I have never given such a bad review on Yelp before now. I am an avid auction-goer and love a good local auction house. However, my first (and last) experience at Minor Auctions was terrible. The very small, Sunday afternoon auction had a few consigners as well as some leftover estate items from previous sales. I was interested in purchasing a bed, so I let her know so it could be auctioned earlier on in the sale. She was very nice and agreed to do this. However, when it came time to bid, the auctioneer started the bid herself. She knew I was interested and started it higher so that I would have to outbid HER, the auctioneer on an item. She did this same thing many other times. As a rule, I do not trust auctioneers who start bids themselves to upbid items. It is unethical, in my book.
Fast forward, I paid more than I should have had to for the bed. I was told the rails were with the head and foot boards behind the table near it before the auction. Well, when I went to load the bed, it became clear that the rails did not go with the bed. Since I am used to being able to ask nicely for items to be resold if they were presented differently than they actually are, I nicely let her know that they did not match. Her response? Over the speaker system, "Too bad! You should have done your due diligence." The least she could have done if they answer to resell was no is show some courtesy and professionalism instead of embarrassing me over the loud speaker.
