Daughter goes to school in Macomb and she needed some work done on her car. Minus Muffler broke another part while fixing the part that we had problems with. Then they expected me to pay for the part they broke. Owner became very belligerent on the phone and even called my daughter a "Tramp" and we had to get the police involved to resolve the bill. STAY AWAY!!! Update: It also appears that they broke a piece of the molding in the wheel well. URRRRGGGG! Another Update: Looks like they did a bunch of damage to the rotor and some other parts under the car. HAD HAMMER MARKS ALL OVER THE ROTOR! Had to replace it. About $800 in damage! I have been going to Minus for more years than I like to admit. But, the reason I keep going back is the quality of mechanical service and the friendly staff. I just had my oil changed while I waited. (I did have an appointment.) Terry is a professional who knows what needs to be done and recommends schedule for future service. It is always fun chatting with Frank if he is around. Prices are comparable to most places, but the service over big dealerships is so much nicer. No fancy waiting rooms, but you don't need one when you get this quality. Highly recommend you visit Minus Muffler & Service in Macomb, IL for any mechanical, muffler, or other service. I have been to this shop on my way back from visiting a friend in college. I just recently graduated college and when my car died, I had AAA get me a tow to Minus Muffler to figure out the problem once we knew it was no longer a simple dead battery. Upon getting to Minus, I was welcomed into their lobby while my car was immediately put in line to enter the garage so I could get back on my way. I even had a pleasant time chatting with the staff here and there while I waited. I could never picture anyone I met there yelling at a customer let a lone using obscene language to a young girl. This is being said even after I watched the associate behind the desk deal with an incredibly rude, ignorant, and demanding customer. The associate attempted to smile and calmly explain every part of his dispute and, believe me, there were many upon many parts to his dispute. Before they even began work on my car, a technician came in to explain to me each problem, recommendations to fix it, and the price on each. He even went as far to break down the price of parts and service so I knew how each amount was added. There was even a side list he printed out of things that weren't vital to getting my car back on the road but that were acting up and could cause later problems. I paid the desk clerk and was able to be back on the road within about two hours! I had thought I was going to have to get a train and leave my car behind so I was incredibly grateful to not have to deal with that hassle. Do not hesitate to go to these guys! These are the type of guys you can trust. No business stays around for almost 40 years if they are doing wrong. I recently had trouble with my muffler. I first went to a place that in town who estimated to fix it at $500+. I went for a second opinion at Minus and they told me they would have it fixed for a little over $100. Frank kept me involved in the process by taking me back in the shop and showing me exactly what they would fix. I appreciated this, because no other shop offers this. I cannot speak for the other reviews, but my experience was great. I was in and out and back on the road. I was treated with the absolute most respect and it shows that they know the value of a dollar. They aren't there to steal your money. They will get you back on the road for as cheap as they can. Horrible customer service. When calling on the telephone the employees are extremely rude and unprofessional with no regards in assisting customers with getting their vehicles. Employees are always too "busy" to meet the paying customers to get their cars out. I would not recommend this service to anyone. read more

Summary: Please beware! This old man is a sweet talker, but he will definitely try to way overcharge you in the end. Details: I just moved three weeks ago when this happened. My car didn't start one morning, so I called my insurance and they called his shop to tow me. I decided to get the car checked at his shop since he seemed a nice old guy. he told me that he wouldn't be able to take a look at it immediately, so he generously offered to give me a ride to school, which I gladly accepted. We agreed that before he does anything to the car, he would call me and give me an estimate. When he didn't by 4 pm, I called the shop, and told them I'm on my way. When I got there, he told me that he tightened a screw and charged the battery for 1 hour. He then asked for $60!! I told him that a brand new battery would cost me as much, and that Autozone, across the street, would charge a battery for free. If he told me that this is what he was going to do, I would have asked him not to do anything, and I would have taken it to them in the first place. As soon as as I said that, the old man started yelling and cursing. I was in a complete shock, but I was a little too better raised and actually too tired than to engage in an argument. The rage and impoliteness this man displayed were beyond imagination. I finally left him $30 (for the ride and his services, which I still think is way on his side), and just left that evil place in total disbelief. This guy is messed-up. He thinks that life is not just to him, and that everybody is trying to screw him up. He believes that he can charge not for his services, but for what he thinks he deserves. I'm glad it wasn't a big deal after all. It could have been much worse, but I think it is time to stop these crooks from taking advantage of others, and this is the purpose of this review. Conclusion: Don't deal with this guy, nor with his shop. Take your business to honest, hard working people. read more

Best place in Macomb for repairs. They will look at your problem and tell you what it is going to cost. I have had several vehicles repaired there and they hold to their estimate. I have never had to take a vehicle back with the same problem. They provide courteous towing service 24 hours a day. The towing price is reasonable. This is a locally owned business. They are helpful and friendly. The repair prices are average for this area but the service and quality of repairs are the best available. read more
