We easily booked on line a couple months in advance of our trip to Stonehenge, Bath and a Secret Place. I had a few questions, which were answered quickly through email. Instructions and itinerary were provided after we bought we tickets. Additional and helpful information was sent a few day prior to our trip. Noelh, our tour guide, was knowledgable, interesting and fun from the moment he picked us up in London. He provided information beyond the tour stops. He was engaging and had a good understanding of the geology of Stonehenge as well as the historical background. He made well time stops for breaks. We spent about two hours at Stonehenge, two hours at Bath and an hour at the Secret Place. The Secret Place was worth the extra and I highly recommend. Noelh offered a brief and interesting walking tour at each site and left us time to explore on our own. We were allowed to bring snacks on the bus but we didn't need them because we stopped plenty at places for food and drink. Noelh provided water. Bring water and rain gear. There were UBC ports for phone charging on the bus. The bus was very comfortable. Noelh was sensitive to a woman that was having mobility issues and arranged for her to skip part of the walking tour. I enjoyed Stonehenge and the Secret Place immensely, I was glad I saw Bath, but it was too crowded during our visit. Others on the tour really loved Bath. I highly recommend The English Bus tours.

Thames Clipper runs along the river from the London Eye to Greenwich, with stops in between at…read morevarious piers. An "open secret", it's way more comfortable than the Tube and only slightly more expensive than a Zone 1 to Zone 2 ticket. Comfy seats with a great view, they also have an onboard coffee bar and wi-fi signal throughout. It's great on a decent day, even if it's cold. But I wouldn't want to do this in the rain. Still, it's got to be less sweaty than the Central line! This is not a guided tour boat - it's a commuter line. So don't expect announcements of the various sights. But they're still there - the Tate, London Bridge, Millennium Dome, all of it. The staff is very professional and very experienced. Expect to be prodded for your ticket a couple of times during the journey. You can not buy a ticket on board. I was very pleased with the journey and I would absolutely do it again. If you're hosting visitors to London, hitting the usual sights, you might want to show off the city and give this a try.

I watched the fireworks every year from different viewpoints along the Thames but obviously here is the best spot. The area is now controlled by ticketing, at £10 a ticket to avoid overcrowding. The cruise did make about three stops on the way down there, which was a little annoying. Because we would go a short distance, dock, take on a few more passengers, go down river, dock again, etc. but once we got going it was very nice. They also do a running commentary about buildings along the waterfront, which was interesting and helpful. Also appreciated some hints on what to see and do in Greenwich, which was not on our radar screen. But really glad we went there... The observatory was cool, and lots of nice restaurants and pubs. Definitely would recommend this again. Only downside was at some of the passengers had poor manners... Woman in front of us changed her young child clothing, which I really did not need to see.

The cruise allowed different close up angles that are unattainable from land. The most notable landmark is the legendary London Eye, but also the main three landmark bridges: London Bridge, Tower Bridge and the Hungerford Bridge. The London Bridge is set just past the Hungerford Bridge and was much smaller than I thought and did not live up to it's expectation. For those who yearn for incredible pictures then this cruise is for you. It really doesnt matter which boat you take as long as you are on the Thames River. Expect the dark murky water indicitive of rivers.

Midway between Greenwich and London, the cruise makes one stop at the Millennium Pier for additional passengers. The first part of our cruise was enjoyable but the second part was somewhat less enjoyable due to a family of five (mom, dad and 3 rather unruly kids) who sat in front of us. The 3 kids was not well behaved and the parents did little to get them to behave. The boat was crowded at this point and moving to another seat was not an option. The views of the city from the water were great and well worth the price of the ticket. But, the narration did not add much value to the tour. And we could have done without the kids.

When I saw this tour, I thought of how fun it sounded to march along beside the guards. And it did…read morenot disappoint. Our tour guide, Alex, helped make the tour fun and very educational. It was great to listen to his commentary and also to march along beside them as they made their way to Buckingham Palace. We were able to see them from a few different spots and then we hung out at Buckingham Palace to take photos for a while before heading down to where the guards return after they're done. We would not have known about their return trip if it weren't for the information we got from Alex. It really was a great experience!

The notion that I would be getting shown around by, or transported by an actual duck were soon put to rest when I saw that we would be getting shown around in an odd looking little yellow bus thing. Imagine my surprise when after driving around for a short while the driver decided to drive straight into the Thames River. Luckily, the odd little yellow bus thing actually turns into a boat, of sorts. The reason this tour is so popular, I'd imagine, is because of exactly that; it's a road vehicle that can turn into a boat. That novelty alone would compel almost anyone to shell out £19. If you're a tourist; then why not. If you're going to do the bus tours, why not get on a weird yellow thing that also turns into a boat. But if you're a local - then think twice. Because it wasn't long into this tour that I realised I had just done what I promised myself I would never do; get an atypical tourist ride around London. The novelty of being on the water wears off in about nine seconds. Especially when you have a really annoying know-it-all tour guide. And as the dude hogging the microphone with his really weird moustache tells you "and this is Westminster..." you can't help but feel you would have been better off at home. It's not that there is anything fundamentally wrong with this tour, or my disgust that historic World War 2 boats have been turned into yellow tourist fodder - but simply, it just isn't really all that good or worthy of your money. Which brings me to my final point - which is certainly interesting. It turns out that these little yellow boat things are actually converted vehicles from the 1940's that were used during World War 2. In fact, it's entirely possible that this yellow thing that is showing you around London was a part of the D-Day invasions on Normandy. As someone who World War 2 is very important to; I would much rather see these in museums in their original state than painted yellow and showing tourists around; but that's just personal opinion.

Mike's lifelong history and obvious love of the canals, how they were used and why, were highly educational and entertaining. From the African Hunting Dogs on the shores of the Zoo to the notches in the bridges from ropes once used to pull the boats, Mike knew about it all and had great stories to go along with it. The rate he charges for a private two person tour is incredibly reasonable. If big crowds aren't your cup of tea I highly recommend this tour. I imagine larger tours would be fine too - but the personalized attention and spacious accommodation was perfect for us. Bravo Mike - on our short trip to London we only did one "tourist"-y thing and it was your trip, and we couldn't have made a better choice. It was beautiful, educational, fun, and extremely memorable.
