The windows they sell are good quality windows. The installers are not great. As I am doing new siding, I am finding the window installation not sealed. The sheathing under one of the windows was wet, and ants had gotten into the insulation. So in addition to siding, repairs and extermination is required. I have asked for service, replacement on the window wrap. That request was 6 weeks ago and the only communication was 'send a picture' which I did and they said they got it. Why can't they install a drip cap correctly and make requested repairs? read more

I paid 5500.00 for a single window in the house and when problems were encountered I was left without any communication while emails, phone calls and even a BBB complaint went unanswered. I'm not sure how they get an A + BBB rating when they get contacted with a complaint and even do not respond to the BBB. So now I have a window that has wood freezing and turning black when temperatures drop below zero. The blackness is the first step towards rotting away, and `it comes from an inadequately insulated window frame. I know it is not from moisture in the house as I have monitored it and the wood gets so cold it freezes. Since early Spring I have attempted to get someone out to repair it, and one time someone even promised to correct it after a house visit, but then communications were lost again. It's not just that the 5500.00 window will eventually need to be replaced again, it's the fact that the company simply doesn't care about customer service or honor any type of warranty work. The window is a Lindsey window and they only called one time as well then never heard back. Terrible backing of what they sell and install, and apparently terrible quality of the product. A window like this should last 20 or more years and this one is bad at five. I eventually gave up communications and wrote the BBB, and today I get an email that BBB letter to Minnesota Exteriors was never answered. Again, no response! I would not recomend them to anyone for any type of work just because they don't care after the sale is over. read more

Part 1: The installers were nice, but there were many problems with their product, pre-installation information and post-installation care, and the salesman's patronising and dismissive response to my wife when she called and complained. Let's start with the product - and there are several concerns: To start, a couple of windows have mismatched sides - the lines do not match up. It is NOT an optical illusion. The measurements of each side are different (see photos). Next, one of the windows has a piece of insulation that is already coming out. Next, and this may be better placed in the "post-installation" complaints, is the fact that there a plastic film and smudges on several of the windows, including those that require ladders on the outside to reach, clean, and scrape. On asking, we were told they do not clean the windows, and a supervisor added "we are not Merry Maids" (regarding cleaning the windows and cleaning the black smudges left on our walls and extensive dust left on our belongings. sales person is friendly: but once they receive the 1st payment to start work-it's a different story. We bought $14k worth of windows- awesome windows - but terrible installer. We have been getting draftty winds since the day they were installed a year earlier. Poor communication, damage to shrubbery, prolonged start dates, didn't start on the stated date, etc. I had Minnesota Exteriors replace the shingles on my home 10/18/23 because of previous hail damage. My down payment of almost 70% of the job cost cleared on 08/30/23. It took 7 weeks before work was started. I requested to view more options of available singles rather than the limited selection brought to my home. I was suggested to drive 60 miles to their warehouse to see the full assortment of availability. I was told I would have to wait for the material to get in because of delays. I contacted the office on 09/29/23 and was informed material had been in a week prior. I received a call from Scott Marcks (sales rep/adjuster) on 010/06/23 stating material was still delayed thus putting my job start date farther out. I told him I contacted the office and that the material was in and had been sitting in their office/warehouse for the prior week. Scott stated he was unaware the material was in and available. I was told the job would be started/completed 10/16/23. I took the day off from work so I could be home but no one showed up other than to put the license on the front door. I contacted the office and they stated someone should have contacted/informed me of the delay. The crew did show up and completed the next day 10/17/23. I was not available to be home that day. From my ring camera, I could see ladders were set up, material was being brought up in a location near landscaping/shrubbery. I sent Scott a pic/video of this and asked them to please be cautious to not damage shrubbery or gutters. He replied that they would let the crew know. The trees ended up being damaged. I informed Scott of this issue/sent him pictures and it was addressed by a text stating he "hopes they will be ok". I requested to speak with someone about the issues. I was contacted by Dan Hobbs, Chief Revenue Officer at Minnesota Exteriors. I explained to him the issues I had and he repeatedly told me that there is nothing he can do about it. I asked for an invoice of charges/work done/materials used. He told me that their accounting system is "archaic" and a breakdown of that information wasn't available. I sent the final payment enclosed in their business address stamped envelope so I could receive a receipt showing full payment along with invoice/job numbers to keep on record in case of future warranty claims. I would have paid electronically but I did not trust their online payment system after being told by Dan Hobbs their Chief Revenue Officer that their accounting system is "archaic". Weeks later I still received invoices with added late charges. I contacted the office and was informed that they hadn't received my payment and that they would look for it. The check was processed within a week and still had to get in contact 30 days later to again request a receipt for final payment. read more

I had new siding installed on my house and all of the crews who handle the different parts of the project did such a fantastic job. The work is impeccable. I look like I have a new house! I didn't end up replacing my windows with Minnesota exteriors because they wouldn't provide me an estimate. I was interested in replacing a couple broken windows on my house and I was blown off. I followed up with the rep that came out to my house for four weeks and then gave up. Apparently they are only interested in large orders. read more

Woman called Becky called to set up an appointment to come and estimate the cost of about 12 replacement windows. I left work early specifically to meet with her and she never showed. 30 minutes after the original time, I called the phone number, got her voice mail. Left her a message saying it was 30 minutes past the scheduled time and wanted to confirm she was on her way. Never heard from her. No attempt to contact me... radio silence all the way. If an estimator can't keep their commitments or even bother to follow up (sure, things happen, emergencies come up), I'd not want to do business with a company and get the same lousy service. Stay away - unprofessional first and only and last impression. Take your business elsewhere. read more

We recently purchased a home that has original windows (the house was built in the early 90's) and they are deteriorating and showing signs of rot. We will have to replace all of the windows in the home. We are planning to spread this project over the course of 3 years. MEI did the first round of window replacements for us this summer. Everything went very smoothly. They have a big showroom and that was very nice because it allowed us to see all of the different window options side by side. We decided to go with Lindsay/Pinnacle windows and also one Weather shield window. We probably would have done all Lindsay windows, but Weathershield had a finish that was a better match for the trim finishes in our basement. We decided to go with Lindsay mostly because of the lifetime transferable warranty, quality, and also the fact that they are a local company. We found MEI through Ryan at My 3 Quotes (his service is awesome to help find the lowest cost contractors for window replacement and he manages the project for you from beginning to end; www.getmy3quotes.com) and we were pleased with their responsiveness and professionalism. They also have a lifetime warranty on their labor! We plan to use them next year for "phase two" of replacing our additional windows. Windows are a (shockingly) huge expense and I did a LOT of research to find the best quality for our money and i feel that we got a great value from MEI. read more

Here is my experience and you can decide for yourself: Salesperson - He came out to our house and was very friendly, but he told us the cost would be substantially less than $1,000 per window. He was wrong and the end cost ended up being $975 each. This is what he does for a living, he should know the cost. He most likely lied about the price would be my guess. Window installers - Gratefully I happened to catch them making a mistake with the window trim, they almost put in wood, when we ordered white trim. They also had to redo the insulation on all of the windows after the inspector went over their work. Direct quote from the inspector: "Your windows are good, it's your installers that are the problem. . .If we didn't have them correct the issue, you would have to replace your windows in one year." Painters - The painters they contract with did a horrible job. I am not a professional painter and I would have done a far superior job. They missed huge patches of area and spilled paint on our walls and floor trim. They even came out a 2nd time and the paint job still looked terrible and they missed the large spots again. Customer service - The woman is who is takes the customer service calls is completely unfriendly. After determining that they made a mistake on their end, she was still unfriendly, not remotely apologetic and tried getting us to pay before the job was done! They were also very slow about getting out to our house to make things right, and we even had to call them multiple times to get things done. My opinion - Do not go here! I recently had 6 windows and one sliding door replaced by MEI. I had my mind set on using Hayfield prior to contacting them due to the quality and references from others. I had done my homework and knew what I wanted. My biggest concern was having a stucco home with brick mold around the windows. The measurements had to be perfect which they were. From both inside and out, there is no signs that these are new windows except for the excellent look and quality. The installers were on time and efficient. I had everything moved out of the way for them and they were very careful of the carpets and personal belongings. When done, they vacuumed everything and except for putting my furniture back, it was as though they hadn't been there. I have many more windows to replace over the next few years and I will be going back to them without hesitation. read more

We recently had our roof replaced by MEI. I am very happy with how quickly the job was done and with how well they cleaned up once the project was completed. There were a couple of items damaged during tear off of the old roof but the repairs were taken care of timely and without question. I would hire MEI again. read more

We replaced all our windows with Pinnacle Lindsay replacement windows through Minnesota Exteriors. This was a large investment to do all the windows but it came out much better compared to other companies and installers out there. The two installers arrived on-time each day and completed the work quickly and professionally. They were VERY experienced and cleaned up after themselves as well. I'd highly recommend this company to anyone. If you are looking at some of those large companies out there selling their own windows, take a look at Minnesota Exteriors. They have a large selection of windows of better quality and at a lower price. You'll get an unbiased opinion, not sold on a single brand of windows. For us we went with the Pinnacle Lindsay Windows which are made here in Minnesota. I would highly recommend Minnesota Exteriors for your replacement windows - they know their stuff! read more

The crew that was hired to do my roof took six days, damaged my siding on several parts of the house, and left without telling anyone about it. We discovered the damage days later. Also, after almost 2 months of trying to get this resolved, (I just called again Tuesday and left a voicemail with "Ryan"), the damage is still there. I can't seem to get ahold of a live person who can help me and our voicemails never get returned. My wife and I both work in customer service, and we are very patient and understanding people as a result. This situation goes beyond reasonability. This company is the most unorganized, unprofessional and non-communicative group I have ever dealt with. Do yourself a huge favor and do not give these people your money. My wife and I contracted with MEI last summer to repair siding on our home and install gutters. As soon as we signed the contract, it was like they disappeared off the face of the earth and wouldn't return our calls. About 2 months later, they showed up and completed the siding work. This part of the work was done well and to our satisfaction. The gutters however were done poorly. We have several down spouts that are bolted and several that are not (the un-bolted ones fall off every time it rains). Also, there are two others down spouts that are angled directly at our house so it actually channels water towards our house and foundation, instead of away from it. We have called them at least 6 times to have them correct these mistakes, but they will not return out calls. Bottom line: I would never use this company again, and I would never recommend anyone use MEI either. read more

In my estimation great company to do business with. Salesperson was knowledgeable and laid out all options. Good communication, but could do better especially in area of on site personnel. Had both installation of siding and stone work done quickly and efficiently, but more attention to detail like set up of ladders to protect plants and cleanup or walk through would have been nicer, but I'm sure each crew is different. Overall a very nice job! The house looks 100 times better and I would go back to them for more work as needed. Very competitive rates. read more

Called and set up an appointment for an estimate on replacing 3 doors and 2 storm doors. The day of the appointment no one showed up at the appointed time. After waiting 45 minutes I called and got the run around, transferred to scheduling as the scheduler was on her way back to the desk but no one answered. Left a voice mail, no one called back. Once I called back again was told they'd get to the bottom of it. Got a call from the estimator and he wanted to mail us some brochures rather than show up, which would have been nice to know when I set the appointment up......thanks for wasting my day off from work. No thanks, I'll find someone who actually cares about customer service. read more

During the summer of 2012, Minnesota Exteriors provided and installed new vinyl windows for all windows in our home with replacement interior custom-stained wood trim, exterior aluminum soffit , facia and gutters and also replaced some of the existing siding with accent shakes. The various teams that worked on the different aspects of the project were hard workers, friendly and were skilled at their jobs. MEI sales and office personnel communicated throughout the entire project via phone and email, answered all questions, responded to requests timely and worked to keep an organized schedule. Any issues that would arise were followed through on and corrected. We are very pleased with the final outcome of the entire project. read more

This whole experience has been unbelievable in a not good way. We started this project back in January 2018 by ordering our windows. It took till May to get them (totally understand that part) but there was NO communication from them to us on the progress of what was going on. We had to reach out to them to find out anything on our project. Then when they came and installed the windows, the installers did great! But one of the windows was ordered to open the wrong direction. Then instead of just fixing the problem, they tried to see if we could "live with it". The answer was no. They finally reordered the window and when it came back in, it was STILL made wrong. So they had to order it for the 3rd time. We FINALLY got the correct window installed after MONTHS and MONTHS of waiting. Then they kept sending us a bill when they shouldn't have as we had signed up for their credit line. And then today, January 1 of 2019, we woke up to a cracked window. Not happy at all. This experience is so below exceptional. I can't believe how all of this has turned out. Windows are expensive, the experience that we received for the amount of money we have spent is below subpar. Just know what you are getting into if you choose them to work with. read more

MEI is a DISASTER!!!! My husband and I spent several hundred dollars and hired a designer to redesign the outside of our home. MEI's sales team is uneducated regarding materials, and does not communicate to their crews doing the work. We changed our first salesmen right away,as he did not get questions answered in a timely fashion, nor did he understand his product line. We even attempted to bring our designer in for a 2 hour meeting with him and he still didn't get it!! We asked for another more senior salesperson, and he was better; however the communication from sales, to production, to installation fell to pieces. One of our windows was mismeasured by 10 inches!!! Off by an inch I understand, but by 10 inches!!! Flashing for our exterior stone was first not installed!! And then when it was it was in the WRONG location. The irony is that our designer gave pictures and measurements of what the house was suppose to look like to the sales team and production manager, who by the way NEVER stopped by the home until there was problems. I was told our job mishaps needed to be handled after their "month end new construction projects were handled first." A wrong window was ordered, and THEY USED OLD WOOD TRIM PIECES TO FINISH OUT THE NEW WINDOW. They have now ordered a "custom" piece that will fit it correctly (after I made 12 phone calls). Steve (siding manager) who handles the siding at MEI is out of touch and disrespectful to his customers he is interested in quantity vs. quality. Steve directed me to speak with the "owner" Dan. When I told Steve that I was going to call Dan, Steve told me Dan wouldn't help me anyway. For the first time Steve was right!! Dan was MUCH worse. He never returned one of my 15 phone calls!! I literally had to go to MEI and stand in front of him to speak with me. His comment to me was he wasn't involved. HOW DOES AN OWNER IN A FAMILY BUSINESS NOT GET INVOLVED WHEN A PROJECT IS BEING MISMANAGED? The other subcontractors (not related to MEI) on this project have been wonderful, and have witnessed the lack of attention to detail and disrespect towards us as customers on MEI's part -they are in disbelief!! STAY AWAY!!!!!!!! OR PLAN TO STAND IN YOUR DRIVEWAY AND ACT AS THE GENERAL CONTRACTOR!! read more

Minnesota Exteriors did a excellent job with the installation. However, I'm extremely disappointed with Marvin Windows. There are a number of issues with the screens (everyone of them looks like there are fine line scratches in them). The Marvin Patio door has a small hole in the interior frame. Marvin said this was not field replaceable. Someone from AM painting was supposed to fix it and bill it back to MN exteriors. This has not happened yet. The screen for the patio door was wrong. MN exteriors reordered it. When it came in it didn't look right...you can see daylight on both sides of the screen when it is closed. I'm not satisfied with that. Marvin sent the wrong interior for the half-moon window in the kitchen...MN exteriors reordered it. It's been nothing but delay after delay. Per my contract, I was only allowed to withhold 5% of the amount due. You can bet that when I decide to do the rest of the house, I will demand a 20% withholding. I only think this is fair. read more
