Went for a nice dinner and even made reservations. Just 4 of us. They overbooked with a wedding party so our food took forever. Burnt coconut shrimp. Steak was cold, salmon was dry. Plain, very dry baked potato. Two of my friends just wanted the salad bar and the soups were forgotten. Maybe just a bad night, but pretty lame dinner for $230 bucks. We went to Minerva's as a big group to celebrate and had a nice time at the restaurant. The restaurant itself has an array of different seating options, and is fairly large on the inside. The atmosphere has dimmed lightening to give it a romantics Italian feel. I definitely recommend a reservation, as the place was pretty full on a Saturday night. The service itself was ok. I gave them grace when it came to servicing us, because it was a large group. They were all friendly and did well to bring out all our food, but it did take a long time to get served. The espresso martini was delicious and the food was pretty tasty. The salmon was definitely the best bite. I would love to go back in a smaller group and get to try more of the menu! Wanted something that was walkable so we ended up here and am so glad we did. We were seated quickly and staff was friendly and attentive. Chicken breast Oscar had a ton of flavor and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The shrimp was large and the entire dish worked! The red velvet brownie was the perfect ending to the meal. I couldn't keep track of how much water I was drinking because they filled up the cups every 5 seconds. They took my cocktail and didn't even offer me a refill. The. Had the audacity to ask me how I enjoyed my meal? I said I want the ticket and to leave. If you care about customer service: don't go here. If you care about looks: go ahead and try it out. What an amazing upscale dining experience in the center of downtown Sioux Falls! We tried the burger for the "battle" of 2026 and loved it. It was enough to share. Our server was attentive and friendly, even if we did seem to wait a bit long at times (no problem, we weren't in a rush). There is an extensive list of bourbon, rye, and whiskey, and a decent wine and beer list (including some local breweries). It's open on Mondays, which is great, and no reservation seemed necessary, though it might be on a weekend. Street parking after 5 is free. I'd recommend dressing business-casual, but you won't be turned away in less-dressy attire. read more

As a fan of Minerva's and a fan of the Godfather movie, I was looking forward to this years Burger-Battle entry. The family and I went by last night for dinner to try it. First of all, I want to say our server (Caleb) was great. But unfortunately the food was not. Stopped here for lunch Saturday because their salad bar is typically amazing. It's $17/plate but well worth it for the variety you get! A couple friends got the salmon from the salad bar and said it was a very odd texture, more like a pate (mushy). Otherwise, the food was great! Our family came here for dinner on a Monday night. We didn't need a reservation as the restaurant wasn't anywhere near capacity. As we were escorted to our table we walked along the salad bar and it looked like a nice variety of items. Wife and I opted for the $26 entree bar. After receiving our salad plates we helped ourselves to the various pasta salads, potato salad, broccoli salad, leafy greens, olives, beets etc. There were some sandwich fixings at the end of the bar with crackers or dinner rolls for "bread". Our server said that there were two soups available with the salad bar but we didn't see any. Sadly, we were not very satisfied with any of the items from the salad bar. We've had better salad plates from the deli counter at the supermarket. I recommended skipping the salad bar and get any other menu item. Our daughter got the grilled salmon with mashed potatoes. Not much to really compliment on this dish. We've made better salmon at home. We tried the walleye cakes which had a mixture of wild rice and a small arugula garnish. Downtown restaurant. Parking could be a challenge but I got lucky and parked about eight cars/spaces from the door. Truly special dinner. Fantastic service from Delaney (see photo). Seating host was a very friendly, accommodating person. They honored my reservation immediately which is always nice. But, the atmosphere and food were great too. Cozy, dimly lit. I was alone as I am traveling by myself to a few states, but it would make a nice couple dinner. I started with a really tasty martini, a little dirty, with lots of stuffed olives. Thank you Delaney for telling the bartender to add all the olives! I had the Walleye cakes to start. Yum, with just a hint of peppery goodness. The lettuce wedge had tasty bacon and an abundance of blue cheese. Nicely done! My pork chop was really really good, as were the peas. Needed to get on the road so I did not have dessert. I'm not even from here and it's clear this is a Sioux Falls classic. It has that vibe of everyone in the world has either already been there or at some point will be there. A bit worn at the edges, but by time-honored experience. Old, dark, moody, easy to fall into. Our server was wonderful. Had I remembered to get her name I would mention her but in any event our whole table was happy. And I say that as the person whose meal for some reason didn't come out with everyone else's. All others had their food for a while and my place remained empty, but our server was very communicative and on top of it. And when the meal finally arrived, it was divine. I had the pork chop (Hunter's Pork Chop?) and woooooooooow. So good! We spent hours there. Wine after wine, laugh after laugh, it was like time stopped just for a little bit, just for us. read more

Went there for the salad bar. It was enormous, so much food to choose from. Salad bar included soups and a sandwich bar. After a long discussion we opted for a different plan. Wifey had the Scottish salmon salad with asparagus and the tomato bisque soup. It looked delicious. The salmon portion was generous and grilled perfectly. Roasted red peppers and artichokes were nicely integrated into the presentation. I went with French onion soup and the wedge salad. Both were excellent. Bottom line ... best to be very hungry to do the salad bar. Other menu items looked very good. Prices were higher than average. Highly recommend without any reservations. I recently was able to dine at Minervas in downtown Sioux Falls. I had been in town for a conference all week and wanted to try out a local restaurant. There is ample free street parking right outside after 6 pm. I walked in and it is a longstanding restaurant with fine dining in downtown. The restauraunt pooked very nice. Placed nice variety of old music from the 80s. Has an amazing salad bar and soup to add to your meal for $12. Well worth it. Fantastic potato salad and fish as well as salad. All tasted homemade and great. Excellent tomato soup. Had great service. Ordered the chicken with shrimp and asparagus. Was one of the best servings of chicken I have had in a long time. Chicken was fresh and still juicy. Also enjoyed the fresh bread with dinner. Left very full and satisfied. Finally, amazing prices for the quality. Highly recommend this place. read more

This is a fine dining restaurant located downtown Sioux Falls on Phillips Avenue in the heart of everything. If you are looking for a local place with a long history in the downtown area, this is the place. This place is known for their service and their salad bar. Salad bar? Yes, make sure to get it with your meal! We went here at 6pm on a Friday night with a reservation. We asked for a booth ahead of time and they accommodated. This is one of only a few places in Sioux Falls that takes reservations. We overheard that time was 20-30 minutes for people without a reservation. This is a fine dining restaurant so most people dress nice, although not mandatory. The service here is always great. They have dedicated servers filling water, which is a nice touch. It seems filling beverages is a lost art at most restaurants nowadays. The restaurant was updated around ten years ago and has a classy look/feel, located on a historic building in the heart of downtown. It's attached to Paramount bar which has live music and great martinis. If you are waiting to be seated, stop at Paramount for a drink or sit at Minerva's bar. If you don't want a drink, even walking around outside and looking at sculptures or the downtown is a grammar way to pass time. The food was amazing as always. It came out hot and at the perfect time. My wife had a filet mignon, which I have had before and it was great as always. This place is probably the best steak house in town. I had the coconut chicken curry. It was good but I enjoy the steak more. I also like the duck. I had the salad bar with my meal, which never disappoints! We both had dessert and specialty coffees. My wife had the brownie sundae and I had key lime pie. Overall we were both happy with our meal. Prices were very affordable and even low for the quality of food and service. The atmosphere is anything you want it to be. Casual-business casual-date night. Service is on point and staff is friendly. I normally do not get chicken out as I cook it on my grill so we'll but my server recommended and I went for it. Hollandaise sauce was perfect. Not too thin or light and perfect amount of crème. Shrimp were generous and the chicken breast moist. I also recommend the salad bar. Extensive selection of anti-pasta, salad toppings and even salmon. Our server was pleasant and informed us of all the specials of the day. They have a nice menu and salad bar which was our choice. The salad bar has all your salad accoutrements and even some cold cuts if you want to put together a sandwich. The salad bar includes the standard soup options and we found the tomato soup was really good. The restaurant is clean, open, and has a cozy feel to it. There is also a full service bar. A nice quiet place to have a meal and talk. I'd recommend Minerva's for stop in anytime. read more

We were not offered a desert menu. I did not receive any refills on the drink that I ordered. And we were basically ignored. Located downtown Sioux Falls, the restaurant is larger than I expected with some room for larger parties and receptions and a nice bar area. They have a great salad bar and delicious freshly baked bread. The Walleye cakes were some of the best "fish" cakes I have ever tasted with a surprising mixture of long grain rice to keep the cake together. My salon Oscar was grilled and scrumptious with a baked potato and asparagus - I asked them to hold the hollandaise sauce. And the brownie souffle was amazing! read more

The steak chislic, ordered for the table, was great! The tiny pieces were each cooked perfectly--it gets addictive to pop them in your mouth! Honestly, I could've gotten this appetizer plus a carb and that would have be more than enough for a meal. The Caesar salad was also great! The salad was really fresh, and I appreciated how it was well dressed but not drowning in dressing. I tried the bison ribeye and it was delicious! 1st time here and it was a 5 star experience all the way around! From the hostesses to our waiter, Kiki, the food and ambience. Im a new fan of this restaurant. Ill be coming back here on a regular basis. We were greeted by the three hostesses all were friendly and genuine. They have a nice bar inside. Very classy looking. We were seated and we had an excellent waiter named Kiki. He was top notch in his service and made our meal experience 5 stars. You can have great food, but if the service is so so or not good that affects the whole meal. Kiki is a top service minded waiter and an asset to Minerva's. Both our cocktails were very good. Bartender did a good job. My buffalo ribeye was cooked a perfect medium rare. It had a good seasoning on it, but for me I do prefer a little less seasoning on my meat. It was tasty, but just a little salty for me, but maybe not you? I enjoyed my meal though. Then the dessert. Terrifically tasty and a good portion size. Ate at Minerva's 10+ years ago and have bragged about the meal and service since then. Not this time! That said, had a Caesar salad and a burger (wanted a steak, but honestly after sitting down and surveying the place, and looking at the wine list, I decided to go safe and get a burger). The lettuce on the salad was wilted. The burger over overcooked. Asked for mayo and it seriously took 10 minutes to get it. Maybe my experience is a one off, but I have my suspicions. Their menu is labeled with items that can be prepared without gluten. I had the filet with loaded baked potato and creme brûlée for dessert. Had to edit my review due to the inconvenience and lack of brain capacity of the hostess'. They gave our table away. We checked in 30 minutes early as we always do with the host. We go to the bar to have a drink prior. They always come and grab us. We checked twice on our reservation as it was 20 minutes after 7 (reservation was at 7). 7:30 came and they told us 'we couldn't find you and gave your table away." We were literally two feet away from the hostess counter and not one time we heard them say our name. If that was the case, they should have said something the TWO times we checked in our table. Disappointed. I've been coming here for 30 years along with my family. I always bring out of towners to Minerva's as they alway have the best steaks. My family also spends Christmas Eve there as a tradition. Very upsetting tonight and was completely embarrassed to have brought my friend there after raving about it. Shame on your hostess. In my opinion, it could use some extra cream to thicken up but overall had a good flavor. The focaccia bread that accompanied it was buttery and delicious! The wedge salad was perfect. It had everything you could want - bleu cheese crumbles, crispy bacon, and tomatoes. It was so refreshing and pretty filling as well. The South Dakota Bison Ribeye was tender, juicy, flavorful, and topped with wild mushrooms that were earthy and meaty. The perfect combination to make for an excellent steak.
