books that you buy and forget about or gift them to someone you hate. Clothing is really all they have that is decent. Pokemon store is 3 stars at best. They have no product, maybe 8 items total spread out theough the entire store and it is clear they were supposed to have more and did not expect to sell so quickly.

Finally visited this River North museum during my return to Chicago. Since I wasn't a CHI/IL…read moreresident, the adult ticket price was $22, however you can also opt for the Pay As You Wish option, which is essentially Suggested Donation. While the museum is 4 floors, the exhibits weren't as plentiful. The 1st floor is basically their cafe. The 2nd and 4th floors are prob the floors with more artwork. The 3rd fl felt like an "in-between" floor. Thankfully, the Yoko Ono exhibit was on display, which featured several interactive activations, like a Wish Tree or writing on a wall, which were fun. Their Museum Shop also spans from floors 1-2. I wouldn't say that this museum has the popular artists. The overall artworks are a mix of abstract, photography, and mixed media. I wouldn't recommend it as a "Must See" for tourists, personally. However, I'm an art enthusiast and still thought it was a decent museum to walk through. Perhaps opt for the Suggested Donation for this one.

Beautiful museum with multiple floors, excellent customer service, plenty of comfortable seating, cool gift shop, and a cafe and restaurant too. It has everything I need! The vibes are good here. I enjoyed all the floors and saw an impressive variety of art. I also wanted to see the Yoko Ono exhibit and I really enjoyed it. I appreciated how interactive it was. There were a few writing stations with activities, such as writing about your mom and taping it to the wall, and writing a wish on a tag and tying it to the wish tree. One room was blue and there were blue markers available and people were encouraged to add to it. Fabulous venue!

I wasn't sure what to expect, and it ended up being so much better than I imagined! All the people working were friendly, knew what they were doing, and helped us have the best experience we could have. I loved every part of it, and it was awesome tying in all the senses to color! The tasting one was so fun, I ended up guessing mine right! I think my husband and I had the most fun with the partner drawing activity, that's a keepsake for sure, haha! Other faves were the poem and balloon exhibit and of course, the ball pit. We came with our 6 year old nephew but I think the adults had more fun than he even did! It was fun to let loose and be a kid again. I was thankful for all the fun photo ops, it made it easier to get great pics without having our phones out the whole time. The only bummer was the ice cream. We paid $1 per person for it and it was just one tiny little ball with a wooden spoon, and I could taste the spoon more than the ice cream.

We still had a good time, but the venue was pretty much the same, so there was nothing new for them to get as excited about. We still enjoyed walking through the rooms, etc. Hopefully, the CF team can develop some new experiences in the space to get us to go back on our next visit to the city.

You can get a discounted ticket on Groupon, and they also offer free tours to the public. The museum has two levels - the first one is mainly a theater and a diorama exhibit, while the second floor has a lot of artifacts about the history of Chicago from 1600-1700's and into the 21st century. What I liked in particular is that it covered multiple aspects - immigrants, industry, fashion, art, commerce, civil rights, architecture, famous people, and so much more. You'll definitely learn a lot - plan at least 3 hours. The only thing that could have improved the experience would be better designed plaques with text (or lighting). Some of them were hard to read because it was either too dark in the room or the text was white color on yellow / pale-blue background which didn't provide enough contrast. Other than that, this museum is definitely worth visiting!
