There are some interactive displays, that some children will enjoy. The docent at the front desk was helpful. What challenged me was parking. There is none nearby. I guess this is true for most Universities. The GPS took me to the museum and with 2 toddlers in tow, I parked in one of the 6 non marked, empty spaces. Just to be sure I asked if I needed a visitor permit for my car, when I was told those spots were not for visitors. I needed to look for parking elsewhere. I found there was parking available approximately 1/4 mile away and across Broadway. That is an extremely busy street. There are no pedestrian crosswalks near the museum. So fairly good museum -- difficult logistics made worse on cool rainy days.

I thought the Dougherty Museum just housed antique automobiles and farm equipment. However, it also has collections of vintage organs, pianos, victrolas, clothing and furniture. It is family owned and operated, and this is the family's extensive collection. All of the automobiles are labeled. The label includes the name, year, original purchase price, where the item was purchased and if possible information about its connection to the local area. It's so well organized! You can sit on a vintage fire truck and ring the bell! Free water bottles are offered. They have a clean restroom, but I didn't see a lock. There are people there who are very happy to give you information about the collection. It is a cash only establishment. The current entry fee is $10. When you sign their guest book it gives you free return entry for the rest of the summer. They are only open on Saturdays and only open during the summer. There is free parking.

The staff are very knowledgeable and are ready and willing to share their passion and experience with everyone young or old. The Broomfield Depot Museum is an interesting place to visit. The museum features the history and…read morefounding of the city of Broomfield from when it was just a small little rest stop named Zangs Spur in 1903 when travelers would travel from Denver to Boulder. Also included in the museum is the story of a dog named Shep that happened to wander in the then toll booth that was once installed on highway 36 back in the 1950s. The beloved dog became the mascot of the toll station and stayed there all his life receiving gifts and treats from toll attendants and passengers paying 25 cents as the toll charge to drive into Boulder. The best part is that the museum is free on Saturdays.

Definitely of the best museums we have here in the city- and it's very affordable at $13/pp. This is one of the most exceptional displays and collections on transportation history I've ever seen. If you tend to take your time through museums, I would budget at least 2.5 hours for this one. They probably have over 100 different vehicles, not including bikes, trains, planes, etc.. Note: I would not recommend this space for children, however. This will be my new spot to take out of town guests!

I'm sure people with particular passions would find some portions exciting. But for me, a random person with a random kid, it's just ok. There's a level of technical detail about many items in the collection but little story or context. For example, there's a diagram that shows the literally hundreds of parts of a steam engine but nothing that explains at like kid level how it works. And what do the giant cars of the 1960s, as a trend, say about America at that time? I have no idea. I get that they don't want people touching the collection, but the signs and volunteers around feel oppressive at times. Some things like the train passenger cars even appear set up for people to be able to go in, but I've never seen them open across multiple visits. The streetcar has an unattached, standalone lever in front, going into the roped off path -- which seems like SURELY it's there to give kids SOMETHING interactive -- but it also has a "don't touch" sign, which is almost comical, like a flashing red button that just says "don't press this button."

Lots of different things to keep them busy including a big pirate ship, pulley chairs, art room, etc. I loved how they had some older telephones, switch boards, etc. so kids could actually experience some of these items not commonly used or seen today. It was fun to let them explore those and play with them. As a bilingual family, we appreciated how everything was presented in English/Spanish. I did feel like some of the displays were a little run down. Likewise the prices were steep, especially for adults. I really think since adult presence is required, it really shouldn't cost more than $3 per adult. Bathrooms were fairly clean. Place seemed stuck in the Covid era which I wasn't a fan of. Time to move on! This isn't the museum's fault but the day we went the kids there were a bit out of control and rude. That dampened our experience a little bit. They had a little area where families could sit and eat snacks. That was nice for taking a break, especially if you stay for a while. It was a fun one time excursion but I wouldn't return. We have a lot of fun places much closer to us that cost a lot less!

A Wonderful collection of Shelby automobiles and it is truly unique and one of a kind. Steve Volt, the car buff and race driver has put together an elegant collection of cars with many of them having historical importance. The charge to visit the Shelby museum just outside the cityof Boulder is $10 per person. Very, very reasonable for what you are going to observe. The volunteer staff does not mind taking you around or answering your questions. I can't wait to return for a second dose of pure fun..

The second building is set up with a conference e table and an event/banquet room. Staff/docents were very knowledgeable. We enjoyed learning from them. They have a display case with some items for sale along with some nice framed artwork. Definitely a great car museum if you are in or close to Boulder!
