All of a sudden, my car's USB Port is not charging, and upon checking on Yelp, I found Minit-Tune in Richmond. I called at around 12ish on Saturday thinking that they may not be open or even if they are they may not have time for my very very small job. To my pleasant surprise, after a few rings, a gentleman answered and after telling him my problem, he asked me to see him at 3:30pm! He did say that they are very busy but still willing to take a look see for me, naturally, I expressed my appreciation! On arrival, I was a bit taken with how busy this little shop is, but only after standing at the counter for about 5 mins. I was acknowledged by Jackson (the gentleman on the phone), he immediately took my car in and asked us to come back in about an hour. Seeing how friendly everyone is when they come in, I know that all are regulars, which is a good sign already! Jackson, then proceeded to check my car and his advice was to use another power outlet instead since the car's USB may not have enough voltage for my multi-headed charger. He also checked all the fuses and they all turned out fine. With mystery solved, I am now happy to use the other power outlet. Jackson was so nice that he only changed me a minimum fee, which is very generous of him to do so! Suggest you ask total cost before you drop off your car. I went there to do car oil change, something like maintenance things. It should be less than $80 in my mind, but it turned out to be more than $250. Realized more cost came from other stuffs which may not really need. We've been bringing our older Camry with an active check engine light to Jackson and his team since we took ownership of it last year. Not once were we told anything more than needing not to worry about said light because it's just a broken sensor that won't affect the performance or functionality of the car. If they find anything else, they will inform you but won't touch your car any more unless it's absolutely necessary (like a couple missing lugnuts we didn't even notice when we first got the car; we were not charged for replacements). This guy is quick, friendly, and efficient. My simple oil change cost less than $40 and the car was ready to be picked up within a few hours! It might be a bit hard to find this place since it's a bit hidden away, but it's definitely worth it! It's also great that they're so close to the skytrain station since you can simply just go somewhere along the Canada line while they fix up your car. Thought I had found a diamond in the rough, but will need to keep looking. I like Jackson, but I don't think I can trust the service of "his guys" anymore. Had a few car services done here and things seemed good, until I noticed an oil leak. Looked under the car and it was coming from the drain plug of the oil pan. Tightened the plug then called and emailed, and Jackson reassured that a new drain plug gasket is installed with each service, despite the continued leak with 2000k remaining until next service. "It could be the oil pan not being flush any more" Jackson tried to reassure. But already being suspicious, I ended draining the oil and, low and behold, no gasket installed. While I was under the car, I also suspect that my oil filter wasn't changed. Despite Jackson suggesting I make an appointment to have it looked at and "fixed", trust is already lost and I'm not going to set myself up to be disappointed again. read more

Still a goodish place to have your car repaired however it has become extremely busy now and is difficult to book an appointment in a timely manner. There is pressure on mechanics to move faster and work later which must at some point result in mistakes or poorer work. Pricing has also moved higher for the same work. I have now moved to H Tech Motor on Minoru Blvd for my work but feel Minit-Tune is still a OK to good option; just not great anymore. read more

I have been going to Jackson for my oil change, maintenance and other odds and ends for three years now. I have never once felt that Jackson tried to sell me any additional services or overcharge me for any services. His prices are extremely reasonable and the service prompt. The mechanics at the Richmond Minit-Tune did a fantastic job installing new brake pads on my car. The owner, Jackson Ma, was very honest and told me what needed to be fixed after he had inspected the car. Typically, I get my car fixed at the VW dealership where I bought my car, and they usually replace parts instead of trying to fix them. In the past, they've told me that it was impossible to "turn" brake rotors on VWs. Jackson, on the other hand, told me that they would try to turn them, and if it didn't work out, they would replace them with new ones. I was a bit worried that it would turn into a costly repair using new parts, but when I returned to pick up my car, I was told that they turned the rotors! This easily saved me about $300 in parts! Service: I came in to get an inspection on a used car that I was buying and he cut the crap and told me everything I should be worried about and what to expect, all while doing it surprisingly efficiently. Minit-Tube is freaking awesome! I originally get to Canadian Tire to get them fixed but after seeing a $1,200 bill I went to shop around. Jackson was great and did everything plus more for cheaper. He was great to talk to, and you get the sense instantly that he has your best interests in mind. He fixed a bunch of small stuff for free and even replaced my damaged windshield wipers without asking for free. This place is getting all my business moving forward including oil changes. I used to go to Mr Lube because it is so convenient and usually cheaper. Jackson says he take 1 hour to do an oil change so you need to be willing to wait or wander. Thanks Yelp for introducing me to Minit-Tune! I am looking to buy a second hand van and needed it to get mechanically inspected. Reasons why this place is great: 1. Jackson was very accommodating with the schedule as the seller kept changing his availability. 2. Got there early and Jackson is very easy to talk to! We discussed the van I'm looking at, the reason why a van, what year and things to look out for. After the inspection, he explained each section that was good and parts that needed to be fixed and estimated costs. And he wished me luck with negotiations with the van! Did I buy the van? I wanted to - but the seller balked that his van needed fixing and has not gotten back to me.... so my van buying journey continues... *sigh* But - I strongly believe that if you are going to get a second hand car - please get it mechanically inspected by an independent garage! I had to fix my squeaking brakes so I searched on Yelp for some suggestions. Then I found Minit-Tune Richmond! The best decision I've made. Jackson and his team was amazing! Initially when I called for an appointment, I asked for a check-up for the brakes, and then fix the brakes if necessary. When I dropped off the car, there was a miscommunication. He thought I only wanted a check-up. However, that was clarified quickly and he even got his team to stay through lunch to finish the fix on my Matrix. WOW! On top of all that, he added a free oil change and replaced a missing nut on my tire also free of charge. I've never seen such customer appreciation from any auto centres before. So Im from Seattle and was visiting my girlfriend who lives in Van and we found a car on Craigslist we were interested in. I had no appointment so I took the used car in at 8:30 AM. Our 2009 Honda Odyssey van unfortunately sprang an oil leak which irreparably damaged the alternator. The Honda Dealership quoted me $1150 to replace the alternator plus $450 to replace the engine valve cover gasket plus they would need to identify the root cause of the oil leak, likely the solenoid valves which would have been another $600+. I knew I was being taken to the cleaners and saw the great reviews Minit-Tune Richmond had. Jackson and his team showed me exactly where the oil leak was as coming from. Got a last minute oil change for my 2011 veracruz. It was done within I hour and at a good price of $53. Before some people take me to task that their advertised price is $37, I like to make a comparison. Hyundai dealership in the Automall charged $90 and Mister Lube on Marpole charged $80. He's the most honest mechanic I've ever worked with and the work itself is impeccable. Great place. We dropped in to get brakes done on a weekday morning, for my BF's Escape. Jackson was one of those super friendly, happy people who make all the difference. He told us he'd take a look and call us to confirm what needed to be done, within half an hour. Following that, it was a couple more hours to wait for the work to be completed. When I went to drop off my BF so he could pay and get his Escape, Jackson was very concerned that he not have to walk far to get it (my BF uses a cane). Jackson sent an employee to get the truck and bring it right up to the office door for K. As a bonus, the final tally was less than we'd anticipated. Car repair shops can make you feel like they're not very people-oriented but nothing could be farther from the truth here. Got my out-of-province inspection done last week, for about a quarter of what the dealer was going to charge for it. While I did have to replace my windshield, which had a 12"+ crack below sightline, that was all. The dealer came up with all kinds of items that he thought might need replacing on a four-year-old vehicle. This was before he even took a proper look at it, so it's not saying much for his confidence in the vehicles he represents, if he believes that there might be all kinds of issues after just 4 years.
