Mineralistic was the best crystal store I've EVER been to! I'm not sure how there's SO many bad reviews of how Janice and her husband were rude. As soon as I walked in, I could see the many rooms of huge crystals and jewelry. Janice had a good vibe and she was upbeat. As soon as we walked in, she welcomed us. When she was done welcoming us, she gave us a WHOLE tour of her store, except the employee only parts (which i'm not mad about). She had a triceratops, a meteorite, dinosaur eggs and a mosasaurus which was CRAZY! She had big chunks of amethyst, rose quartz, and other crystals as well. The prices were very fair. Janice did not have ANY problem with us trying on many ring sizes. She showed us moldavite rings, which I, of course, bought one. My brother had to get a bigger ring size, so he got a beautiful, big amber ring. Mineralistic was the BEST crystal shop I've seen in Philly. 100% recommend coming here for crystals, incense, and more! When I saw how many BAD reviews Mineralistic had, I knew had to write one. I wish I would have read the reviews before coming here. The cool exterior of the store drew me in, as we were just strolling the neighborhood on our first visit to Philly. The inside was neat, but a lot of it is just bought and resold random items that fit a theme. If you're looking for something interesting ok, but it just was kinda off for me. The energy inside is just not there. As soon as I walked in, I knew I didn't want to buy anything. It just felt negative. My friend purchased these little figurines of Gandhi, Lincoln, and Einstein, though I'm not sure why. I literally told him at the counter, in front of the owners, not to buy them. The woman was so incredibly rude. The guy didn't say much of anything. We were a quick sale, and I'm just not about that. When you go into a Dollar General or a Walmart, you know what to expect. However, a store like this must have originated from some sort of passion, because so much work has been put into the decor inside. Some of the crystals are beautiful, but if you believe that they absorb energy (as I imagine you do if you're visiting a store like this) then you do not want to bring that energy back with you. At some point, these people definitely lost their way. They look tired, uninspired, and unappreciative. Behind the counter was a mountain of junk and paperwork, and that's all I need to know. If their exterior selves look like that, that's what they're projecting to the world and their customers, I can only imagine what they must be feeling. I will not visit again. FYI - for those reading this, who love stores like this, please visit WELL OILED when you come to Pittsburgh. It was a life changer for me. Sometimes I go in just for a burst of positive energy. It's woman-owned, it's intricate and beautiful and inspiring and positive. You can literally tell her what you're looking for, and she'll spend the next few days scouring through her suppliers and vendors to find it for you. But you will never be pressured to buy a single thing. She is a light. She's also a reiki master, and does those sessions, as well as brings in tarot readers, psychics, CBD specialists, and tons of inspiring people from all walks of life to help you on your journey. I took a day trip to Philly from Baltimore for my youngest daughters birthday to have cheese steaks for dinner. While we were walking down the street a crystal caught my eye. Being the crystal lovers we are we had to stop inside for a bit. We were greeted by a lady named Janice. She was just as sweet as could be. She was very well versed about all the items in the store. She was very warm and engaging. Especially with my 8 year old who is very inquisitive and animated. She was patient and really helped us get the perfect crystals to add to our collections and to work with. Overall the store was well stocked very neat and organized. If I could give it zero stars I would. In there less then 15 mins was planning on buying a new bag of runes, and some amber jewelry for my wife. My son who is two and urgently non verbal was making noises not even crying just his form of talking. The old man behind the counter proceeded to say "can you do something about that. You may be used to it but I'm not." His exact words I know kids are loud sometimes but I've never known an old man to be such a child about making money. It used to be a place I looked forward to go to when I visited philly. Now I'll never step foot in there again. I grew up in Philly and every time I come home for a visit I make it a point to stop here. I was going to get a bunch of their business cards and give them to my friends back home who I know would LOVE their products. The people USED to be very friendly. But after this visit I have made up my mind, I will NEVER go back to one of my childhood favorite places. This man has ruined one of my favorite places in the world. I came in with my dad, brother, husband, and 2 yr old autistic (non verbal) son. We were the ONLY PEOPLE IN THE STORE. He was in a stroller, Because I wanted to make sure he didn't touch any of the merchandise, and he was excited to see all the beautiful stones and other merchandise. He started making noises, which is his form of communication. Of course I didn't my expect people who don't know him to know that, BUT the way the older man behind the counter reacted to this not only broke my heart for my baby, but pissed me off beyond belief. I was by the counter trying to pick out my usual piece of jewelry I get that whenever I visit. While I was picking a piece the man said "will you tend to him or something?" I was about to explain how that's his form of communication and appreciation for the things in his shop, but I made it as far as "that's just his way of-" before he cut me off and said "well you may be used to it but I'm not". At that point I said "I was going to spend my money here but forget it." And walked out of the store while my husband told the man off as he left. I understand that not everyone is used to children, neurotypical or otherwise. I also understand it is not a store designed to cater to children. BUT this was completely uncalled for. Not only did you complain about a 2yr old, but you completely cut me off as I was trying to explain that he couldn't help himself, that he was COMPLEMENTING the store. If you're going to own or work at a retail establishment, you should really consider having some human decency. Or at least have enough manners to not cut off a parent who is trying to explain WHY the thing that is bothering you is happening. I used to be a loyal customer, maybe not a frequent one, but a loyal one. I will never set foot in that store as long as I live, I will never recommend it to any one ever again, and I damn sure will never spend another dime there. read more

In the hubby's old stomping grounds and we happen to find this shop. The store front is very 80's. You can tell they're longggggg time residents, as so many other shops around had a more updated look. But upon entry I was greeted. Asked where I was from and welcomed to look around. Always a pleasure popping into this South Street Gem! Janice is very sweet and very open to conversation or helpful advice on their collection. I personally like to drop in when I get the itch for a new stone or crystal around Eclipses. One of my favorites was a piece of Citrine purchased a few years back. A friend and I bought matching ones and its often a go to for spell work. Their prices are always reasonable and have even taken the time to explain the difference between natural and cooked stones. It's a shame to see such negative reviews on here trying to ruin the reputation of one of the longest running crystal shops on South St. The pandemic has hit shops like these very hard and its amazing to see a place like this still around. These days it's hard for me to remember that there are still places that I actually like in the thick of South Street (there are still five but there used to be at least 20). Otherwise I would have probably reviewed this spot sooner. The store layout can be pretty enchanting and soothing. walk around and you'll come across all kinds of rare earth stones, gems, baubles, and even dragon statues. you can even pick up good stuff like chess sets and good smelling incense. there's a little bit inside that anyone can appreciate. definitely one of the few spots that can still make a trip on South Street worth it. read more

Faerie statues, amber jewelry, and even a huge old dinosaur fossil (No, I'm not kidding!) are some of the many things you will find in this shop. I don't like giving smaller businesses bad reviews, but I make exceptions for racists. I went here with my two sisters on Monday hoping to look around and maybe buy a present for my partner back home. I immediately changed my mind about spending money here once we were greeted very rudely. We were made aware of their "no photos or FaceTime" in an accusatory tone upon entering. No problem, I totally understand having policies to protect your art. I left my phone in my pocket, as did my sisters. They followed us around the store, watching us like they thought we were doing something wrong and made us feel very unwelcome. My sister (who is a Black Woman) decided she wanted to purchase two items and asked the man to help her. He proceeded to stare at her and without acknowledging her request, yelled for the woman to come take care of us. She came over and my sister showed her the items she wanted and the woman rudely goes "for purchase?" When my sister says yes and asks if they take cards, she replies "as long as it's yours." Seriously? She rings her up and is rude the entire time. When we leave, other people are trying to enter and they tell them that they are closing for "inventory." In the middle of the day...paired with everything else, this seems suspect. I didn't hear the pointed comments at first, or I would have confronted them for being racist towards my sister. This behavior is unacceptable and left my sister feeling bad about something she didn't even do. There are plenty of other stores that sell similar merchandise without the side of racism. After reading the other negative reviews, it seems like they are regularly racist to their patrons of color. read more

I am a fluorescent rock enthusiast and one of my favorite things to do is bring my UV flash light into various rock shops and peruse the shelves for glowing specimens. Every shop I've walking into, the owners are delighted by my enthusiasm and say things along the lines of, "people never come in here with black lights!" It's a lovely exchanged of interests and knowledge. I often find myself leaving either having learned something new myself or having brought some previously unknown insight to the owners. Upon entering Mineralistic, my intentions were the same. I began to use my UV light on some specimens when the elderly male shop owner approached me, "Oh nothing in there fluoresces." He says. I furrow my brow as I look at the septarian flashing green fluorescence in my face. "Oh actually septarian does fluoresce!" I say excited to share the factoid. The man responds with, "wait here, I'll grab you something you'll like." (A common occurrence when I bring my UV light to rock shops.) As I waited for the man to return, I perused a display case next to the counter full of Amber specimens. I ran my UV light across the glass as every specimen lit up with a bright green glow. With my head down, minding my own business I hear, "Nothing in there fluoresces," the elderly female shop owner says (a completely unsolicited comment. I hadn't looked at her or said anything at this point.) I look up and say, "oh actually amber is very fluorescent! See?" I shined my light on the case. The glow was undeniable. "No. Amber does not fluoresce.' She persists with a seemingly defensive tone. Feeling the energy of the interaction, I reply, "I'm sorry but amber certainly fluoresces." Again, "No it doesn't." Like a child being unreasonably combative and confrontational, "I'm wearing amber right now!" She continues. "Oh really!" I say as I hand her my UV flash light. She takes the flash light and shines it on her necklace. As you'd imagine, her massive chunk of amber is radiating green as if it was dipped in a vat of radioactive slime. "See? That is fluorescence." I say dryly. She looks up and hands me my light. "No it isn't," she snarks back to me. At this point, the whole interaction had lasted maybe about 3 minutes. I take my light back and begin to make my way toward my partner who was deeper in the store. I leave with a final comment saying, "Well the fact is that amber fluoresces." Done. I'm out. I walk over to my girlfriend and tell her we should get going, these people are NOT cool. As we begin to walk out, the friendly older male shop owner returns with the specimen he went to retrieve. (which by the way was amethyst...not a fluorescent specimen what-so-ever.) He motions for me to come over and I tell him thank you but we are going to be on our way and we walk out. As we exit I hear the older man say, "What happened there?" The woman behind the counter responded with, "oh he thought amber fluoresces." The last thing I heard as my partner and I left was the man exclaiming, "IT DOES!" Such a shame that this business is shrouded in reviews of racism and disrespect towards customers. To be met with just hostility over such a minor dispute was completely unprofessional and childish. Not only was the female owner confrontational, she was persistent with her disrespect. I implore everyone to avoid this shop until they go under or are bought out by new mgmt. People like that do not deserve to work in a retail market where customer service is common. It's time for them to move on and quit spreading they're negativity. It simply has no place in this world anymore and I hope my actions and her realization of how stupid she was when she was corrected make her feel shame and inadequacy. Period. read more

Have walked by this place for 7 years but never gone in until today. It's winter, so everyone is pretty bulked down. When I came in there was no one inside but two women, both employees, so I set my laptop bag and coat down on the floor next to the register in order to shop more comfortably. I spent maybe 10 minutes browsing and took a mental inventory of the things I liked, as everything is locked in cases. When I reached the back of the store, I got the attention of the younger woman and asked her to show me something in a case. As she was doing so a much older man, I suspect the owner (or one of them,) came barreling from upstairs and immediately said in a thundering voice "Whose stuff is this?" Clearly he was referring to my possessions, so I called out "Those belong to me!" He then proceeded to start picking them up, saying "I'm putting them behind the register." Now it's not the fact that he wanted them moved that bothers me. It's the fact that he took it upon himself to put his hands on that which did not belong to him. An acceptable alternative would have been to say "I would prefer these things not be on the floor" or "Might I move these behind the counter?" Instead he just picked them up and did whatever the hell he wanted with them, and it really pissed me off. I actually said, after he did it, "I would prefer if you would ask me if you could move them rather than just take it upon yourself to do so." At which point he simply ignored me for the rest of my visit. I bought the item that I was actively looking at and did not bother visiting the cases for the numerous other items I had intended to purchase. I am pleased with what I bought - a bronze Egyptian pendulum - but I will never return. read more

The woman behind the counter had a knowledgeable vibe, there was the requisite black cat traipsing through the store. Service was great, selection and price of gemstones and crystals was on point. Like many of the other reviewers have said, I experienced terrible service here. I think it's kind of hilarious that a place selling calming and healing items creates such an uncomfortable atmosphere. The rude older man and woman working there made it clear that my quiet shopping was disturbing them, so I left without buying anything. I'm not sure who buys kitschy dragon figures past the age of 12 anyway, but they had a few other things I was considering purchasing. Oh well. Nothing I couldn't find at a similar shop anyway. Someone needs to advise these people to get an attitude check, because I don't know how they'll stay in business with this bad reputation they're earning. I had such a great experience at Mineralistic! I was assisted by what I assumed were the owners and they were so helpful and everything was neatly organized and clearly labeled and priced. If you are new to crystals this is the place to go! They have a list of crystals and their meanings and healing properties which is very helpful to people that are not familiar with the crystal meanings. They also have a wide variety of silver jewelry with crystals in them that are stunning! I had gotten a ring, incense, and a ring and it was such a good deal! If you are a fan of fairies, steampunk, Disney, kitschy things, crystals, minerals, fossils, meteorites, jewelry. Just so much stuff! I've given plenty of gifts from here, they are always treasured. Now that I'm older, I still appreciate the beauty of the minerals and stones they sell. I'm not a fan of the cards displaying what "metaphysical powers" the items claim to possess (it's all b.s. to me) but hey, whatever. I went in yesterday to buy some loose stones. There was an older woman working at the time and she just seemed annoyed that I was there. I'm not sure why; It wasn't even close to closing time and I was the only one in the store. She wasn't friendly in the least bit. Not only that, but she didn't know anything about the stones I was interested in rather than what ailments they "cured." (Again, b.s.). I tried asking her whether she'd been to Rolling Hill in Gladwyne to hunt for garnets but I only got up to "Rolling Hill" when she cut me off with a firm "No." Pretty rude. Mineralistic has a truly fabulous selection of jewelry. I especially love their vast and relatively inexpensive collection of Baltic Amber, in every color and shape, but there are so many great pieces, with stones I've never even seen anywhere else! I get compliments on everything I've ever bought there, whenever I wear it out. I don't care really about their fairies and goblins, but I suppose if you're into that sort of thing they've got a good amount of it, too. They have tumbled stones there as well, at shockingly lower prices than Garland of Letters, located up the street. I'll never forget Mineralistic, the first store I ever walked into on my first ever visit to South St. It's a feast for the eyes what with wizards and fairies and unicorns glittering all over the shelves. I think that housewares, frou frou decorations, and trinkets are junk, but lots of people are happy to buy pretty things with no real functional value. 3 stars for finding that niche market. Even though I'd never buy anything from M., I appreciate how beautifully the store is set up. It's easy to just throw a bunch of crap on the sales floor, but M. has really used its merchandise to turn the store into a delightful place. The store is beautifully designed and the layout is easy to follow. At times, it feels a little too "hippie", but that's expected. Beautiful merchandise awaits you, whatever you may be seeking. Let me start by saying this store has a fabulous selection of crystals that are much larger and less expensive than Garland of Letters that's right down the street. That being said, I don't know if I'll be returning because the service I received here was really odd. There were two salespeople in the store at the time, two women, one younger and one older. I asked the older woman for assistance and the younger woman followed close behind us. She proceeded to oddly hover too close next me not saying a word while the older one selected the crystals I wanted. It was really awkward and uncomfortable and I felt pressured to choose the stones I wanted quickly because of her presence. Neither of the women looked friendly or welcoming AT ALL, and the older women spoke so low I had to ask her to repeat herself many times. The experience overall was just a little bizarre. read more

Today my sisters and I went to this store and had a terrible experience. From the moment we entered the staff (an older male and female) possibly the owners treated us rudely and as though we didn't belong or as though they expected us to do something criminal. The woman followed us around the store, then when my sister, who is biracial, asked the man to open the display case so she could purchase a figurine, he stared at her with no response and called for the woman to help her. My sister then asked if they accepted credit cards and the woman said "as long as it's yours". Throughout the transaction this woman was rude and short with my sister. At first I thought they were just rude but when I realized how they treated my biracial sister in a ruder and more suspicious manner than myself and other sister who are white, I believe their rudeness and behavior was fueled by racism. I would not recommend going to this store or purchasing anything until they learn to not be racist and learn to treat their customers in an appropriate manner. I will never return here or give them my business. This was unacceptable. read more
