Sometimes it gets busy. It's no big deal. I use a self check out all the time. They have great random selection of things you need. The prices are great. I've never had an issue except when they ask for my receipt I just reply. No, thank you. I always have parking. The carts are usually in decent condition. I appreciate the hard work from a few of the employees. I remember their names Scott and the hunting section for the ladies in the self check out and there's a nice lady who is always cleaning up after everyone she always has a smile on her face. I never see her name tag because she is actually working. Probably my one and only complaint is I wish some of the lanes were wider. Customer service is not an easy business. People do work hard at this location.

That said, I'm not a regular Giant Eagle shopper since I have access to an Aldi; Giant Eagle is OK if you need to make a one-stop shopping trip (especially when it's decently sized like this one), but unless you pay close attention to their sales and deals, you really won't be saving money on that trip. My recommendation is to shop here in a pinch and/or if you're taking advantage of a bargain deal; but your wallet will thank you if you do your regular shopping elsewhere.

By the time I left the grocery store, gripping a bottle of red in each hand like a wino, I felt like I had gained a friend in Wheeling. My Kroger visit happened because I tried to visit a wine store in downtown Wheeling that didn't actually exist. Undeterred, I stopped into Kroger to see what was what in the wine section. They were actually having a huge sale, with many good bottles under $10, so I grabbed a Malbec and a Cabernet. The sale was so good that I wanted to go back and grab a few more bottles, but I resisted. I was visiting from out of town, and there's only so much room in the car for wine. This Kroger is a little hidden from the road, and you need to make some turns to get into the parking lot. But once you get to it, it's a nice little Kroger with nice people.

It has historically been home to the Holiday Market (which was moved into the theater area this year because of the construction). I hope the market does move back because Market Square was definitely the better space for it. There is plenty of parking nearby in garages, surface lots and street parking. The one downside is that it is really tough to drive through, especially with the way the renovated it. Drivers seem to be stopping to take in the new look or don't understand directional signage so there is often traffic backups.
