This was my first visit to this salon and it will be my last. Because I refused to wash my hands ("company policy?") I was given attitude by the nail tech for most of my treatment. She cut the cuticles on my big toes so short that they bled. The nail polish was not pulled down to the very end of the cuticle and there was a small space left there already. She was very aggressive with the pumice brush on the side of my foot and I had to ask her to stop scraping it so hard because it hurt. I wish I hadn't left any tip. read more

I was really disappointed in the service today. I've been to this location a couple of times and liked my nails and enjoyed being there. However today I walked out without even getting my nails done due to a complete lack of professionalism. I booked an appointment about a week ago for a new set of solar nails and yesterday received a call saying one of their staff abruptly quit and they wondered if I could come in 15 minutes early. I arrived a few minutes before my newly scheduled time and was asked to wait. I waited for about 10 minutes and was then approached by the girl at the front desk asking me what exactly I wanted done. I showed a picture that had four solid colour nails and one nail with a simple plaid pattern. I then told that they wouldn't have time to do that, despite me having booked an appointment for a new set with art, since they had a bridal party coming in after me. They said the best they could do would be to do a sparkle or all solid. My question is why my time and money is somehow less valuable than this bridal party coming in and why I was being asked to get a nail design I didn't want to accommodate them and their appointment time. I was really really disappointed considering I had already come in 15 minutes early so that I could have my appointment. Honestly, it left such a bad taste in my mouth and was so unprofessional that I left seeing as at this point I had still been waiting to be seen. I have been going to Mint for at least 7 months now for regular manicures and pedicures and I have been satisfied everytime. There were 2 ocassions where I they pushed/cleaned my cuticle was too much and it started bleeding. It wasn't too bad and person working on my nails sincerely apologized - so I'm totally fine with it. And to be honest my skin and nails are kind of fragile and thin so I can see it happening if you go too far with the cuticle push/clipping(sorry for the wrong nail jargon as my knowledge with nail stuff is quite limited). I give them 5 stars because I really enjoy going there to get my nails done. Mint's location is far from where I live ( the SE), but I will take time out of my day to drive there because their service is superb. In addition to their awesome service the atmosphere in mint is modern, clean, and friendly. So I definitely recommend Mint for a relaxing nail spa day! :) read more

We called the day before to make appointments and they were already pretty booked so safe to say you should make an apt at least a day in advance. I went in for a brand new set 3 weeks ago (time for a fill.. so not too long) and already I've had 3 nails snap off! Absolute WORST mani-pedi I have ever had. I booked myself and my boyfriend in at the Deerfoot location for a mani-pedi, as a nice treat before the holidays. Well. My manicure was messed up before I even left and when I got home and checked my pedicure it was even worse. I can't believe I paid someone for this. Wedding season has arrived!!!!! And yes I like most females am treating myself to a mani/pedi but not just any basic one but an upgrade to the shellac nails. First impressions the place is tidy and clean, modern compared to other nail salons and there's ample parking. Ada was my nail tech and let me say she was super friendly and turn my gorilla hands into lady hands. The tech paid close attention to detail and overall great paint job. She even shaped my nails a nice almond shape which I would have never picked for myself but it made my hands look oh so feminine. Got so many compliments and I haven't even gone to the wedding yet. Eep!!!! One thing I love getting done often is my nails. Yes, I am one of those "not so talented woman" when it comes to putting on nail polish. Wish I had the talent. So I have no problem going to a salon every week for a manicure. Yes, I like to change up my polish color! Call me high maintenance or just call me Type "A", but I like to change it up and often. So glad I checked out this new salon. It is gorgeous inside. Very modern and hip without the over the top trendy/hip prices. This is really the first time I've ever gotten my nails done and I was super excited about it! I saw their Instagram and the amazing nail art they could do, and the photos of the salon looked very clean and professional, and the nail techs had good reviews! However, at the NE location, I left with an uneven application of the powder and a clipped cuticle, which wasn't too bad but I had so much pain and tenderness in my fingernails from the constant rough filing. Today, I went to the NW location and it was a much more personable experience and the application was beautiful, but I also left here with a cut from the rough filing. I think I agree with most reviews in that it seems like you just want to be rushed out, which is unfortunate. Most concerning, not one of the nail techs acknowledged the cuts, no matter how small, and I'm pretty sure they noticed them as I could see them looking at them (I could be wrong though). Booked a pedi days prior for my daughter and I. My daughter's pedi started on time but for some reason I was left waiting for about an additional ten minutes (no apologies) before mine started. The water was ice cold (stupidly I thought this was a new feature to a pedicure). Once my aesthetician noticed, she commented (blamed?) someone else, and then made the water Luke warm. My pedicure ended before my daughters, even though it started long after. Hardly any care was taken to the nails in terms of trimming the sides etc. most time was spent getting old polish off. A pretty much non-existent massage unless you consider having a couple of cold rocks rubbed on your shins a massage. Hands down the weakest pedi I've ever had for the price. The only reason I'm giving this two stars is because of the puppy that was there and brought me joy by its presence. The salon was empty. No surprise unfortunately. read more

Really liked the girl that did my nails and my pedicure, then I had a nail break about a week later I called to try and get in to fix it as I was leaving town in two days...they were all full that day and the next day! I was asking for even anyone to fix it and she said there was no room at all. So disappointed thought I finally found a good salon. I was completely unimpressed with the pedicure. The service felt very rushed as it was completed in 30 min. I did not receive a foot rub with the service and my nails were not trimmed well. Some of them were left longer while others were cut short and uneven. After 2 weeks, the polish is looking tired and lacklustre. It is too bad as I had high hopes for this salon. I've been going to Mint just over a year now for lash extensions, and I'm hooked! Sam does an amazing job every time I go. Her attention to detail, efficiency and the fact that she takes pride in her work is what keeps me coming back. We'll chat for the duration of my appointment so the time just flies by! The salon is kept very clean and all the nail techs do not look disgruntled or overworked like many other salons I've been to. Everything is done on an online appointment system so there's no miscommunications and is quite seamless. It took me a bit of courage to go there because of some bad reviews, but I was totally hooked after my first time. I love the place! The most important thing for me -hygiene- was top notch! I see new packages opened just for me, properly prepped and disinfected. I can come with short broken nails, sometimes cracked all way though ( due to my job specks)and leave with beautiful manicure. I had a regular mani and pedi done here. I was impressed with the beautiful salon and service. It was very hygienic and I loved the hot stone leg massage! Lots of nail colours to choose from as well. My nail tech Annie was kind, conscientious, and did a great job. I was paying the same price at my old salon for a very ordinary experience and long wait due to minimal staffing. I went here because I wanted "Baby boom" nails done for a trip, and I heard Nyla could do them very well. This was my first time at this salon. When I got there, she was busy with another client, so a different technician sanded my nails for the fill. She ended up cutting me pretty bad with the sander, and it would not stop bleeding. Finally Nyla finished with her client and came to do my nails. She did the fill using gel. They looked very nice once she was finished, exactly how I had wanted them. However, Nyla moved on to her next appointment before she was finished with my nails. She had one of the girls who was still training finish my nails with the top coat and final filing. Their prices are higher than most places, but I thought it was worth a splurge before a trip, and they did end up discounting my nails for cutting me, so I'll give them that. I just went back to my usual technician at a different salon, for a 3 week fill, and learned that underneath the gel done at Mint.. was something terrible. As she was sanding off the gel, she could see multiple air bubbles. She informed me that this can cause SERIOUS FUNGUS on your nails. She could already see discoloration of my nails, and had to sand the gel completely off and part of my own nail, to keep any fungus from growing and any further discoloration. I was shocked and extremely mad. This could have been much more serious had I waited any longer to have my nails filled. I will not be going back to Mint EVER! It is not worth the risk, and I do not recommend it to anyone. This is not just a little thing, like being unhappy with the way your nails turn out, or having them cut you. This is the chance of getting FUNGUS due to rushed, careless work. read more

I got a shellac manicure at the deerfoot city location the other week. After less than a week I had several nails lifting and chipping. The chipping was weird too, coming off in layers like the coats didn't bond to each other properly. I've had shellac manicures before that lasted 2+ weeks with no issue so I am very disappointed I didn't even get a week from this one. I first came across Mint on Instagram, everything posted was absolutely beautiful. Further to discovering their Instagram page, I thought I would do a little more digging into their business, so I read some reviews and viewed their website. Everything seemed exceptional and exquisite, so obviously this struck my attention and I booked my appointment for a shellac mani/pedi right away! First thing first, amazing job with the look of the salon! But as far as the service quality goes... not the greatest. Here is a list of cons that I experienced in my visit: 1) HOT WATER foot bath! - Make sure you clarify you want luke warm water before you burn your feet. 2) Some stylists will rush your pedi, meaning; they will definitely not take the time to remove cuticle buildup, old nail polish, or even file your toe nails properly! (Mind you, my appointment was during the slowest times of operation, there was only 3 other customers there, while 7+ employees were to be seen) 3) Certain stylists will give you good feet scrub down, in my case; it wasn't even 10 seconds long! 4) Specify how long or short you want your nails to be... I should've made this clear to my stylists before she cut off all the length of my nails and then carried on to file them to only look bulky! 5) I also noticed that some of the stuff seemed to have been shared, I don't think the stylist realized this but a lot of the things that she was using on my hands and nails were definitely not sterilized to be used again on a different customer! Also: Heavy use of harsh removers, incorrect way of filing nails, overly cutting/trimming cuticles to the point that they've pretty much damaged the cuticle (recovering from a cuticle cut that left my cuticle bleeding, and if they're are doing this with tools that arent sterilized, youre pretty much asking for an infection!) ALL IN ALL, my experience was definitely subpar, I would either make sure you go to them and book a senior nail stylist that knows what she's doing or don't go here at all! Please also keep in mind the high prices of the salon! But definitely give Mint a try if you are looking for a larger selection of polish! For myself, I will probably not bother booking again. read more

I am from Edmonton and get my nails done regularly at an amazing salon there. I was recently given a gift card for Mint so decided to give it a try when I was visiting Calgary. It ended up being one of the most unpleasant experiences I have ever had getting my nails done. I have been getting my nails done every 3 weeks for over 10 years, so I know a thing or two about the process of getting gel nails. I've also learned a lot from the salon I go to in Edmonton, as they are a boutique salon with training from a lot of the big nail suppliers such as Bio Seaweed and Ugly Duckling. The girl who did my nails at Mint was SO rough. My skin and nail beds are incredibly sore. She rushed through my appointment so fast and was not listening to anything I was saying regarding the shape of my nails. When she applied the gel to build the nails, she got it all over my skin, and as a result when the gel cured, it got stuck to my skin. Not a huge deal, but not something that was necessary and should not happen. I felt completely rushed out of the salon. When I was waiting to pay, the front desk attendant did not even tell me my total, and instead just passed me a pin pad. I advised her that I had a gift card and gave her it. She processed it and did not even give me the option to tip (which frankly I was hesitant to do in the first place given the subpar customer service). I would not recommend going to this salon! Although the prices are fair, getting your nails done should always be a pampering treat and experience. You should not be uncomfortable and stressed about what is happening to your nails, and rushed out of your appointment. read more

Less than 24-Hours after I posted my first 2-star review, the manager called to offer to fix my nails free of charge. I find that kind of costumer service really rare and delightful to see. Thanks Mint! On my first visit to the Mint Lounge, I was thrilled! Finally I had found a wonderful, clean, nail salon with skilled technicians for an excellent value. My shellac (manicure and pedicure) lasted longer and looked better than any of the previous salons I've been to. Then, I came back expecting the same level of service. I was disappointed. I booked an appointment ahead of time. But was not brought back into the salon until 30 minutes after my appointment start time. I was tossed the shellac colour wheel and the nail tech began my pedicure. The nail tech (I think she was the manager) ordered a girl over to begin my manicure as well. So here I am, sitting in a pedicure chair, twisted into a pretzel as both technicians roughly worked away at my hands and feet. It was uncomfortable and rushed. After about 10 minutes the pedicure was "done." She demanded what colour I wanted. I politely told her I hadn't had a chance to look at the colour wheel yet because my hands were being manicured. She was rude, huffy and told me I needed to pick immediately. I did. At this point the manicurist was "finished" as well besides polish. She was sent away immediately to begin working on someone else. When the shellac was finished on my toes, a THIRD technician was assigned to apply the French shellac polish on my hands. It was very impersonal and I felt like I was a bother to the salon. The whole experience lasted less than 30 minutes for a supposedly full shellac manicure and pedicure. If the results had been satisfactory, I probably could have tolerated the rushed and rude attitude of the manager. Unfortunately after only 2 days both my manicure and pedicure had chipped to the point that I removed them myself. What a waste of nearly $100. Not to mention I never received my massage on my hands or feet or any lotion. My advice? If you are able to go to the salon when it's not busy, they do a phenomenal job. However, they will try to fit in as many appointments as possible and do not seem to care about quality if it is busy. My hunt for a nail salon continues. read more

The few times that she hasn't done my nails, I was not super satisfied with the quality as the shape was super uneven and the polish colour was also uneven at the edges. Really beautiful, modern, and clean inside. However... Like any other nail salon.. You are IN and you are OUT! I never understand the "spa" part in the pedicures at these places. To me, slapping on latex gloves, loading a huge blob of perfumed lotion on to the legs and quickly rubbing the legs (not massaging) until the cream absorbs is no where near "spa-like". I was 9 months pregnant with swollen legs and asked if she could massage a bit more and I would even pay, well... that didn't fly. There is a massive TV consuming the wall in front of you, blaring the food channel. The TV totally takes away from the cool, ultra modern, chic vibe of the salon. Also, I hate when they rush you to your seat, barely speak to you but somehow find time to talk throughout your whole treatment to the other staff in their own language. You definitely feel out of place and uncomfortable. To top it all off, you get a nice lukewarm cold plastic dish to soak your desperate, Calgary cracked and dried nails. Not very spa-like either. Not sure what the water that turns chilly in one minute does to your cuticles that you are paying BIG BUCKS to have removed. My girl cut one of my cuticles too close to my skin and I bled. She tried to conceal it and never told me and it ended up stinging and was so sore for days! Not very classy. I think the owner did a good job aesthetically, however, like the next nail bar/salon down the street, it is no different in service and comfort. I have yet to find a nail place that really gives a good, deep massage, even if it's a 2 minute one, is quiet (no TV blaring), separates the nail filers behind a wall (the fake nail stations drive me nuts, and has staff that speak to YOU and make you feel comfortable and welcome. read more

I booked pedicures for my girlfriend and myself pretty much based on reviews from other customers and I don't know what they are seeing that we did not, but the experience was horrible. My entire pedicure was less than 20 minutes and I swear it seemed my feet were worse than when I started. It was by far, the worst pedicure I have ever experienced. My girlfriends was a little better, but still fell way short of expectations. Shame on them for charging what they did for what they provided. I called to book an appointment and asked about pricing, which was $55 for a new set of gel nails. I booked for 3:15 but when I realized I couldn't get out of a meeting in time, I called at around 2:30 to reschdule for 3:30. The girl that picked up the phone at first didn't even understand me at first so passed it off to another girl, I told her my situation and she said it was alright. By 3:15, I get a phone call from the receptionist asking where I was. I told her I called earlier and spoke to someone else to reschedule to 3:30 because I couldn't make it on time. She was being sort of rude over the phone but I was confused because the last person I spoke with said it was alright. At first, the times couldn't work out because there was another appointment for 4:30 with the tech we asked for but eventually it was resolved and we were able to be squeezed in. When we got there, we were seated accordingly and as my tech was doing my nails, we spoke back and forth about solar nails. She told me that they were strong and so on, I asked about the price and difference in strength with UV and she said they are the same price but solar is better. So I agreed to getting solar nails and she said it'd be $55 for a new set, although I already had acrylics on. As she was filing my nails down, she said she wanted to try to keep the nail that was already underneath and I said okay if that works better. But within some moments, she started clipping off all my nails but never said anything. After taking off the acrylics, I decided to get stilletto style nails. An hour goes by and I was left with beautiful nails. I was quite ecstatic about my nails when we were done, I kept thinking to myself, I can't wait to tell everyone about this new gem I found! As I get to the till, my bill was $70. I was so confused, I asked the nail tech why wasn't it $55? She said there was an extra charge for taking off the old nails and since I wanted my nails a little longer that was another extra charge. What kind of horse crap is that? No one informed me about the extra charge for taking off the older nails, no one said longer nails were even more on top of the price that they already were! What aggravates me even more is that my friend had basically the same length as me, mine was just really pointy and hers were rounded, she even got two accent nails with rhinestones on them for $55!!! I am beyond upset with how I was treated, to be deceived by a nail salon that has a great reputation?! Was it because I didn't come in at the time I was originally scheduled for? I thought I was getting along with the nail tech, we even spoke Vietnamese back and forth! On top of this all, my friend told me about the file they made for her and said the receptionist apologized to her about the miscommunication over the phone. Wait, what? I'm the one that made the phone calls, I was never made a file... Did I do something truly wrong? Why do I feel like I'm being discriminated or something? After personally working in customer service myself for a few years, I don't see how my experience with this salon was acceptable at all. To represent a company, you should always deliver the best service you can no matter how tough the situation gets. You should never hide or lie about important fees or charges that the customer may not know about. If I informed about all those extra charges, I wouldn't be writing this today. I'm so bummed about how things turned out because I am actually very satisfied with my nails. I've been getting my nails done for years and I always send my family, friends, clients of my own and even strangers to the salon I favourite the most. Thought it was a nice salon but had a shellac pedicure -done and bf had mani pedi done before our trip and had to come back because there was a big glob on my toenail and the color started turning black. Had to wait 30 minutes despite making an appointment for them to fix the mistake. Was treated rudely and my time was not respected at all. Bfs nails were not even trimmed evenly or filed , was cut down to the skin pretty much bleeding, the deluxe pedicure was not even fully done. So disappointed. Will not be returning. read more

I have been there a few times to get my nails done (solar nails) and I love it. They are clean and friendly--the former is exceptionally important to me as I am very nervous about salons and cleanliness. Each time I have been there I have had a different nail tech and they've all been great. I've normally had problems with my nails staying on (re: oily nail beds) but I've had no problems each time I have had them filled. Would recommend! read more

Went in for a manicure and pedicure with my mother. The woman who did her feet and hands was great. Although for myself, my pedicure was pretty average, however I was very displeased with the manicure. Going in my nails we're quite long (about 2-3cm of white at the top), which is how I like them. However, he cut and filed them very short (showing 1cm of skin with no white part left whatsoever). This was not only painful but also quite unattractive, in my opinion. Terrible shellac manicure and pedicure. Colour was chipping after one week. I've had many shellac mani pedis that have lasted 3+ weeks and I am very disappointed with this one. Won't ever be going back. read more
